This year's O provides a perfect example of a big absurdity in pro bodybuilding and sometimes all of competitive bodybuilding.
You have 5 guys all within 3-5 percent of each other and what matters is whether they can time how they look for a 2 hour period on one day. And it is a subjective decision anyway about what appeals visually to a judge (grapefruits notwithstanding).
Some shows the winner walks out, bam, easily 10 percent better, head and shoulders above the rest (or clearly a big Hamm). At this show the top 4 were all so close there is something absurd about picking a winner and claiming it really means much.

And by the end of the 2 hour prejudge some guys looked better than at the start. A 10 percent change in condition when the margins are so close makes it all a crapshoot. This probably justifies giving it to the reigning champ as long as he's right there in the mix. I tend to agree with the conventional wisdom and think to beat the champ you need to BEAT the champ.
