for the life of me I don't get it...the reason TRUMP got so much support is because the base is so sick of the status quo they want someone to kick in the door and chop heads, a decisive forceful personality like TRUMP...yet Sleepy Ben is the polar opposite of this with his quiet, slow voice, half closed eyes and non-confrontational style...I mean can you imagine Carson in a room with PUTIN or having to face down other alpha world leader/dictators or foamy mouthed democrats and their media hatchet men??
he has VP written all over him.
the other amazing thing is that he is actually really soft on illegal immigration(the opposite of which supposedly fuels TRUMP's rise as well), and is weak on the 2nd amendment also for gods sakes..yet conservatives are still flocking to him in droves??
we know bush and most of the others are dead in the water RINOS but why on earth is Sleepy Ben blowing past ted cruz? or even Rubio?
I simply don't understand it, this election season has defied all convention and is impossible to predict (I love it)

Part of the embracement of anti-establishment candidates: Trump, Carson, Fiorina. People (including me) often complain about career politicians. Well here is an example of people from outside the beltway who are making headway. I'm not a fan of Trump as a presidential candidate at all, but the fact voters are turning to people who have not spent their lives in politics is a great thing.
Also, given the lack of integrity in the entire process, it's nice to see someone who isn't flat out dishonest like so many politicians can be.

about half of the repub base voters are anti-establishment.
2/3 of those aren't that religious - they pick trump.
1/3 of those are religious - they pick carson.
The other half of the party likes the establishment candidates, as per usual.
Pretty simple breakdown.

Carson's voice was never heard before...Now that he's actually ramping it up on social media and he was able to get a chance to speak at the end of the GOP debate and it seems like his popularity just took off from their...It's also a mixture of the fact that he is black in my opinion....It seems as though people enjoy what he had to say...His calm demeanor while being able to preach what alot of people want to hear gives them an alternative to Trump...Guys like Christie and Paul try the "Trump approach" but you're never going to beat him at his own game...

he seems like a really likeable guy. but hes simply not the type that will kick in the door and clean house, and get things done through sheer willpower and force of personality. hes simply too soft for that. but he def has VP written all over him.

well, a whole lot of the repub base was okay with carl padadino smashing shit was baseball bats. the rowdy, angry, unable to control self stuff works with the lowest IQ of the base.

right now we do. someone with a force of personality, decisiveness firmness, ability to push people/make things happen is required at this point.
repubs have both houses yet Obama continues to have his way with them on EVERYTHING, because he and the dems are strong, ruthless and forceful, and the GOP leadership is the definition of soft and hapless.

You can be decisive, firm, and make things happen without being a jerk. Happens all the time. It's actually a sign of good leadership when someone can get things done without leaving a trail of bodies in the process. Trump's style would be a disaster as president.
But I do agree Republicans have been pretty spineless.

He seems like a guy who would get pushed around. He doesn't seem too terribly excited about fixing anything, either... at least nothing he'll give specifics on.

He's trying to focus and is very careful with his words which is why he's also falling slowly. You can tell that he's not used to being in front of a lot of people, which is interesting because he's been campaigning for now long now?
I used to be that way when I first started teaching classes as a graduate student.
