Women screaming in the background? What is this?

Also, Hamdullah, Darrem Charles, Milos, and what looks to be Orville Burke in the background.

Wheeler doesn't look good here, too smooth and puffy, if it's 1996 he sure improved a lot the following years... Coleman muscularity and quality was already there...

96, he was smooth and puffy. He also said that he found out that shaving his head contributed to certain things as well (?). I don't know how true that is, but there seems to be certain factors, ie drugs, diet, and discipline that contributed to the smooth and puffy look.

Its always interesting when you look back at these old pics/vids and realize that most of these contests do not exist anymore.

Can anyone guesstimate the avg number of IFBB contests held yearly in the 80's and 90's compared to today?

The bald head contributed to his smooth look? Never thought about that, but even bald, in 1997-1998-1999 he looked much better, although with SEO too evident... At the end of the day, Wheeler looked his very best when he had hair, just like Dillett, early 90s...

Yes, he said in an interview that the agitation of shaving his head caused him to retain water as well.
Being that the skin is an organ, I wondered if that was true or not.

Ronnie ftw! He really started coming to form in 96/97.

Flex had a lame excuse for everything....but this one, if true, is freaking hilarious.

In 1996 Flex did like 5-6 shows. This was his 4th show that year. He won the Ironman and got 2nd at the ASC, stayed on his diet until the May shows then did the O. That is impressive

Yup I was there. Ronnie was starting to come into his own. Think he beat Flex the week before in Canada,. I have pics from that show if I can ever find them I will post them some day. Flex was walking around in a warm up suit and didn't look like anything special. Ronnie was walking around in a cut off sweat shirt and warm up pants and looked huge.

Please get off this board for a while. According to your statistics you sleep only about 4-5 hours a day, while the rest of the time you are posting here.

How do you support yourself? Or rather, who is supporting you?

Sorry bud - but after seeing your pics its really hard to not get weirded out when you critique physiques.  It's cool that you don't train but I just don't understand how you are a fan of BB if you don't lift. This is not a "spectator sport" like other sports.  Maybe I am missing something but I don't get it

I remember this interview, or at least an interview where he said something similar. From what I recall, he said that had noticed that shaving his body made him look puffy for a day or two, so he had adjusted how closely to show time he shaved. I think he also said something about not wet-shaving anymore. I don't think it was about shaving his head specifically and that affecting the skin on other parts of his body.

could be that. But, I remember something about him shaving his head. Because, competitively, he didn't start that until 96. He did shave his head in 94...there were pics in Hardtimes in a 94 Ironman of Mike Matarazzo pretending to lick Flex's bald head.

He wanted to do every show that year to quote 'Teach everyone a lesson'. Problem was at the Mr.O Dorian was Dorian, Shawn Ray hit his best condition ever, Nasser was ridiculous and then you have Levrone. Even Ronnie at the O that year was fucking insane if you watch the video someone at the beginning is going 'Look at Ronnie'

Mattarazzo & Flex used to live in the same Duplex back in 95/96. Flex had one side, Mike had the other side.

Flex said that one night a schmoe was spying in his windows. Flex went outside to kick the guy's ass.... only to find that Mattarazzo got outside first and was annahilating the schmoe

The contest was held at the Konover Hotel in Miami Beach. It was in the ballroom of the hotel. There were maybe 400 people at the most in the audience. It was the last year for the show. I spoke to Wayne Demillia on the phone to get tickets it was almost cancelled because of shitty ticket sales.

ronnie's calves have never had oil.

they sucked and always sucked.

adding oil imparts a drastic change that we never saw.

Cost him his kidneys

The kidneys probably went bad from the water retention issues he had when he shaved.

Nonsense , Ronnie's calves fluctuated over his career
