-
I'm yet to see anyone from the you don't need high protein camp looking massive.

Competed at 193 at 5'8'. Stay around 198-200 now. You really don't need it. I remember the first two years i trained i gained the most muscle and never counted protein. Once i tried to start eating a lot i got fat.

If you overload your system with food you will be sluggish.
There is no way the body can digest so much protein. It's all a lie to sell supplements.

Isnt whey (the fastest) absorbed at roughly 8grams of protein an hour? Pretty sure dave palumbo said that on one of his shows .

That's great. Eating 400 grams a day isn't. If you don't feel sluggish eating powders it would probably be they arn't good food and not really being used much.
Eating more protein doesn't work. A lot of people say on here you can eat a lot to get to a level and then eat less to maintain. I don't agree but you don't see it happening. Everyone thinks you need more than you do.

Props for competing, but I wouldn't class that as massive. Aren't those stats the same as Sev's?
-
so instead of protein you eat carbs and or fats.
enjoy your meal.

I'm a lot bigger than Sev but he gets very lean good on him.
It's no pro level really but it's a lot bigger than most and i hated being even 215+ i didn't feel as good.

Do you believe you could hit 250 without being fat on low protein?
-
.....but it did not effect my workout negatively today. I had an epic workout.

Then by bodybuilding logic, i.e., brofessional scientificationalization izing, you must weigh in the neighborhood of 37.5 pounds.
-
Do you believe you could hit 250 without being fat on low protein?
I think that I generally am in the 200-250g/day range for protein. A lot of this has to do with the fact that I basically eat low-carb most of the time. A "high-carb" day for me is about 200g. A normal day around 100g and a low-carb day around 25g. So, the calories have to come from somewhere and a lot of that is protein.
-
I tend to eat between 80-120 grams a day and sit quite comfortably at 220lbs year round.

Sorry, I meant 250lbs whilst on a low protein intake.
I don't buy into the 2g per lbs of bodyweight protein rule. That does seem rather high. But on the flip side I know that I wouldn't be able maintain my size if I dropped to 75g of protein a day.
-

The difference between me being 200 now and 220 with a similar bodyfat would only be drugs. If i ate more because i was hungrier during those times of gaining weight then so be it. I just don't think you need to force feed.
In the first two years i trained i went from 154 to 231 and got fat but dieted down to 185 and was lean. I didn't count protein those two years.
-
i went to this steak house and realized there were a lot of protein in the steak and i cant have that so i ordered a salad instead
just say no to protein guys ! SAY NO
dont do it

Another great and accurate thread on nutrition I see going on today....

Protein grams per day are WAY overrated......we owe that to the big money maker, mr Joe Weider.

How much do you weigh?
How much protein do you usually consume?

I eat 75-100 a day and its plenty.people need to stop listening to the people who say 2 g per lb cause its completely unneccesaary.
Haha yes 2 g/lb lol :D
Yes a 150-lb squirt definitely needs 300 g of protein (~ 3 pounds of chicken breast) per day to "grow" ::)
-
I average like 90-130 grams a day and look exacy the same as when i did 200g.
-
You`d be amazed how little food you need to grow/maintain size.
Eat big to be big only applies to the genetically elite.
For the rest of us it`s Eat big to get fat.
-
yes people need no food, no supplements, no drugs, no sleep, no training, no nothing.
it's a wonderful time to be a bodybuilder!!!

Would you guys then say even the RDA of 0.36g/lb is set too high?
Why would the "nutrition authorities" set it so high for the general populace (just for health maintenance)?
And does not a very hard training athlete need at least a little extra to build muscle?
Now as for myself, 75 grams would be a good day for me, eat less many times.
I don't think it's optimal though - and I'm on steroids which allow you to make mistakes.
But if your body wants to grow (not at genetic limit yet) you will do best on a highish protein (and energy) diet.
All the real big dudes I know eat pretty big and have good appetites. If you don't have it in you to grow big then it's different.
You don't need 400 grams but let's not get carried away and say even less than the RDA is optimal.
-
yes happy meal
The guy in your avatar is 160 pounds.

How many grams did you eat during your last contest diet?

for somebody who doesnt train (most getbiggers) and who is a midget (again most getbiggers) and eats like a girl (most...) and doesnt enjoy food (...) 75 grams just might be enough.

It was just one day (I usually eat around 200 grams of protein a day)
But I was expecting to feel weak in the gym after eating only 75 grams of protein the day prior. But I actually felt very good.

You thought you would shrivel up from low protein for just one day?
LOL!!!

1 gram per kilo of lean body weight.......waaaaaaaaaa y enough, less could be enough as well.

Yeah but you are 6'8.
5'11"

I don't get how people can come to the conclusion you need a specific amount of protein per day. Like, how can anyone say '.6 grams/lb is not enough, you need at least 1.25!'
Like, did you run some long term experiment on yourself and diligently record the results? ???
I think like 99% of the time the answer is 'no', and the assertion is untested. This applies to pretty much anything in bbing... Amazing amount of 'certainty' in this 'sport'.
-

The body does not appreciate excessive amounts of protein and is very efficient at making the most of what you supply it with.
The protein/supplement industry are just doing similar to what you'll find on the back of a bottle of shampoo regarding rinsing and repeating, they're ensuring you'll use as much of it as possible, even if it's pointless past a certain point.
-

I did not think that I was going to shrink after one day. But I did expect to feel weaker than normal.

You seem to have great hurry to reveal your ignorance, because only the most stupid ones mix grams and pounds. In the real life it is 2g per 1 kilo of lean bodyweight. I know this is hard to you to understand, but maybe you have someone who can explain to you what is the difference between kilo and pound. Secondly, you confirm your retardness when you claim that training human doesn't need protein. Protein is what your body uses to make your muscles, so without it you are just a sack of lard and crap, which you probably are anyway. Believe or not, I know what your problem is: You have been training and eating a lot of protein, but you still look like a pile of shit. Don't blame the protein, because if exercise and protein doesn't make you grow, you are training like an asshole.
About 80% of gym rats share your problem, because they are too fucking dumb to learn how to do it right. Most of the people are training too much, meaning too many training sessions per week, too many sets per session, and too many reps per set. It is ridiculously little what you really need to do to gain muscle mass, IF YOU DO IT RIGHT ;D

I did think that I was going to shrink after one day. But I did expect to feel weaker than normal.
Are you for real? Are your workouts so consistent that you would confidently attribute a single weak session to your low protein intake? ???

I never went that low in protein. I was expecting some sort of negative impact.
I was wrong.
-
I've generally felt weaker and flatter when I tried lower protein diets. It may have been more mental but either way, I think it's better for someone who exercises regularly to consume a high protein diet.
Why would anyone want to consume a low protein diet anyway? Foods that are rich in protein taste great most of the time. :D

I didn't do it on purpose. I had a long day at work, and had a lot of running around to do. I only ate two meals during ~18 waking hours. That's not a usual occurrence.

625 grams a day and my biceps grow while ripping apart chicken breasts.

I easily eat a couple hundred grams without even thinking about it during a typical day's eating.
Just eating a half pound burger or large roast beef sandwich for lunch and another 8-12 oz of protein and some starches and veggies at dinner puts me well over 100 grams.
Add more protein at breakfast - several eggs, pint of milk, 1/4 pound of steak or other protein, toast or other starch, and that's usually at least another 50-60 grams easily.
And I usually have another meal in mid afternoon a couple of hours before the gym - typically a sandwich, burger, or leftovers from home.
It adds up.
-

For him that has ears; let him hear.
Mike Mentzer used to preach that you shouldn't need anymore than 80g protein a day and that the rest is useless...If that makes you feel any better...Imo that's some outdated bs tho 8)

I remember him saying that, lol! And to gain mass, you just needed a bit of extra cals in the form of say... An ice cream scoop.
As much as he was a genius in some ways, man did he lack when it came to nutrition questions.

how are you guys eating so low?? I couldnt eat under 200g of protein if I deliberately tried....all the best foods are high in protein, chicken, meats, eggs, bunch of slack jawed guys in here!!

I tend to agree with this...lol

What do the guys eat that only eat 300 calories from protein? I enjoy eating too much.

For real. Wake up have a normal breakfast. Then eat a pound of meat through out the day.
-
How many grams did you eat during your last contest diet?
Probably between 250-300 at times but usually took in around 200 as a rule.
I ate light though and shit the size of a hamster.........I think my body was utilizing the food in an efficient manner.

Yeah, but you see, nowhere close to the 75 grams mentioned as sufficient here. Not much food but heavy on
the protein, just like any other competing bb.
