Title: 175lbs dumbells
Post by: mesmorph78 on July 11, 2015, 05:29:42 AM
Changed gyms this week   Amazing gym I was like a kid in a candy store they have machines for every possible angle you want to hit your muscles from. Best gym I've trained in in London.

They had 175 lb dumbells hit a 2 reps flat dumbell press on my final set. Not bad.

I trained there years ago.

Jamo Nezar, JD Dowadu were all regulars. Its one of those gyms where you are guaranteed to make progress- its in the air. I remember the leg press with the green 50 kilo plates! Great days there and Sav is an absolute gent in fairness.

Yes I've been there a week now and I can see slight differences already... JD  is where I am. Remembers me from years ago, but yeah great gym.

I understand gyms like that. ..you walk in and you just sense intensity.  Rare finds today!

175lbs for two reps on your final set!!! Amazingly strong if you're not doing half or 3/4 reps. Hand someone your phone next time to film it and put it on getbig. I'd love to see that.

The top dumbbells at MW are far harder to lift than the 160s. The 160 has plates that shift jam into your hand and make it easier, but the 175/180s handles were a little big bigger in diameter and there was no give.  If you are repping out those then you're in the upper echelon of strong even when that gym was at its peak in the early 90s.

I don't know man the ones at muscle limit feel slightly heavier probably because they are bent and not balanced . I'm at muscle worked Enfield the heaviest ones their are 176 to be exact I just rounded them off to 175.  I don't think so it's just that I am consistent with working out never more than a week off in over a decade . Plus a lot of guys are scared of dumbells because they are harder and you can't get people to do the work for you eg yanking the bar off your chest.

Ah, I thought you meant Bethnal Green.

There will never be a gym like the heyday of the original again.  Gyms are too mainstream and social media / the WBFF have queered things up too much.

I've heard a lot about that branch ... It's a little out of the way for me though. I think the Enfield one is slightly posher, but it still has heavy dumbells.  I'll be there for a while.

Why use a 175lb dumbell when a 75 would make your chest just as big  ???

Sure seems like a lot less chance of injury with 75.

I remember the Dowe gym when it was Physique 2000.  I bet it hasn't changed.

I first walked down the MW steps (the original near the tube) when I was a teenager.  Amoury was 3 weeks out from the British and sat on a bike by the entrance looking like he wanted to stab me.  I walked round the corner and I saw all the heavy dumbbells and I thought I'd found heaven.

I was at dowes when andrulla was there- probably mid late 90's!

I was living in hampstead and used to get a bus 50 minutes to archway. I then moved to angel and was on the bones of my arse so used to walk to Sav's to train.

when I moved to SE London I got somewhere near to skyline- its funny but it mattered more to me than bus route to work/ tube etc

last time i was living in london i was at gymbox- holborn and the one at bank. some lovely equipment in there- loads of hammer strength- but tended to be full of bellends.

75's don't impress all the other nobodies in the gym.

Relax; as long as you eat 6 meals a day and don't overdo cardio (no more than 30 min 3mph 2% incline) you'll be fine.

i never do less than 25 reps when benching

there's 3 positive things with that

1. it gives a great pump
2. it is easier on the joins
3. i dont have to put weights on the bar

Try doing 2 seconds positive, and 2 seconds in the negative for each set.  Count "one, one-thousand, two one-thousand" as you lower, then same as you raise the weight".    Perform these slower reps on all your exercises for 8 weeks.    After 8 weeks return to your normal routine, and you will see a strength gain across the board on all your lifts.  This works amazingly well on compound exercises.

That isn't amazingly strong - it's just very strong.  I'm only saying this because I know I could do that too and I wouldn't want the naturals on this board thinking it wasn't possible.  What is amazing about meso is that he can do that and look incredibly in shape at the same time.

Sorry you have me mixed up with some one else.

I'm not an advocate of violence ... But I can handle myself
And I know enough to know that pressing a bar with whatever weight doesn't mean you can fight...
