Examples:
Dad thinks that vitamins are the key to being healthy so he buys those vitamin juices that have like 8000% of your daily value in Vitamin C. Mom thinks that protein bars are healthy just because they have protein in them. She was trying to lose weight so she bought the bars with the most amount of protein(those mass gainer bars with a shit ton of sugar too). She ended up gaining weight and was confused.
People that think you are jacked accuse you of taking creatine, like its some sort of taboo thing to take lol.
-
People are sheep and believe what they hear no matter who says it
-
My favorite is when you tell someone you are on a low carb diet so they suggest to you fruit, oatmeal and rice. Clueless.

In the Internet era, there's no real excuse to know nothing about nutrition, but, lot people just don't care enough to learn, and they hang around with like minded people. So, in their circle, being a fat slob is normal.
-
So many fad diets that folks get confused and buy into the next new "system".
I would ask clients their current diets and they all thought they were eating good, but in reality the majority were atrocious.
Some got insulted when I critiqued them and that`s what they were paying me for. :(

I believe that part of the issue is that children do not learn about nutrition from an early age. Not even the basics.
In elementary school, we learn about science, math, history, and english, etc. By the time we reach junior high or highschool, we have a basic understanding of these studies and are able to continually use them throughout our lives. But children never learn about nutrition, either at home or in school. The average parent knows jack shit about nutrition, so they wouldn't be no help. And school has dictated that certain topics (science, math, history) are more important than other topics (nutrition). Thus, there is a limit to what can be taught in school. So, the question remains: Where do children learn about proper nutrition, if not from home or school? Nowhere. We enter into adulthood not know anything about nutrition. Though, I believe in certain health classes nutrition is BRIEFLY covered, but nowhere near enough. If you don't teach these things at an early age, good luck trying to teach them during the teenage years. :-\ :-\
I would be a proponent for some time during the school day to go toward teaching nutrition. It will never happen, but it would be a worthwhile endeavor.

Because those 95%'ers aren't 5%'ers....

This must be a joke.
Ordinary people are led by science like they used to by religion. The nutritional turmoil in their lives is no coincidence - they buy into everything from anyone.

Here's what the Government was peddling circa 1992.
How is anyone not gonna be a fat fvck eating 6-11 servings a day of starchy carbs?

I'm rather conservative in this regard, although during times where I did a lot of cardio a high carb diet didn't do any harm.
Now that I'm a sentient micro-tiny tit I eat little carbs and mostly high fat/low protein and my mind and body feels a lot better - fast carbs, unless used as a treat, seem pretty toxic for sofa surfers.
I vividly remember this table from school, which we used to teach kids about nutrition and it always made me cringe looking at the overfed stock in front row and knowing that we would fasten their demise.

why do people who don't care about said subject not understand it?
obvious answer is obvious.

It should be more of a suprise when someone eats a diet of unrefined foods.
From the top down people are lied to about what is healthy and good for them. It's been going on since our parents and grandparents were kids, so how can we expect results other than what we have?

Lotta truth there, but a lot of the obesity comes down to simple gluttony, and most people know that if you eat too much, you're gonna get fat.
I'm reminded of a fat women with whom I used to work. We had a department meeting in which good sized sandwiches were served. After we all finished ours, the fatso grabs another and proceeds to make it disappear.
A common thought went through the head of everyone else in the room, "That's why she's so fat!"

A lot of people listen and swallow...pretty sad, but a must to make society works. We need all the cheep doing what they are telled to do!
Society would have collapsed if everyone was a leader, thinker, philosopher, skeptic!
Stupid random people are the foundation in this society! Be thankfull!

Because we have been misled by these companies to believe they are good for us when they are not.
Humans are very gullible.

Rightfully so, as we should be led by science.
Anyway, you have a greater chance of rebuking such nutritional turmoil if you have a basic understanding of nutrition. It doesn't mean you won't fall prey to the bullshit, but at least you have a better shot of it. No system is perfect. People will stray, but if we don't educate from an early age, then we are pretty much 100% doomed. Then there is no chance.

Theres no money in education about nutrition
