The way the world is headed I am sickened by most modern things. Here is what I desire for myself:
-continue to go to the gym and post on getbig.
- limit internet (aside from getbig) and cut out TV. Well I pretty much have cut out TV so continue with that.
-move to a rural or semi rural house. Prefer a cabin, small farmhouse or chalet.
-grow many of my own vegetables. Cook nightly from scratch and cook over open flame using cast iron skillet and Dutch oven.
-limit buying of new technologies. Use old tools and technologies that are superior.
Do any getbiggers have similar aspirations?

I think you should add in baking lawn clippings in a 350 degree oven.

Maybe not as far back as you mentioned but like to go back to the days before smart phones and everyone having mobile phones and all this technology shit and where the Internet was 56k and only a few people had it and websites were very basic and porn wasn't so readily available that the excitement of acquiring a new porn vhs has been ruined. I don't like that every device from the tv to the fish tank can connect to the Internet. fondly remember the days before all this shit

I assume that there isn't a woman (or man) in your life, right?

My older brother doesn't watch much TV except for the SF Giants during baseball season. He is vegan (but not an asshat about it) and grows nearly all his own food. He has a workshop out back of his home and is relatively handy. Me? I hate TV. HATE it. I like some technology and despise others.
Cell phones and their owners sicken me. I refuse to walk around with my face in a phone. My personal cell is an old flip pone but my work one is an android and I refuse to use it for anything other than work.
My younger brother aspires to retire to a cabin or even a double-wide on a lot of property in Arizona. He and his wife have a nice home now but don't much care for a lot of what passes for "good" these days. They don't have cable or a SAT dish but instead an antenna. He has literally thousands of songs on his computer but still buys CDs and they both favor Country music and by that I mean real Country, not that "Hick-Hop" crap.

I don't mind all the technology, unfortunately, what came along with all the technology was shitty things like FB, Instragram, Twitter, Tumblr, etc. So, its not really technology perse that is shit. I think the internet is an extremely useful tool for a variety of things.
The internet turns to shit when every single person feels the need to advertise their life on social media. Shit started to go downhill with the advent of social media sites. Before that, it was just standard AOL and Yahoo chatrooms.
Trust me, after all this technology, 99.9% of getbiggers would not survive trying to live "old school." Getbiggers have difficulty making it to the gym, let alone doing anything that involves actual hard work (building, planting, etc.). :D :D

That's prob because your parents did the same, so it's just a conditioned habit. See it as a challenge to turn that noise off, and observe what happens inside you. Prob resistance in the beginning, followed by more inner rest and a better focus...

I don't have a TV since '94, so only when I visit someone who's watching, like women who love those crappy soaps.

Welcome to my world!

I am somewhat surprised to say that I am considering the purchase of a turntable. I only have a few records (somewhere here!) and while I cannot say that I enjoy vinyl as much as some I think I might like it on the rare occasion I am feeling somewhat Luddite-ish. Nah. I think turntables are cool but the hipster trend could turn me off one.
That and the price of records. I looked at the Crosleys and find them cool looking but inadequate for my needs as well as (I hate to admit it) my ego, LOL! I would prefer an automatic player but not a changer as I have never thought having to get up to turn off the player was fun.
My Onkyo turntable was accidentally crushed many years ago. It was totally automatic. Dammit. ;D

Love to tend to (y)our garden someday.

Every day I go to work I pass a beach where a bloke has been living in a van for almost a year.
I often wonder what my life would be like if I did the same.

I had a physics teacher once who said: "everything is bad in excess". I think he was right. Drinking too much water can kill you, being too social can make you feel stressed.
I do not believe in an old school lifestyle without TV or internet, but I believe everything should be enjoyed in moderation. If anyone is interested in bad consequences of excess hedonism, then I would recommend this book: Martin Amis - Money

It's like you've read my mind. I recently got rid of social media, massive amounts of cable channels, and am looking for a farm as a weekend getaway. Maybe the collective consciousness is sick of this life, and there will be a move back to simpler things.
-
Watching Netflix on my projector (100' display) whilst lying in bed with my broad = life.
Fuck you and your farm.

Keeping it bodybuilding related I'm thinking about training old fashion. I have a pretty elaborate home gym. It's almost 1400 sq foot. Told my wife I was thinking about working out in a commercial gym for a change and she got me 3 month membership to this monster size gym. It's been fun but the thrill is leaving except for the hot women wearing tiny shorts and those panty hose leggings.
What I think I may do is get a set of power blocks or Iron master dumbbells and a bench. Why am I doing 3 different bicep exercises right now and 6 for legs? I just might go old school and train the whole body in one shot or at the most upper body and lower body. Just one or two exercises a body part. Just simple basic training. I watch my son's Brazilian jui jitsu instructor. He's from Brazil and he just runs and does body weight stuff like push ups, dips, pull ups and other stuff. The guy is in real shape and not bodybuilding cosmetic shape. As bodybuilders we make it to complicated. I really don't think we have advanced that much since the 50's regarding training except for the drugs that are used.

It would be such a hoot if the changes in bodybuilders' appearance was all due to drugs and not exercise related at all. A lot of folks do seem to over-train. I'm doing pretty basic stuff myself presently, but I doing a three day split instead of exercising each muscle group three times a week.
Personally, I like going to the gym. When training at the gym it's all business with little interruption. At home, everything seems to get in the way, like the phone rings or someone comes to the door, etc. The gym where I go is not one of those "fluff" gyms were folks seem more interested in checking each other out than working out.
