My Boston is 13 months old. When will he calm the fuck down?!? >:(
-
My first one never really totally calmed down. The one I have now is totally chill as long as she gets 20 minutes or so of retrieving a ball a day.
They are very smart dogs.

damn it. Little dude is too hyper. He wants to play all fucking day.
Maybe i should get him a girlfriend?
-
do you hug your dog?
-
Exercise it & feed it a good meal. Same as people.
The backfire, of course, is that the dog will get fitter which means more exercise, etc. I used to take my kelpie to a big park and have him chase me around on a bicycle. [But his little paws kept slipping off the pedals.] Naturally, this assumes the dog is ok in open spaces off a leash. Won't attack other dogs or try to eat/pee on people's babies, comes when called, doesn't range too far, etc.
I don't think it's bad for them but I've been told that dogs aren't built for distance running. On the other hand, every sprinting frisbee fetcher ever has fucked up his ACL with too quick direction changes. What I'm sure of is that dogs aren't designed to wait around all day in a back yard with nothing going on. If he has to stay home while you go to work then find a good way to wear that fucker out morning & night for a couple weeks as an experiment.

Great dogs, had never heard of them but a friend of mine has one: smart, funny, short hair, clean, lots of energy and friendly to everyone! She's very fond of her dog, and rightly so, great companion and practical size, you can take them anywhere

Should have named your Boston "Loyd".
-
If he's not a good companion, get rid of him. That's my advice. Otherwise it will be a long 14 years :-\

It's the charm they have of being so funny looking!!! I love their funny ears, how they move, how they look like they have wind being blown in their faces with their "half opened eyes" They even walk funny! Kinda crooked but in a straight line.
Would just love to have one and a pug. So cute together!!!

Ive owned two. Like most terriers you have to physically exhaust them. If its a boy, neuter him. That will help though they will never be a totally calm dog. They are bred to be very active.
But like most dogs they will be extra hyper the first two or three years
-
Never.
My aunt had one named Spanky when I was young. Scared me. Whenever we went to see her or she came over that guy would come jumping out of the car immediately and tried to chase me down all the time. Got me once on the back of my leg.

no they were bred as fighting dog and then bred down.

Mine tries to find a sun spot and also sleeps most of the day. She rarely has gas due to very clear nasal passages but also has endless cardio.
My last one was a snorter, grunter and farter!

Yup.
-
Ok so whatever my mistake. MOST terriers were from hunting purposes... either way they were bred for toughness and stamina and need to be exercised daily for at least an hour.
-
hopefully picking up a Presa in a month, not a fan at all of small terrier dogs.
but with a hyper/working breed, from a young age you have to stamp authority and let them know you're boss.
if not the fuckers just run wild.
but working dog breeds need extra exercise unless they were a guard breed.

neuter him? fuck that, OP should have done a bit research before getting an overly hyperactive dog in the first place.
i hate owners who neuter their dogs because they can't handle them, don't get them in the first place and get a more relaxed breed instead!

If you don't plan to breed him then yeah, snip his shit. Besides his demeanor studies show it will also add to his lifespan.

Look man, just be patient he's still a puppy and with good training he will be a loyal and awesome friend. The first two years are a lot of work.

So cute!!!
But I'd adopt one if it were over 2-3 years. I wouldn't fare well with the hyperness, but they really are cute/funny looking dogs!
