Adonis Johnson (oh brother) never knew his famous father, world heavy weight champion Apollo Creed, who died before he was born. (oh brother)
Still, there’s no denying that boxing is in his blood, so Adonis heads to Philadelphia, the site of Apollo Creed’s legendary match with a tough upstart named Rocky Balboa.
Once in the City of Brotherly Love, Adonis tracks Rocky (Sylvester Stallone) down and asks him to be his trainer.
Despite his insistence that he is out of the fight game for good, Rocky sees in Adonis the strength and determination he had known in Apollo—the fierce rival who became his closest friend.
Agreeing to take him on, Rocky trains the young fighter, even as the former champ is battling an opponent more deadly than any he faced in the ring.
With Rocky in his corner, it isn’t long before Adonis gets his own shot at the title...but can he develop not only the drive but also the heart of a true fighter, in time to get into the ring? (oh brother)

I love Rocky movies. I'll watch this one.

mrs huxable @1:23. now that was a fine looking black woman back then.
have to wonder why sly didn't go with a young, italian american protege.
EDIT: mrs huxtable, even!
-
Great so it sounds like this will be the one where they kill Rocko :(
-
If you didn't grow up with Rocky you don't get Creed. Rocky is apart of my entire life. I'll be seeing it.
-
Lots of urban youth in this film.

Apollo used to Play for my Raiders before he became an actor

Cause the director is a Hebrew ;D

Sly and Arnie still in a race to see who can beat the most dead movie horses.

It's hard to mess up a boxing movie, they are an easy home run. And this one is directed by the guy who made Station Agent, which was a critical success (never saw it).
Preview looks very good but maybe not great.
-
OK, not "Station Agent" :-\
-
Looks decent, not ready to say good or great yet. I see Avon and Wallace from The Wire are in it, that's good, most of the alumni from that show were very good actors. I might be in the minority, but I hope the spectre of Rocky doesn't loom too hard in this, I've enjoyed the franchise, but it's very long in the tooth.
-
Looks shit. I can't relate to the main character for obvious reasons. Avoiding this one like the plague like I hope everyone else does.
-
Obviously made for new generation of movie goers (those under 35). Even when it comes on Netflix, I'll pass. ::)
-
^my response to every installment after Rocky 4
-
you ve seen the trailer, you ve seen the movie.
-
In Rocky II (1979) Apollo talks about "my kids" being teased at school about the first fight. So that would put Apollo's "son" at at least 40 years old.
-
I think he says or implies that Apollo died before he was born. So his wife was pregnant in part 4 which was what, 86?
-
This looks like absolute shit, cocky hebrew
The best thing about Rocky 4 was to see Ivan Drago learn Apollo a lesson in humility
-
TBH, all the Rocky films were pretty crappy if you think about it.
-
Carl Weather's brother, Curtis played for the Browns and had a gym in Cleveland that I trained at back from 89-91. Named, APOLLO FITNESS CENTER
-
Hold the fuck up!! Rocky is Mickey now!?! Mind fucking blown. :D

Is it prejudice to not want to be a boxing meathead?

Unforgettable would be a more appropriate word, since his mortality was hastened by Ivan Drago.
If he dies, he dies.

Damn. Forgot how good he looked. No homo.

Here's the thing. I think that this movie (CREED) might suck, but because it continues the long line of Rocky movies (to some extent), I will end up seeing it anyway.
If even for a few of the flashback moments where they cut back to Rocky & Apollo talking, racing, having sex or simply training in the mean, rundown boxing gyms of Philadelphia, I think it would be worth watching.
What would also be nice is if they have a great soundtrack to the movie. I find that Bill Conti's work in the early Rocky movies was downright genius.

In Rocky 6 there were no Apollo Creed flashbacks cos the actor wanted too much money.
Maybe no flashbacks in Creed either...

Killed by Ivan Drago, Predator, then killed by Happy Gilmore

Absolutely. Saw the original Rocky when it premiered in Philly. Will never forget it.

The problem with movies that Sly does where he brings in new talent to take over a franchise...is that the new talent sucks. Does anyone remember ANY of the "young crew" from Expendables III? Did any of them go on to do feature films? Same with this guy.

I couldn't even make it through the whole film. First one I enjoyed, second not so much. 3? Lasted about 30 mins.

Rocky movies may be a little corny but they have a lot of heart. That's lacking in most movies that are made these days.

this.
its no accident that these films (the first four) are so enduring..
-
got that right, the training sequences alone get the win

Yes, one and two are very good but it's the third that is the best of them all. and the fourth coming in on a close close second.

Same here. I have the collection on BETA, VHS, DVD and Bluray. Have seen them all I'd say 100's of time. Even have a laminated posted of Rocky 1 where he's on the steps of the Philadelphia museum with his arm raised high. By far Sly's best role ever. He was pretty good in Copland I have to say, which was very underrated.
-
WTF it's enough for the Rocky franchise... :-X

I agree about Copland..thought it was excellent..nice concept

,I like the fact there are certain franchises like Rocky where you see the character over their whole life, changing and growing etc it gives you the connection to the characters like you know them if you get what I mean. Age isn't a factor either, someone like rocky will always have something in the basement.

Copland grows on you, it's not a flashy film, but a very good one. Makes a nice pairing with Clockers, another underrated flick. Both have the same vibe.

Hmmm.. All these comments about Copland! I'm dl:in it now to see the fuss.

There aren't made actors that are completely identified with two characters for years on, like Sly with Rocky and Rambo....
I cannot think of another one right now. Maybe Conan and The Terminator for Arnold ? Not the same level.
-
first few seconds are pretty strange seems like he's trying to cough up a hairball.

Maybe a cat got his tounge..
I can't recall he had one single line in the trailer. Is he "simple"?
-
I'll buy the ticket.
-
They're probably having the black characters street it up, which is usually a mistake in mainstream movies. Here's the same guy a few years ago (in the blue jeans) -
.

The classic scene from Rocky III where they were hugging and jumping in the ocean, had such strong homosexual undertones....I found myself slightly aroused.
Oh...no homo.

Thanks. I find myself rubbing my crotch region, though I'm not gay?
I like Stallone beating that one trick pony for 4 decades. If people keep paying to see it, why not make it?

Reading about Carl Weathers holding a real life grudge towards Sly for not bringing Apollo Creed back to life in the series was like the icing on the cake for me.
Part of me says he probably did consider it for a few days though. A ridiculous plot like that would probably squeeze a few extra hundred thousand dollars from ticket sales.
