Awesome! Nobody else on the planet would have got to that ball. Maybe Bo Jackson in his prime, but even Bo wouldn't have done it that smooth...

Best player in baseball.  On course to be one of the best ever...

If the writers knew what they were doing, he'd be a three time MVP in his first three years, with a possible fourth.

And get to watch it. I think the last time sports (in any sport) had this much excitement for an athlete was when Tiger was on his winning streak.

Just fucking around, I don't get golf is all.

For me, it was watching the baseball records fall in the 90s. Shit's all dirty, though, far as I'm concerned. At the time, however ...

Jim Edmunds used to do that over the shoulder. Memories are short, but right now Trout isn't the best defensive CF the Angels have had.

Lance Armstrong never tested positive.

Although I guess to be completely accurate I should say a positive test of Lance's was never public knowledge until after he retired.

Yes, over the triple crown.  Just because something is extremely rare always translate equally into value.

Batting average / rbi are pretty flawed metrics, where trout led in more valuable categories.

Plus, Trout was elite defensively and as a baserunner.  Cabrerra was a butcher in the field and can't run.

Overall trout was better.

But is that their standard or yours? I wouldn't argue, because I have zero idea how they define value, or if they really even mean it, as opposed to just "best."

For that matter, no idea what criteria they use for the Hall, either, totally clueless.

Well, for the Hall, there's a lot that goes in, but it's mostly writer / veteran's committee subjectivity.  It can also transcend stats, like in the case of Phil Rizzuto, or Jim Rice being forced in.

For MVP, defining "value" has always been a bit vague....Some view it as the "most valuable to their team" (which is subjective in it's own right), some look at it as "best player", some say "if player X was not on the team....they'd stink)....stuff like that.  I generally don't like awards that are influenced by what team a player plays on....sometimes you have outstanding players who are on shitty teams.  Not their fault.

Personally, I think MVP should be the best overall player in the league.  I would use a combo of regular stats, advanced metrics and the eye test.

As for Hall, your take on Rose and the Juice Era: Who gets in and when?

My take: All should get in.

Whether MLB likes it or not, those guys are part of the league's history, whether it be good or bad.

Having the all time hits leader, HR leader, and Cy Young leader all out is silly to me.  Baseball was implicit in the steroid era and needs to accept the inflated numbers as part of their history.   So many were using that it's impossible to quantify who did what or the effect it had.  For a guy like Bonds, others were using steroids too, but nobody came close to the production / #'s he had.

Who is to say 80% of his HRs weren't hit off guys who were using....how many guys did Clemens strike out who were using?  Plenty of guys used an still stunk.......get over it MLB.

With the war on the white man in full effect, Trout has to be extra careful when it comes to getting tested. Make sure his fast acting agents are what they are suppose to be. One fuck up and he's toast.

If Rose goes in does that give Shoeless Joe Jackson a consideration as well?

Throwing the World Series...I don't know if he'll ever recover from that one.
