After 18 years online, the Manhattan offices of rentboy.com were raided today by Homeland Security. Six charged with violations of the Travel Act and face up to 5 years in jail and $250k fines. The website draws a half a million hits daily and has made $10 million in profit since 2010. Many competition bodybuilders advertised on rentboy.
Now that rentboy.com is shut down, there are only a few dozen websites for such activity, including ones in countries where prostitution is not illegal, for example, rentmen.com. And I'm sure additional websites will be created by the end of the week.

Back when I was a cute young thing, I was offered to escort many times. Fortunately, I was never in need to make the rent, so I always declined. (One guy persistently offered me $500...back in 1983!) Nor have I ever paid for sex, other than dinner and a movie. But I know many people who needed to escort to pay the rent at one time or another. It should not be illegal.

I agree, stop regulating morality. Prohibition doesn't work and never has.

FYI, customers (johns) don't have accounts, don't need to log in. Escorts log in to create/update their profiles, which include their phone numbers. Customers contact escorts directly. So there won't be any embarrassing data dump of users of the site. rentboy makes their $2 million a year for the monthly fee escorts pay to have a profile

Big government playing mommy and daddy.

Why did the government wait 18 years?
-
Why did the government wait 18 years?
1) the Department of Homeland Security had to be created
2) they had to catch all the terrorists and win the war on terror.
This was not the FBI. This was not the NYPD. This was the Department of Homeland Security

Speaking as someone who was out and was the target of lots of hate on usenet's misc.fitness.weights back in the late 80s, the only way we have made this much progress is by being visible.

The only time you disagree with a government shut down.

Good on the government for putting an end to this disgusting faggotory, that this filth has been allowed to persist for so long is the only outrage

in terms of number, more heterosexuals perform anal sex than do homosexuals.

government shutdown? like what the Republicans are trying to do over obamacare, debt ceiling, Planned Parenthood?

nothing changed, but the lives of these six people. plenty of other escort websites out there, both gay and straight, many outside the reach of the US Justice Department.

You post history would suggest that you identify quite closely with the statist/progressive left. I'm guessing that's what Coach is trying to illustrate. You'll also have to admit that your side is quite controlling to the point that it doesn't feel like a stretch for our side to equate progressive opinion with authoritarianism.
It's probably just not as fun when it's your particular ox being gored.
-
The only time you disagree with a government shut down.
Huh?
Conservatives are leading the charge to shutdown, this time over PP, last time it was Ted Cruz over the budget.
What do u mean here?
-

You are mis-equating his use of the word "shutdown". It's not a gov't shutdown, which I am 100% in favor of. It's the nanny-state shutdown of things they find "offensive" and that's a feature of the progressive left.

strange. it is usually the conservative movement that aligns with authoritarianism. conservatism favors those already with power, the rich and the patriarchy, and is willing to use the state to keep that power. conservatives are more pro police, pro prison and pro military force. Conservatives try to restrict who can vote. Conservatives try to restrict the rights of workers. conservatives are trying to regulate morality: abortion, drugs, sex. While liberalism acknowledges that there is not a level playing field, and tries to expand opportunities for the average person, the disadvantaged and downtrodden, seeking a more egalitarian society that works for everyone. Liberals celebrate non-conformity.

conservatives talk a lot about keeping the govt out of things... personal freedom, etc.
Unless it's about issues they disagree with - at which point they're ready to kick down doors for a pot plant, stem cells, abortion on raped 10 year olds, or two men playing grabass (although they're alright with lesbians, oddly).
It's the lack of consistency that I find annoying - either live in a nanny state, or don't. IMO, they're just as bad as dems when it comes to wanting the govt to control personal aspects of our lives - just on different issues. They scream states' rights, while demanding FEMA camps for exporting 7% of the population. They scream "less spending!" while demanding a 1900-mile wall and massive military growth, since today's military size is obviously inadequate.

Wrong.
Progressivism is an authoritarian movement that celebrates conformity to its PC normative. Please get out of your bubble more often.

Maybe because only a 10% of the population is homosexual? ::)

It's all in the game, Tim. Get a guy like Obama (pretends to be "liberal" for whatever that's supposed to mean these days, black, claims to have grown up disadvantaged, puts on the "soul brother" act when convenient) and he can pull every move from the Bush administration without a peep from his "side".
-
No one can deny that these things (HS etc) were created to be used against on our own people.

When I was young and worked out a lot, I got offered money several times for gay sex. I too turned them all down, I wasn't that desparate for cash. I guess you could say I had a "dick pulling physique."

No one? I can and do. Whether or not HS into something he wasn't intended to be and expanded it's reach (like all government departments) there would be no HS if it wasn't for 9/11. The world is a different place and we are being attacked here at home and people are willing and even want to die for their cause. What would you propose? Are you against searching passengers before boarding a plane?

Some of the binaries are still decent. All the discussion groups are mostly dead spam traps, with maybe 1-2 real posts a month. Even the prolific MFW troll Robert Schuh who loved them, gave up on them, and was trying his hand at bodybuilding.com and Ironage, before he passed away.
