Post by: 240 is Back on September 25, 2015, 08:00:03 AM
Great guy.  Not a fan of his budget collusion with Obama and Reid, but outside of that

No...the Conservatives have been trying for months to get rid of him. They tried last year but now the votes to unseat him have finally come in...last 48hrs or so and he decided rather then that, he resigned. Honorable thing to do I guess. He could have stayed but it would have been with Dem help.

Will the repubs get their shutdown over planned parenthood, with him retiring?  Surely he is trying to bail right before that happens?

Good for him. Time to write a book and retire to the Hamptons.

HAHAHAA.  Ol' Smokey can now retire and spend his time doing nothing.  Like he was doing when he had a job.

Boehnner once said that he wanted his time as Speaker to be a historic one.  Well, he got his wish.  He's the first one to quit.

He's second in line for the freakin' presidency, he has zero scandal or criminal case against him.

He just didn't want to be at the wheel for another shutdown from a do-nothing congress.  They don't know what compromise it.  Boehnner TRIED being tea party in 2011, gave up fast.  Now we see if tea party can grab leadership and do anything differently.

People who are fans of government doing nothing will miss Boehner

I guess there just wasn't anything important happening while he was speaker though they did get around to trying to repeal Obamacare what like 60 times and they shut down the government once and damaged our credit rating.....so that ain't nothing

HAHAHA after four years of talking about it and running campaigns on it, Boehnner has finally created a job.

You would cry too if you had to work with and lead a party of idiots.

In politics you have to crefully pick the hill you're going to be willing to die on.  Boehner didn't seem to have a notion re what that hill might be for him.  Right or wrong...in  a sharply divided political environment, you have to demonstrate a willingness to stand for something other than the process.  Boehner has never done that, so he's gone

This'd make more sense if we saw Reid and Pelosi blubbering just as often.

couldn't have said it better//...it was tough constantly being pushed into a corner because the crazies in your party hate Obama and don't want to work with him......it really made his job worthless and useless....his job as speaker is to help compromise with the president...he couldn't do that with the Tea Party nuts

Lots have said this.  But one reason he seemed to be (personally) unpopular was his smoking.  Ryan said that it was no secret that when you went to a meeting with him present, that everyone involved always tried to sit as far away from him as possible because of his stink.   Said very few people showed up late to his meetings because doing so ensured that you would get an empty chair next to him and have to gag on the ashtray smell for the duration.

CTers on the far right ae saying something from the pope's speech triggered this sudddenly?   ???

more likely, he knew he'd be outed/powerless soon and didn't want to preside over ANOTHER shutdown.  Repubs are erect for a shutdown, and PP is just the excuse for it.  They want to be in the news for shutting it all down, rally their base for the donations/election.  A shutdown is awesome for that!

nonsense.

"Nonsense." Only word that ever needs to follow "CTers are saying," in any context, ever.
