Title: House of cards who watches it?
Post by: Competitor 9 on August 30, 2015, 12:20:27 AM
My wife and I are wrapping up the first season as I speak. It's a fantastic show, intellectually stimulating and great cast, my own draw back is that frank might be bisexual which I don't really care for... Seems like a meaningless attempt to play to modern time.

Great show.  Season 2 IMO isn't as good as season 1, but season 3 is great.  Season 2 is till good though.

The fact that he's bisexual is merely a plot device to mirror the cover-ups that are the lives of real politicians.

There is a lot of truth in that. I suppose they are touching all bases

Frank Underwood is the best TV villian since JR Ewing.

Typical of Spacey to give Underwood a gay slant. Francis Urqhart, from the original series, is far more ruthless / devious with not a hint of gayness.

The BBC produced three series("seasons" for Yanks).

The first part of the trilogy from 1990 was immense and really captured the essence of British Westminster politics, after Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher was toppled from power.

Best political show I've seen is The Thick Of It... funny as fuck and altho its a parody its a good reflection of how these fuckers operate..

Malcolm Tucker is the best bully ever on British TV...

Parliament bro. Us Yanks wouldn't understand it, it had to be dumbed down for us.

Also, if he wasn't bisexual, Francis might give Don Draper a run for his money as top male character on TV.

Tried one episode and found it unwatchable.  Even though it was only 25 years ago, that's long enough to seem like something from the 1600s.  Also the unfamiliarity of British politics was the difference between football and soccer.

Just stop after the first episode of season 2. It's all Dan Hill from there.

So you're saying it's top tier in many ways.

Please advise when you have watched the first episode of season 2.  I have a Navy Mike joke but don't want to give a spoiler.

I can't believe Claire's cancer came back that fast and they killed her off in the last episode of season 4. That was nuts but I'm excited to see how this helps Frank's re-election chances. No spoilers!

I am really enjoying season 4 right now.

Granted, a season 3 recap would have been nice.

the first few episodes are kinda blah.  Just okay.

The second half moves very fast.  Great finale, just finished it.  WORLDS better than the season 3 ending.

I know it'll be a year before season 5 comes out, but yeah... you'll be looking fwd to it bigtime after seeing the finale.
