Title: Motley's last tour
Post by: DHEA-100 on September 05, 2015, 02:59:12 PM
Anybody seen/going to see Motley on this last tour?  Tommy's drum kits does some wild sh#$ I read.  I feel sorry for Mick though.  W/out him they'd have gone nowhere.

Last tour?

Didn't they say that the last time they had a "last tour?"

Self-titled album with Corabi is criminally underrated.

Yes, last tour should've been in '94 with JC.

Yeah, they had a 'Farewell Tour' years ago.

Abso-fucking-lutely!!!  Hooligan's Holiday.  They could have stayed truer to they're punk roots & gained a lot of credibility but Nikki chose style over substance & they lost mine & alotta other's respect.  Vince ain't shit compared to Corrabi..

The close out at the Hollywood Bowl.

Debating on going.

I've seen them probably 6 or 7 times, and each time Mick just looks more and more dead.

Don't know if I need to see him worse off than when I saw him about 8 or 9 years ago.

It was bad enough then.

I love Motley Crue (own all the albums) but have zero interest to see the band in what in my opinion is a sad state of affairs.

Tommy's a very good drummer but his wigger/DJing nonsense has left me cold to him the past couple of decades; Vince is a cool mofo but he's way past his days as a Sunset King; Mick is holding on to life by a thread (but I agree with another member. Mars is underrated for what he brings to the table.); and Nikki, while possibly the only member who's even wanted Crue to continue these past dozen years, doesn't have the attitude he once did. Rock stardom/wealth/time has dulled his edge.

And prime Crue was always about edge.

Besides, I will always be a fan of this band's Hollywood Metal swagger, and that chrome has been rusted for a very long time.

Hearing Vince Neil huff and puff his fat ass through all the hits...I've passed on seeing them a few times.  They're like able for the rock star mentality and some stories of them coming up.  It's a great book.
When you watch them back in 83' playing Monsters of Rock.....you wonder how they ever broke.  Image over substance.  Iron Maiden almost laughed them off the stage on another tour.  The Crüe partied big, but really couldn't play.  Tommy Lee was their strongest player, along with Mick...but they've always been a studio band. Vince can barely sing.  High pitch short winded mumbler.
"Last tour" haha.

There is definite talent in the band, but the partying, etc. always trumped tight live performance, no doubt. And as you say, from a technical perspective, Vince can't sing for shit. Having said this, I do love his voice (on record, at least).

I will always be partial to the Satanic Sleeze Metal look of the SatD era.

Thats correct.  Even one of they're post SHOUT managers Doc McGee said "Nicky can't play worth a shit".  If it wasn't for Mars Motely would have never made it.  They had a chance at some degree of redemption w/ Corrabi but f'ed that up too.

For what it's worth Pearcy is better than Micheal Wharton (neil's real name).  Blotzer f'ed that up bossin' everyone in the band around.

"their", not they're (they are). HTH

Anyway ...

Sixx has always been the chief songwriter, so despite his lack of bass chops (at least in the beginning), without him Crue would not be the same band. Mars simply lent the group musical credibility (along with Lee, of course).

Whether Pearcy is better than Neil ... subjective. Both stink, technically. As a COLOSSAL Ratt fan, I'd take Stephen. But like I say, opinion. Also, I don't buy that Blotz screws things up by being bossy. Despite being a talent (songwriting-wise), Pearcy is likely the biggest difficulty. With everything I've heard/read (and I own both Pearcy's and Blotzer's books), this is likely the deal.

Never knew that was his real name. lol

Crosby kinda fucked Ratt up a little more with the drinking, heroin, and AIDs stuff.  Saw them with Poison when I was 14 or 15 on the Dancing Undercover/Look What the Cat Dragged In tour respectively, and they were both great.  Actually met Bobbi Dahl and Bret Michaels, and they were both totally cool.  It wasn't until years later when I realized that the two girls that went behind the bus with someone on it and then got onto the bus about 10 minutes later had just done him a favor, and that later when Bret came out of the bus and talked to us, he had probably just finished up his turn.  LMAO!  ;D  Ahh...to be young and naive again :P

I finally saw Crue about 6 years ago on the tour for the last studio album they did (at least that I'm aware of).  They put on a great show, but Vince's voice live and on a "record" are worlds apart.  He shortens the lyrics to every song, because he doesn't have the breathing ability to sing the whole line.  That tattoo chick Katt was dating Nikki at the time, and in town to sign her book at the same time as the show.  We ran into her in a hallway when we got lost so my friend could step outside to smoke.  Said hi, and that my friend (not the one I was with) was a big fan of her work, could I take a pic to send to him and she just said no and kept walking.  I didn't ask to take one with her as I could give two shits about some reality "star".  She had some diva going on, but I will say that her face was incredibly beautiful in person.  Legs were like toothpicks tho.  Would not it......would take a blow  8)

Final tour came here quite some time ago with Alice Cooper, and I passed.  Seems like their final tour will be like Ozzy's and just last a lonnnnggggg time

Robbin "King" Crosby contracted HIV through a dirty needle due to the severity of his heroin addiction which is what ultimately died of, a heroin overdose.  He was the brightest, nicest guy in RATT.  Which helps explain why the band fell apart after he split.  Ironically it was Sixx that got him hooked on heroin, initially smoking it before he started injecting it.  He quickly went downhill from there.  The pressure of being the band's leader & the fame just destroyed him.  RIP King!

Sixx - Words
Mars - Music

Nikki wrote the majority of the music and lyrics

Mars played a big role in arranging the music

I guess at least VH is still goin, although not relevant since music's turned into kiddy hood crap.  Roth still sounds good, but sacking Anthony for Ed's fatass son is inexcuseable IMO.

I love seeing wasp live.

They are so musically average but they put on a great show.

Blackie has said that they suck musically which is why they do things like shoot flames from their crotch.

Great show.

Used to see Chris Holmes all the time, interesting man. Not in a good way, though. Absolute trainwreck back then ('02-'06, maybe). His buddy lived behind me, until they tore down his place for condos. Broke into my storage twice before he moved, tweeking f'n thief.

Holmes said Blackie bought him off for $10k - all writing credits, royalties, everything. He was pretty bitter, but he did it to himself, the dumb junkie. Said he auditioned for Motörhead later, but Lemmy told him he was too crazy.

Lemmy tells you you're crazy, that's really saying something.

Perhaps; but in fairness, he was more about the brilliant songwriting and vocals. And no one can take that away, proof:

The best live & studio band I ever saw/heard was WILDSIDE.  They opened for Pearcy & blew his ass away.
