Is there any other sport in the world where people seem so shocked to see an 'athlete' out of their prime once they finish competing?
People seem so shocked that guys aren't still killing themselves with a boatload of drugs once they move on from pro BB.

It's just a Catch 22. Bbing is not like regular sports where you can understand that once retired an athlete won't want to go through a daily 6 hours of tennis, football or whatever. At some level, Bbing is related to Health and Fitness, to the idea of training without necessarily having competition on your mind. It's something that you should love to do 'til you kick. Juicers don't like to admit how much their physique relies on ergogenics so they're always "shocked" as the physical gap is hard to swallow. Naturals will just go with the "whole drug" speech.

Lots of NFL guys shrink quite a bit once they're out. Nobody really says anything, but everybody knows.
