I know nothing about it.
Who uses it and why?

Lots of servers run Linux, because it doesn't impose as much overhead as Microsoft's servers.
It's also 'open source' so it can be customized to suit a user's needs. Many long time computer users enjoy this aspect.
Developers, scientists, and teachers all like Linux because you can more easily see how everything works and change some aspect of the OS to suit your needs.
-
Porn streams on it faster.
and it's free.

More Secure: open source has has more eyes and is audited by the security community.
Unix Environment: more command line centric and easier for power users.
Monolithic Kernel Design: more secure than a micro-kernel design
POSIX threads: windows is POSIX compliant, however.
UNIX user model more secure and standard. Windows is getting better, tho.
Kernel processes are all in ring 0, no user processes allowed. The last Windows source I saw (NT4) had moved the desktop GUI to ring 0 for performance. Bad idea.

Linux sucks cock, accept it

I use Apple products but am a confident straight man.

It,s kewl.
On a serious note, I used slack and backtrack some years ago for network and blackhat stuff, it has many advantages. But Im currently on Win and use linux pretty rarely, for specific stuff. Win has improved a lot. There are certain tools that are better for development in linux or MacOS tho'.

to be unique ::) ::)

srsly unless you're a programmer or developer it's no use.. Windows almost never get bluescreen of death these days, most games, apps, works well in Windows/Mac.

Linux is good if you know what you're doing you have the time and nerve to gradually grow into it.
Never was a *nixer but I was interested in trying some Linux distros and the, false, premise of having an OS with a C compiler out of the box lured me into giving it a try.
Total disappointment. I settled with Vector Linux and Dragora but in all honesty, I'm rarely using it.

I am pretty sure that there is a tool that does.
sudo apt-get install cock-suck in Debian
sudo yum install cock-suck in RHEL.
-
I use it daily.
That's just me of course. I probably use everything at some point though.
Take it for what you will.

For personal use, it has limited utility. Even when I was deploying on Linux, I did all my dev on MacOS. I do have four 2U servers in a rack in my basement running Ubuntu and hosting several multi-player game servers for my son.

Sucks balls unless you need a secure server.

It's nice to have around if someone wants to borrow your computer, just shift over to a terminal window and say "be my guest". ;D
Watch them walk away and resume streaming porn/Mr O/Getbig.

Windows 10 let's you do that now

There are a lot on benefits of Linux over windows, besides gaming of course.
Over Mac OS X, no so much because OS X is a Unix based system.
-
I use it to run all of my websites on, my radio shows use Audiocity, and I also run web scrappers and net spiders.

Yep and I have it on my Windows machine. The cool thing about Linux is that I can install it on any of my old computers and its functional again....or I can purchase an Android stick for 30 bucks , plug it into any TV set and turn it into a computer.....perfect for travel

Strangely, I find myself becoming less enthusiastic about Linux all of a sudden...

I run a VPS server so I have to run Linux for maintenance, updates, and changes but I used to be a RHSE years ago when I set up computer networks. You're welcome to contact Red Hat as my name is still in their database.
In any event, I have nothing to prove to a toad piece of shit such as yourself. Buzz off

Oh geez... a RHSE livin' in a trailer. Just how much more bullshit can you pull out of your black ass?
Your name is everywhere actually, and pictures of your head floating in a shitter either, that's not exactly the proof of anything I guess.

why would you leave a job that pays well above the national average as a RHSE, to bar work and eating a chicken breast as a luxury night?

I'm guessing..
A.) he is a lair
B.) he got fired
C.) he is a dumbass
D.) ????

There are RHCA, RHCE, and RHCSA.
Every Redhat Cert expires after 2 versions of the OS.
So if you are an RHCE with RHEL 4, you are expired once RHEL 6 comes out.

Linux is an open source version of Unix. There are many variations of Linux. Anyone can take the source code and modify it to fit their specific needs.
Unix is run on 67% of all websites in the world (Microsoft Server runs on 32.9%, OSX Server on the rest)
of all the Unix servers, 67% is Unix, 35.8% Linux. Debian is the most common flavor of Linux, followed by Ubuntu, CentOS, and Red Hat.
On the desktop, very few people run Linux. For development, I'll run Linux in a VM on my Mac.

I run several steam servers on Linux in my basement. The clients are a different story.

That's not exactly true.
Linux is simply a kernel.
That's it.
While the command structure of Linux mimics the commands of the proprietary Unix operating systems, they have no lineage so to speak of.

The thing with linux that irks me the most is its trunk sip PTMOL protocal has demonstrabable glitches dating back from years back based on an unstable platform.
-
Security, cost (free/open source), and freedom to do whatever the fuck I want.
I like Linux Mint. If I need to run anything from Windows I can just use Wine to emulate it or run it in a virtual machine.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2015/09/06/windows-10-worst-feature-now-installing-on-windows-7-and-windows-8/
All the tracking features and monitoring everything you do shit on Windows 10 is going implemented into Windows 7 and 8. Microsoft will have access to your family pictures, movies on your computer, your illegally pirated movies, music and games... all sent to Microsoft. Your picture will be taken if you have a webcam, Windows will take a screenshot of your desktop every few minutes and send to Microsoft..
