Title: He looks healthy
Post by: exalta on June 19, 2015, 05:52:21 PM
"He looks healthy" - a common expression of surprise when people see retired pros.

Just saw a recent fb post by Jason and the top comment reads

Quote
Just met you a few minutes ago as you were coming into the Europa, "Nobody wears a Cutler tee shirt better than Cutler". Looking healthy Jay!!

Are there any other "sports" or vocations where this is the first way you evaluate someone, and the default assumption is they'll be an absolute mess struggling to walk/breathe and on dialysis 3x/week?

Or is is just the cult?

In Snooker and Tabletennis you often hear contenders calling eachother an absolute mess struggling to walk/breathe and on dialysis 4x/week.

I think because the sport is predicated upon the thought that working out makes you healthy, that hearing that is a compliment.

For any of these misfits to be alive 10 years after competing has to be considered a huge achievement.  Pro bodybuilding, epitome of longevity.

It's better to look smaller then bloated or dead.

Why is he wearing a shirt that says "athletics"?

Exactly.

"Cutler Pharmaceuticals" would be more appropriate.

But then, when was the fitness industry known for straight-shooting?

That's seven whole more letters... ink ain't cheap and every penny is needed for hair and arm gel.

I think it's because when competing they look unhealthy as a standard, and then you see them healthier and you comment.

I don't think people realize this ^ they just say it.
