Title: Another wristwatch thread...
Post by: Irongrip400 on September 09, 2015, 08:50:16 AM
Anybody know anything about the Breitling Emergency watch?  Evidently if you are lost, it has some sort of black box capability where they can find you.  I don't spend money on flashy watches, but this certainly has my attention.  Any getbiggers know the cost or have one?  I would assume over $10,000?

Breitling will also give you a new watch if you activate the transmitter in a real emergency situation. The piece will cost $15,000 when it's released this year. The watch comes with a charger for the emergency module and the quartz movement is powered by a separate battery.

The email I got from the jewelry store makes this one look pretty masculine.  It doesn't look like a $15,000 watch, but I knew being a Breitling it wouldn't be cheap.  The thing about watches like this, is only someone who knows what they're looking at will actually notice.  To your average Joe it's just a watch.

My days of going into war zones are long behind me since I left the Special Forces, long before I was a pro bodybuilder, so I don't really see the appeal of an emergency zone watch.

The only decent watch I have is a Breitling but I've had it ten years and I'm wondering if I can persuade myself to get something else.

A real G would smash up his real, not fake, £10K plus watch on video just because he doesn't give a f*ck and rolls harder than the Getbig losers.

Recently got my Sinn UX S EZM 2B. That thing is made from German submarine steel, pretty much indestructible, can be read from all angles, and the case is certified to withstand over 1200 bar/atm of pressure. In other words, the perfect watch for my desk job.

why do you guys seem so hung up on expensive watches? I guess I just dont understand the difference between a 100 dollar watch that tells time and a 10 thousand dollar watch that tells time. The time is still the same

Why are people buying expensive cars, clothes, ...?

Of course you could buy a Tudor or Breitling with a "refined" ETA 2824-2 movement for 3500 bucks, or you could spend 500 bucks on a watch of the same quality with the same movement (except maybe a different engraving on the rotor). Only difference is how much they spend on marketing. Again, same with any luxury item. I'm only buying Swiss/German made watches myself, but if I'm completely honest, the best watch I've ever had all in all was a $300 Seiko. It's not exactly rational.

People spend big money on houses, cars, bikes, boats, everything.I spend on tvs and watches.I have never lost money on a rolex,i buy grey market and keep them in mint condition so i usually make money after wearing a watch fothis months.Bought my rolex 116520 daytona for 9800 in orlando when at disney 2 years ago and wore it for 8 months or so and sold it for 10600.rolex is not a risky investment, you will always get what you paid if you dont pay retail.everybody like something.

Totally agree. And even if they do lose value by something $3/day what's the big deal if it gives you pleasure, so long as you can afford all the more important things in life.  3 bucks a day is a coffee.

New ones are about $50K plus right?  I like the idea of one partly just so I can look at it and think "this looks nice and I don't need to bat an eyelid about the price because I've worked hard to get somewhere...".

I will film myself pissing into a pint glass, then I will chug it all down in one go.

You can't put a condition on it.

Just do it because you really don't give a f*ck and have bigger balls than everyone else.  Not because you've got a boner from all the attention.

One thing that's always put me off an expensive watch are the plastic playboys with their fakes. I don't know enough to tell the difference but can someone who knows their watches spot it?

Other than the Deepsea Rolex's are too small. Your right about holding value but I've bought almost every swiss watch off a watch forum or at a 30% plus discount so never lost money on Rolex, Breitling's, Omega's, Panerai etc.

I just picked up a 45.5 Omega Planet Ocean and the new movement is amazing.

Yeah i can spot a fake but its getting harder and harder, they make some that are about 99% of a genuine,a friend of mine has a replica of a sub and we walked into a rolex AD to check some new watches out and the dealer thought his was real until he told him it wasnt then he put it next to the real one and only real difference was the spacing of the words on the dial and rehaut.

Have been deep sea yet?  I laugh at the people that buy chronos.  Who the fuck uses the timer?  Such a waste and just makes the face look ugly, or the deep sea divers up to 500M.  Are you living in a fucking submarine?

I dont car for chronos usually but the daytona is beautiful.its just a pretty cool thing for the watch to be able to do if you are into watches then this makes sense being rated to 5000 or 10000 ft whatever.Kind of like why people into watches care alot about movements.

Never got the hype with Rolex, overall I find them too flashy and not something I'd wear in a formal setting, or otherwise. I'm truly in love with Omega and Tag Heuer.

My favorite by far is the Link Ayrton Senna 2004 limited edition.

I was in the Millennia Mall in Orlando the other day and decided to get a new watch. Nothing too expensive, set a limit of $5000 and set out looking for a white faced chronograph with black leather strap. Nearly bought a Mount Blanc at $4200 then I spied a great looking watch in the next display cabinet. Never heard of the brand before and when I tried it on I expected it to be more than the Mount Blanc.
Turned out it had a retail of $599 and the shop guy sold it to me for $380 because it was old stock.

I fuckin love it and everyone asks what it is which never happens with my old gold Rolex or any of my other 20+ watches.
Bulova's Precisionist chronograph.

Bulova's Precisionist chronograph.

What U think??

Yes, those Mount Blancs are nice. Shame you can't get a Mount Blanc at Kohls like Bulova though.

I think this is the Mont Blanc that originally caught my eye.

I picked up a Milgauss not long ago, needed an understated watch for everyday use.

Love the simplicity of the milgauss.

What U think??

looks nice and you saved 4620 even better.

What kind of jobs do you guys have that you can afford to spend $5K plus on a watch?  Are you getting the Chinese high grade counterfeits at a discount?

Patek is nice, but I prefer IWC, jaeger lecoultre or Hublot, but hublot has become too ghetto life.

Owned IWC and JLC and prefer the other brands. IWC had crappy resale too and bought it used.

I, for one, am extraordinarily happy with this one.

Was a bit apprehensive because I'm not a fan of Quarz movements, and this has to use one for technical reasons, but it's a great watch.
