Title: Strength training for Martial Arts
Post by: wattow on June 06, 2015, 09:45:22 AM
I usually start my students on a basic program like Starting Strength or Bill Starr's 5×5, depending on various factors. I will then move them into a Reg Park 5x5 after a couple of months. Of course every case isn't the same, so the guidelines are general. The underlying goal with the strength training is to really build that leg and punxhing power.

If I have learned anything about martial arts training, it is that you should be doing karate chops into a vat filled with gravel while it is above an open flame.

If you're going to do Aikido there's no need for training. You will just need to be able to grip someones wrist and 3-4 intitated guys will do falls and flips around you.
