Crime is down in NYC is at lows down from 2002, close to historical lows. Summer shootings at a 20 year low.

murder is up slightly but overall crimes are lowest since 2002.
Chris Christie was on msnbc tuesday whining about the spike in crime. They brought out a statistician and showed it's actually down a lot. technology = police can respond faster, everything/everyone is on camera, etc.
Christie said "well if you ask anyone it doesnt FEEL like its down..." Bag of shit right there. Crime is a hot news story, so it's getting more coverage, so maybe it FEELS higher, but according to data, it's not.
Christie is desperate, at 3-4% in polls and trying to use deblasio as the bad guy so he can get some media traction. He's fat, he has no true political belief system, and this is his last ditch effort to stay relevant.

As a lifelong NYC resident-- the place is turning into a hell hole circa 1992.
There are random stray dog attacks on the streets of Manhattan, shootings on a daily basis and droves of homeless people shitting on the floor in public. The cops stopped going after criminals to spend most of the days enforcing Deblasio's signature piece of legislation"Vision Zero". Vision Zero mandates that the city speed limit is 25MPH. There are hidden cameras, checkpoints, random patrols- etc. Its really quite a remarkable waste of resources and money. The NYC public school system has also descended back into the toilet-- but don't fret. Deblasio has his priorities straight. He is going to ban horsecarriages from central park and put more citibike rentals across the five boros!
He is a true visionary.
