Title: "The Gift" Phil Heath VS. "The Sultan of Symmetry" Flex Wheeler
Post by: Wiggs on July 07, 2015, 03:44:16 PM
At their best. IMO Flex's best was the 98 Arnold.  (Other's may argue 93 Arnold or 99 Olympia) Phil's best IMO was 2013.  He even said it himself.

Begin at 7:28

It's two different quality physiques. Flex looks like granite carved into a perfect shape.  His posing is miles ahead of Heath.  He's just better. Phil looks bloofy.  Call it 3d or whatever, Flex Wheeler is killing Phil here. Phil outweighs Flex here by about 15 lbs.  Not a problem for Flex who regularly beats people with his shape.  Flex weighed 232 for this show.  Phil weighed in the mid 240s in 2013.  Let's not forget that Flex who has no Sandows will always be better than Phil who has 4 Sandows. Flex is just better.

Got the ND thumb of approval. Not looking good for Phil.  Affeman's opinion does count. Paid agent of Phil's.

The problem with Flex is that his physique was half oil. It takes away from his greatness IMO.

Unfortunately for Flex; in bodybuilding, the only thing that really counts is winning the Olympia. That's the litmus test.

Sergio, Arnold, Haney, Yates, and Coleman all found a way to win it.

Wheeler's best chance was in 1997, and he pissed it all away with the ninja bullshit. That was his time. He blew it.

He had a great shot in 94 , he was the runner-up the previous year was outstanding. But the accident ruined that.

Even 93 ASC?

I don't really have a huge problem with it if it only looked "real". Once you can tell a bb
has shot oil it becomes ugly.

Even 93 ASC?

No, later on. Like 98 being quoted as his best, well there was so much oil use it's hard to say
it was his best shape IMO.

Whatever Phil Heath has shot in his arms for example it isn't obvious in the same way it was obvious in Flex.

The accident was his fault too. A night of debauchery & drunkeness. Speeding home at v-e-r-y excessive speeds, and causing a one car accident. He sabotaged himself yet again.

Everybody used it. Calves, delts, arms. It wasn't a big secret. Look at Darrem's calves, Dilletts delts, Victor's calves.

You can't compare these guys. Bodybuilding today is all about GH and Slin. Back then these guys were just starting to dabble in that stuff. Phil in all honesty wouldn't have a prayer against ANYONE who used the same drug protocol today. Hany Dillett Ray Levrone Wheeler and so on, all would be characters of their former selves.

Flex has a way more symmetrical build than Phil and I bet anyone on the street who doesn't follow bodybuilding at all would pick flex.  For me, flex is definitely a top physique of all time.

Heath will be remembered as a 5-time Olympian. Flex will be remembered for getting attacked by ninjas.

No comparison, Wheeler all day long... Yes, he did go overboard with SEO later, although everyone used it more or less, but in 1993 he looked phenomenal, and Heath abuses SEO just as much, look at his biceps, shoulders and calves...

I hate to participate in a "who was better than who thread" but Flex all the way...

Let's not forget Flex won the karate tournament at the ASC also, so he beats Phil on stage and in a real fight.
