They will make the announcement at 11:30PM EST
What do you guys think this is about?
-
I know it already: they found Goodrums sense of shame burried over there. Plan to transport it back to earth and return to it's owner.

I guess next step is to find proof of life on mars currently or in the past
-
It easy. They have confirmed a theory of where the water went on Mars.
-
does it have a hole? Kai Greene comes to mind
-
I honestly don't see any relevance of this shit. They have found liquid water boo hoo, so what? We have plenty of it here on earth, why the hell someone is spending blillions on searching for it in a fukkin Mars? How about spending these billions on cleaning earths oceans from plastic bottles for ex?
-
I've been wondering what happened to him. I miss seeing his mother.

water means life, life on mars means we aren't special and the bases for religion crumbles to the ground, not that it would stop them because they have a mental disorder.
but the pursuit of science and truth is never a wasteful endeavor.

I don't think it will change anything for religious nuts. Pursuit of science is good, but it's pretty much futile in this case, imho.

I'm genuinely curious about the unrelated comments I highlighted in red. Are they merely a "troll job" to rile up theists? I'm very interested to understand NASA's findings, but never once did I think to insult anyone given that interest. What prompted you two to capriciously insult theists and interject a religious perspective? At this point, we don't know what the specific announcement is LOL. NASA already discovered ice at the poles of Mars and it's apparent that river like formations are presented on the surface.

side question, given there are so many religions and even within Christianity so many different theories, how do you know what you are following is the true way
-
Im just curious to see how fast the jesus freaks come up with some explanation about past/present life on mars and how to incorporate it into their rhetoric so it makes sense for them

watch live

Christianity is a non-works based religion as opposed to all other religions that are works-based and/or "of the occult"/demonic in nature. The life, death and resurrection of Christ is powerful to distinguish it. The Holy Spirit of God within believers today is powerful as well. Hinduisim, Buddhism, Islam, Catholicism, Mormonism, JW's, Cults of Osiris, Horus, etc....have nothing like Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit to distinguish them. That's quick and dirty....I'd take anything else to the religion board if there's genuine interest.

These we related. You see - if there actually IS life somewhere else, where are no jesus - it probably means that jesus god is just a fruit of an imagination. Hope this helps.

I never understood this way of thinking. Why do we always search for signs of life by using earth's organisms and eco system as the default basis? Why do we assume that aliens would need oxygen or water, or any type of climate that humans would deem habitable?
If aliens exist, and have the technology to traverse the universe, then they would have the capability to be able to survive anywhere.

Catholics have Jesus all over their religion and Mormons are called Church of Jesus Christ. How do neither of them believe in Jesus? Doesn't islam believe in him too? Feel free to pm me if you don't want to clutter the board, as I don't really understand your logic.
Also, hopefully there is the ability to sustain life, it will be the next place is white folks colonize. There is hope!

Often if my answers are to thorough they aren't read. If I summarize they aren't thorough enough. ;D Not gonna dive any deeper into that topic here. If there's interest I'm sure it'll be brought to the religion board.
I'm actually listening to the NASA announcement right now. ;)

Ok? but what would potential life on other planets (aliens) necessarily have to do with it?
Somehow I don't picture an alien drinking an Aquafina.
I just think that water shouldn't be the main focus in judging a planet's possibility of harboring alien life forms.
The discovery of water on Mars past/present, does not really mean anything in the grand scheme of things.

NASA has known for a long time there are other life forms. I think they are slowly feeding the media. Do people really believe we are the only intelligent life form in Galaxies which we do not understand never mind reach.

Well considering that math is a science.........it is supposedly mathematically impossible for there not to be.
But what "life" are we talking about? Tiny micro organisms and bacteria, or full fledged greys in flying saucers?
I'd say that the existence of the universe itself proves that religion is just a human placebo, but I digress.......
Maybe the Earth is the current zenith in ecological life and planetary evolution.
-
look at some of the video material from NASA which they allow.. now the chances are it´s the tip of the ice berg. The Pandora's Box is open. Anyone who believes we are "it" is narrow thinking.

Not sure about nasa hiding anything, maybe they just don't know, but I don't think we are the only planet with life on it.

We can´t be as Shizzo pointed out the Mathematical equation done shows we are not. Look up the videos on it. I believe the ex Astronauts from the US and Russia who as respected men went on camera and spoke about it.

I find it funny that we would pretend to know what an alien needs to survive. Oxygen, water, and a ham sandwich?
There is a reason that life evolved to need what the earth's atmosphere offers. What makes you think that life native to other planets (especially in far off galaxies) would need the same mixture of elements to survive?
Just because science has a tentative timetable of how earth's ecosystem came to be, does not mean it should be used as an example for other planets and possible alien life.

Exactly right. The religious nuts are re-writing their books to accommodate homosexuals and gay marriage... Some life on other planets will be a cake walk for them.
-
They'll find water on another planet to get the masses ready for when they ramp up their Hologram machine and project all sorts of shit in the skies...

NASA already announced that they believe the existence of flowing salt water exists on Mars.
Scientists said they need to develop more advanced rovers to send to Mars to examine the peaks of land formations in which the flowing water is thought to exist. Need soil samples and atmospheric samples to bring back to earth for research. Said they need to develop more specific procedures to prevent contamination of Mars' environment by Earth's explorative efforts so that they can clearly delineate between findings on Mars and contaminants from Earth (brought to Mars). Said manned travel to Mars is a long way out because they need to test and test and test first, but that eventual manned exploration is certainly possible now. They also explained existence of salty-percholorates at rsl sites and the need to understand the extremes of temperatures there as it pertains to the process of deliquescence (NASA's favorite hypothesis for the flowing water).
This is generally what I understood. Hopefully someone else can clarify.

I'm not against there being higher forms of intelligence that exist within or outside the universe.
Just men or groups who claim to have inside knowledge on what that means without any actual proof.

what is the % chance of "life" on mars if there was flowing water? Is it a near-certainty, or just one of the required pre-requisites?

I think it shows that if this is true then it is evident it exists further from our sun. there are apparently more suns out there.

Prerequisite for life on Earth which harkens back to shizzo's point. Although, NASA's scientists repeatedly stated their need to "test and test and test" to make sure before we send humans to Mars.....that's decades off though. Although as one of NASA's scientists also noted in the announcement "we don't know how life started on Earth" so their baseline for comparison is already lacking. I don't have an issue with exploration provided we understand our own planet more completely first. Still, I also grasp the argument that the answer to our planet may exist on another....hence the exploration.
-

That is exactly my point. What does water have to do with the odds of finding alien beings?
Fish do not drink water.

I Firmly believe that our ancestors saw "God" this is relevant in many religions. The God we think off is not off this Earth. look at the writings of all religions and cave paintings.
-
If god created the universe, and everything in it, he obviously had no life.
It would also make no sense to make every planet lifeless, except for earth.

The pyramids are alone a signal of very advanced Geometry. way advanced for that time.

They are still trying to cover it up, but NASA also found an ancient seated calf machine on Mars.....
-
I'm curious, why is that?
The universe supposedly has millions of galaxies and billions of planets. Why would god go through all that trouble
creating all of it? For what purpose does the universe serve?
Was god just bored and decided to make a very detailed Minecraft simulator?
"I think I will put a cute little ring around this planet........"
The complexities of why we are here, were never meant for humans to understand. We might just be the byproduct of an elemental soup.

I guess the first assumption is that God's creative efforts were difficult or troublesome for him. Scripture indicates that as far as our existence is concerned he simply "spoke and it came to be".
Scripture indicates that the "heavens declare the glory of God". I think his creation also illustrates the vastness between his infinitude and our finitude. In other words, it helps us better understand who we are subject to and what he's capable of......respect might be a consideration. ;)
I think the complexities of why we are here are incredible, but more than the complexities themselves is the improbability of those complexities arising on their own - that's far more unfathomable to me.
Further still, it's hard for me to buy into the random exploding of nothing into something (via no trigger) and then further explosions of the smaller somethings (ex: stars) and their swirling remains slowly coalescing from a state of chaos into order and then slowly evolving from one type of thing to an entirely different thing with no source of control....ultimately only time as the agent of change. That's a tall order to swallow for me, but that's me. I couple that with the special revelation of God's goodness, grace, mercy and love in my life and I'm hard pressed to eliminate a universal singularity (aka God).
-

mars has been around for almost as long as earth has been around, so ever if there is no life there now there is a chance there was life there way back when. They plan on sending some serious equipment up to do some drilling etc.
My guess is we will find out that an advanced civilization lived on mars and they populated earth just like we are about to do to mars

I love ya MOS, but this statement is pretty ironic, considering all of the fantastical things that Christians must have "faith" in.
But that is why I don't pretend to have any answers when it comes to these things. The universe is infinite. Really? That in itself boggles my mind and makes me realize that I was never meant to understand the complexities of life.
-

Right back at ya!
The thing to consider is that faith doesn't remain blind. Faith matures and grows rock solid.....it's full assurance in the heart of God's reality and existence. Believers in Jesus Christ know his reality via the Holy Spirit in our lives. We feel the presence of God in powerful ways. Our individual relationships with God are personal and because of that he often provides us special revelations of his divinity in unique ways...sometimes quiet, sometimes powerful, sometimes in moments of pain, sometimes in moments of prayer, sometimes in moments of worship, sometimes via his word, but always beyond ourselves. God awaits his children to come unto him and the narrow gate is open....up to us to walk through it in humility and surrender. Only way is through Jesus Christ. ;)

The bible was written when they didn't even know of planets, thought the sun revolved around the earth, thought the earth was flat and that heaven was in the clouds and hell in the center of the earth.

look at the old painting and scripts. Our Father was a God yes but not what we think. All Religions speak of God. I think it was various visitors.

Yep, and this creepy rhetoric is the reason why religion will continue to divide, destroy and annilihate any culture that lets its claws grab hold and stay. MOS shows u what can happen when people allow themselves to be brainwashed. Man what a creepy statement, nothing can shake this shit from a poisoned mind. This is why people die over religion every single day and why it will continue until we are all gone.
-
How would finding life on another planet prove/disprove anything in the bible?
There's no scripture that states life is only found on earth.
This is correct. There also isn't any scripture that says there isn't life anywhere else in the universe.
I wouldn't be surprised if we find life in the universe, but I wouldn't expect it to be life that has a soul or is even soulish ("nephash" creatures in the hebrew).
I would expect simpler forms of life. Given that scripture indicates that all of God's creation was marred by the fall (via sin) it would seem that other life with a soul would be subject to God's law and therefore require Christ's redemptive act on Calvary's cross to make them righteous. In scripture it says because of God's creation people are without excuse. Despite God's creation extending to the entirety of the universe it is people that are human and humanity is that of earth.
Further, scripture states that "God loved the world so he gave his only Son". The word "world" is cosmos/kosmos in the Koine greek and refers to the world or universe by theological lexicon definition. Jesus nature is dual in that he is both human and divine and whose image is that of humanity (man) now and forever.....we alone are made in that image. That would seem to me that according to scripture other life in the universe would not be human and lesser than humanity not requiring Christ's redemptive act as they are essentially without blame (sin) and not subject to God's law. Further when Christ died on Calvary's cross prior to giving up his spirit he said "it is finished" or "tetelestai" in the greek. A more expanded translation of this greek is "it is finished (and nothing can be added to it)". That said, I wouldn't add (or take away) anything from Christ's redemptive work in that it was good and complete for humanity's sake alone.
Additionally, given that humanity is deemed greater in position than that of God's angelic host which resides with God outside of time and space that would seem to me that the angels are superior to other potential live in the universe (with the exception of humanity).
It's an opinion LOL.

God loves you too Thong Maniac ;); unfortunately for many in a state of unbelief "the word of the cross is foolishness". Yet where one sees an offense another sees grace. While you still have breathe it's not to late to seek grace my friend.

The bible was written when they didn't even know of planets, thought the sun revolved around the earth, thought the earth was flat and that heaven was in the clouds and hell in the center of the earth.
I'm not trying to nitpick you here, but today there's still so much about the universe we don't know, much like the Bible authors didn't know about planets. Off the top of my head I can't recall any scripture that refers the sun revolving around the earth, or the earth being flat, yet the was the predominant belief/ science at the time. Technically Christians still believe heaven to be in the "clouds" and the scientific community believes the earth to have a molten core at its center (fire and whatnot = hell).
I get why people don't like religious fanatics, and I understand how simple and closed minded religious people can be.
Croatch, Avxo and SF1900 , among many others here, have made some well thought out points in regards to religious nuts, and superstitions.
That said, and getting back to my main point the bible speaks of angels and demons (living beings) coming from heaven (an area where angels reside that's not of the earth, that the book of revelation offers dimensions of, something a smaller planet).
It's preposterous and foolish to insinuate that the authors of the Bible didn't believe in life on other planets, and a discovery of such wouldn't and shouldn't destroy a faith but only reinforce it.

Anyone ever see Mission to Mars with Gary Sinese and Don Chedel? Great movie, and the end tries to explain our beginnings and that we came from Mars. Awesome movie, it's in my top 20.

The men or people who wrote the bible absolutely did not "believe" in other life out there, as they probably had no idea or concept that the balls of light in the sky might be what we now call "planets". To them, earth or their world was the only world possible or imaginable and known.. Unless im wrong, 2000 years ago, there was no concept of "planets" to humans at that time

I respectfully disagree, based on the simple fact that these men communicated with a God/ divine being that according to their scripture states ( Isaiah 66:1)
This is what the LORD says: "Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Where is the house you will build for me? Where will my resting place be?
This people had an awareness or a belief in something greater than their self that was not of this world. It's the whole basis of their faith.

Nasa scientists find evidence of flowing water on Mars
Liquid water runs down canyons and crater walls over the summer months on Mars, according to researchers who say the discovery raises the chances of being home to some form of life.
The trickles leave long, dark stains on the Martian terrain that can reach hundreds of metres downhill in the warmer months, before they dry up in the autumn as surface temperatures drop.
Images taken from the Mars orbit show cliffs, and the steep walls of valleys and craters, streaked with summertime flows that in the most active spots combine to form intricate fan-like patterns.

You said they didn't believe in other life out there, I showed you text from the book of Isaiah, estimated to be written around 700 bc, that states their God, who is not a human and who they believe all life comes from, doesn't live on nor is from this earth/planet.
Their very faith is in the belief of some other nonhuman living being not of the earth.

I highly doubt its drinkable water. Meaning it would be useless for all the life forms that inhabit the earth.
So why would it be classified as water (as we know water to be)?
Might as well drink bleach.

You said this..".It's preposterous and foolish to insinuate that the authors of the Bible didn't believe in life on other planets, and a discovery of such wouldn't and shouldn't destroy a faith but only reinforce it."
And i answered by saying there was no concept of "planets" at that time. They were just blinking lights in the sky. Humans/primates did not know those were what we now call planets.
Your trolling me or you are not understanding basic questions/comments. You are complicating an other wise very straight forward discussion

Mr Shizzo, when searching for life on other planets one of main things they look for is liquid water. The life forms they are looking for are microscopic and would be living in the water.
I know many on this site don't believe in evolution, but here's what evolution says. Life on earth started 3800 million years ago as Bacteria. It took another 3000 million years for that bacteria to evolve into Protozoa which is a single cell organism. The first multi cellular organism, the sponge, developed 250 million years after the Protozoa.
All life on earth today evolved from single cell bacteria, which is the type of life form they're looking for on Mars.

What makes them think that all planets evolve in the same fashion? All of the planets in our solar system contain different atmospheric conditions, elements, and weather. Why would they compare it to how earth formed, and why do they pretend to know how potential alien life evolves?

You are correct, but the only model we have for life is what we see on earth. Scientist want to discover life on another planet to see how it's different.
Life on earth does not require oxygen to live, but it does require water, which is why the Mars discover is so important.
-
They are still trying to cover it up, but NASA also found an ancient seated calf machine on Mars.....
mars was a beautiful man, with beautiful calves. This is to be expected.

it's crazy to think that all the life on this planet could have come from gum on the bottom of an aliens shoe... one little bacteria created it all.
Or worse, some alien stopped in for a quick fap, and his jizz ended up spawning all life. Badass.

This reminded me of the scene from The Goonies, where they ask for water and she gives them glasses of liquid, when they say it's not water, she says "it's wet ain't it?".

Rush Limbaugh pans evidence of water on Mars as part of 'leftist agenda'
Flowing water on Mars? That’s just part of the liberal agenda, Rush Limbaugh says.
The conservative radio talk show host addressed NASA’s announcement on Monday that it had found evidence of flowing water on present-day Mars, and — spoiler alert — he doesn’t believe it.
“OK so there's flowing water on Mars. Yip yip yip yahoo. Hey, you know me, I'm science 101, big time guy, tech advance it, you know it, I'm all in. But, NASA has been corrupted by the current regime,” Limbaugh said on his show, according to |Media Matters]. “Don't know how long it's going to take, but this news that there is flowing water on Mars is somehow going to find its way into a technique to advance the leftist agenda.”
Limbaugh said that although he wasn’t entirely sure what the agenda was, he was going to “assume it would be something to do with global warming.”

Personally, I don't think sending man to the moon was a waste of money because it was too expensive in 1969. On the other hand, things like the Hubble telescope and the Mars rover have been well worth the money.
