Title: Question About Dreams
Post by: The Ugly on July 01, 2015, 08:19:14 PM
Can anyone here throw a decent punch in a dream?

I have NEVER been able. It's always a super heavy, slo-mo "push" every single time, even when I forget I can't throw one beforehand. And every male I've ever asked says the same thing: can't punch.

Now, I don't buy all the psychobabble dream analysis crap, but there HAS to be something to this one.

Right?

It's not a dream, this is proof we all live in the Matrix.

It's  because you doubt your punching abilities.

Not really helpful, guy. Just want to know if others experience this.

Same here. Everytime I throw a punch in my dreams my fist slows down and I am unable to make contact. Weird, huh?

I think it's the same for most. I know exactly what you are talking about. It's the same with running. I have had dreams I am back playing ball and can't freaking move any faster than slo-mo...
I have no science to base this on but I always figured it was because you are lying down and when your brain gives the signal to punch or run or whatever - your arms and legs are restricted from that  motion. So even though it's a dream you subconscious mind recognizes the dilema..

Don't try to DO stuff in dreams.

This is important, if you can take a step backward and just let the dream unfold it can be really amazing.

Exactly. Wasn't gonna address it unless someone else brought it up. What the fuck is that? We can fly, but we can't punch or run.

Of course. But when some dreampunk starts talking his dreamshit, I gotta sort his ass out.

(Never do, though. The fucked up slo-mo punches just piss 'em off more.)

Hahaha yes. Or a weapon I'll be using will turn to rubber as I swing.

On the flip side I sometimes have dreams where I beat people to death.

It's all very odd.

dreams are not for punching, dreams are for wrestling with other men.

Dreams always have the same pattern:

You dream. Something really weird occurs in the dream. You realise at this point "I must be dreaming". You wake up at this very moment. You go back to sleep and attempt to continue your dream.

In my dreams I'm always able to fight off multiple attacks.   I never kill anyone but in my dreams I never lose the fight.   Most of the time I'm trying to get away from the fight but when I do fight I'm pretty lethal without killing anyone.

I know the feeling very, very well :-\  I can't punch for shit in a dream.  In a similar vein, anytime I try to run, it's like I've got a freight train stapled to my ass.  I also struggle to lift even little kiddie weights.  It's as if I have the strength to complete the motion ten times over, but I just can't generate any speed whatsoever.  You nailed it with "slo-mo."

I dunno.  It certainly doesn't/needn't mean anything specific -- say, like, you have this subconscious fear of being a pussy, or that you can't hit someone effectively.  I chalk most of this kind of stuff up to our minds just unwinding, dealing with anxiety and stress in a way that we don't have to while we're conscious.

Hope that makes sense.

This is so strange but its the same exact thing in my dreams. it always turns into this slow motion type push when I do make contact. I always thought it was just me and very odd as to why I always dream it that way

The other common one is the breaking of teeth, or them falling out. I get some messed up variations of those.

The last time I had it it was a little disturbing. I'll try my best to do it justice. I do have trippy dreams.

It started with a cat that had little spikes that started to come out of its belly whenever I touched it. Then the fucker attached itself to the bottom of my foot. In went the spikes.
After I'd got it off I noticed it had left holes in my foot,  at the pit of each hole was a little white worm. That bit was disgusting enough.

Then I started spitting the little worms out of my mouth, looked in a mirror and they were embedded in my teeth. So I started pulling and spitting those out. Then I found a loose flap of something in my mouth, ripped that out and it was an egg sack. Found one more and pulled that out and as it came out it ripped off the crowns of all my molers on one side. The next one pulled out all my front bottom teeth along with my gum, exposing my jaw bone.

At that point I was freaking out and woke up shortly after.

I often dream about having to evacuate the planet.  Sometimes it's because of a natural disaster and sometimes it's not made clear why.

I had a dream where I couldn't type a phone number into my phone.  Super hot chick and I was all thumbs.  Just struggling like my fingers were noodles trying to type.  I had this strange dream the other day.  Taylor Swift approaches me and is trying to hit on me and her pickup line was "I have $50 million in the bank"  hahaha.  WTF.

I've had dreams where I'm at a casino playing slots and bam I hit jackpots worth hundreds of thousands or I've had dreams where Blake lively is just about to put her lucious buttered muffin in my face and right when I'm about to sample it I fucking wake up. 😔

No, this is perfect. My running problem is maybe unique. I actually get pushed backward, like a very narrow gale-strength force has focused itself directly at me. I always end up grabbing someone's hand to keep me from blowing back, in order to escape the killer, or devil, or stringy cube steak monster (yeah, horrible nightmare).

I don't doubt at all something subconscious is in play; just skeptical of "experts" who over-analyze and conclude each character, object, or event ALWAYS symbolizes something specific.

Great reply, thanks.

These "lucid dreamers," the ones that really get into controlling their dreams and such; they say there are a couple giveaways to let you know when you're asleep:

1) Look at your hands. Something weird always involved with the fingers or something. Too many, too few, or maybe they just move strangely when you wiggle them.

2) Check the time. Not sure what happens here, but clocks and watches supposedly act funny in dreams. Maybe dream time is just inconsistent, so might have to look twice.

They say the oddest of all is looking at a mirror. After you check your hands/clock and know you're dreaming, find a mirror. Tell me what happens, I'm interested.

I have an odd habit of sleeping with my forarms in the air. I sleep on my back - arms to the elbow on the bed but the rest of arms in air. More than once, mid sleep, my arm has fallen and cracked some random fitness chick in the face  :)
