My girlfriend and I have a tradition of watching Dark Night of the Scarecrow every Halloween.

creepiest clown ever. pity about the daft ending.
it was supposed to be getting the remake treatment but has been cancelled now after the FANTASTIC FOUR flop i think.

I never get why Stephen King books always get shitty C list actors unless they have more serious plots (The Green Mile, The Shining (which he hates - he said it was supposed to be about family breakdown) etc).
Pet Semetary, despite the shitty cast, haunted me as I watched it when my son was 2 years old and had blonde hair.

I think King himself is the problem. The best adaptations are the ones where he relinquishes control entirely, freeing up a good screenwriter/director team to fix them up. He's somewhatt hacky, truth be told, but he's had plenty of interesting ideas.
Of course he hates The Shining - Kubrick made a masterpiece with his own vision. The films King involves himself with are mostly (all?) cheesy turds.

I'd say it isn't easy relinquishing your story to someone else to show to the masses. Why do his non horror movies like the Green Mile and I think he did Shawshank get good actors?
-
it was a great fucking book
if they made a r rated mini series of the book it would be awesome
i read that book the parts with the clown were pretty freaky.

Slumber Party Massacre followed by Silent Night, Deadly Night. Only thing as scary as a girl's slumber party is an evil Santa.

I'd imagine it's precisely because he relinquished control; studio knows he can't insist on crapping it up, like that campy 80s shit.
Stand By Me, Carrie, The Shining, Misery, Green Mile (probably others) all had established and/or talented directors sign on. Or they already had great screenplays, so they shopped solid directors.
Usually, once those two are set, A-List actors become interested. Or, the studio pursues them based on a promising product with a potentially lucrative return. Not sure with Shawshank, though, because Darabont was a first-time director. Guessing the script was sweet, which attracted the big names, but that's just speculation.

Donnie Darko was pretty scary. Would've been even scarier with Tbombz in the bunny suit.

Not bad at all considering it was a made for tv movie. Mellow enough to watch with kids, dark enough to make it enjoyable for adults.

I was in Kindergarten the first time I saw that old classic Disney movie The legend of sleepy hollow (Ichabod crane). The part where the headless horseman is chasing him through the forest trying to chop off his head. Every kid in our kindergarten class was traumatized after watching that, including myself. When I see that movie now as an adult many decades later, it still wings me out a bit.

HALLOWEEN...is my absolute favorite all time ,,john carpenter did the music, there aren't too many movies that the music created with the character the right blend of suspense and back story.there wasn't too many killings ,the last 1/2 hour is great.the 6 shots at the end and then loomis looks out the window to see him gone with the music is awesome ending,,halloween 2 was good not great still don't know how he survived being burnt to a crisp lol..more killing and a bit cheesy still not as bad 4/5/6 which were late 80's schlock by then.by then the mask and guy doing myers was not the same..

Yes, sir. Halloween is brilliant, JC just got everything right: interesting story, premium on suspense, subtlety over shock, chilling/tense music (as noted), and clever as f**k direction, all on a shoestring budget.
Discussed before, but he was so right using mindless evil as Michael's motivation. Can't really be explained or reasoned with; plus, it adds a hint of supernatural without getting too goofy.

A nightmare on Elm street does it for me, the creepiest theme music, Tina's death and her visit to the school in a body bag etc, just brilliant
