I'd like to see a monthly or even weekly format in which we (the People) ask the candidates questions which aren't unfairly filtered and controlled.
Each answered question is allowed some follow-through.
A session lasts a couple of hours on the same day each week (preferrably) or month, for perhaps a year or more. A record is kept in realtime, including all rejected questions.

Not a bad idea....but only the people who truly keep up with politics would watch and ask the questions

Yes, and those same people don't have any way to ask shit right now. So it would be a huge step forward.
As for who'd watch, I think it would build a huge audience. Once the candidates started getting put on the spot.. it could become very popular. And when certain candidates get their bullshit exposed in crash-and-burn style, it could turn into one of the hottest shows ever.
Each week would be better than the last, because we'd learn which directions to head with the questioning.

This is essentially the town hall format, which they don't do nearly enough.

That is extremely tight in filter. Some interest strictly controls the information presented.

I agree it is still screened and filtered, but there has to be some control over the process. Otherwise it would come out like the typical "debate" we see on opinion shows where people are talking over each other.

Yes. Only one person at a time. That's where the real-time record would be useful in keeping track of what's actually addressed vs. what is not.
In fact, in this current environment with the current gang we've got running, we'd undoubtedly learn more from the things they'd try to escape answering, than from anything else.
But they'd know it's only going to cause the question to stick until it's handled. There would be no more running from us under cover of the false media.

Man, I would love to nail some of these fuckers to the wall.

I think you might overstating things just a bit. Any process is going to have problems. For example, what happens when someone asks a stupid question? What happens when a candidate gives a mealy-mouthed answer to a good question? Unlimited follow-up? Could become like a free-for-all.

Unlimited follow-up in a single session? No, for obvious reasons. A person running needs to know how to explain a point without making a speech. Making speeches means you hope people forget what the question is. That's not going to work in this format.
As for responses, a candidate can handle himself or herself any way at all. And/but we'll make our decision accordingly.

Overall, I agree.
-
Very first thing we'd learn is that most of the candidates are unprepared and clueless. That would be the initial shock.
-
Who would dislike it most? I think Hilary. A combination of being slippery and having the most to lose by it.
Bush, too, but he doesn't have as much to risk (according to the polls).

Hillary is in trouble.

Hillary is in trouble.
bernie reached the million donor mark faster than obama did.
hilary 24 million, sanders 20 million $ in donations. Crazy.
-
I think Bernie may have the most to gain, Hillary the most to lose.
But it's hard to say without it happening. We're forced to remain in the dark, comparatively speaking.

That is interesting. I didn't know. Is it because Obama wasn't considered a serious contender, at first? (I guess the same could be said about Bernie, though, too.. yeah, that is very interesting info.)

Hannity's show was very interesting today. He knows his audience loves to talk shit about hilary... but he's rather complimentary about the socialist Sanders. He kept dropping little tidbit like this about how Sanders is closing, and all the parallels between 2008 obama and 2016 sanders.
IMHO, repubs should be HOPING they're not up against sanders. Hilary can be beatable. sanders has way less baggage.

any time in the past, i would have strongly disagreed. i would have thought bernie wasn't a serious candidate. but right now, i think his message could catch on if he's able to explain himself and make it count against his opponent. crazy as it sounds, i really think it's true.
referring to himself in the past as a socialist wasn't a smooth move, though. he should have used independent to be on safe side, since it covers all else anyway... why wouldn't you use it. but i'm sure he's already stressed himself over the years on that one.

I don't like him spending $18 trillion to buy out everyone's student loans, give out free college and medical.
BUT BUT BUT Trump plans on spending $12 trillion - to make it so everyone making 25k or under (or couples making under 50k) pay NO TAXES.
Personally, I'd rather go ahead and pick up my PhD in business or maybe a law degree, my MBA debts could be forgiven. Trump's policy doesnt help me. And he is only spending a little less. So of those two evils, I'm personally affected in a positive way more by bernie - ALTHOUGH I don't like either of them.

good points on everything.
actually, trump is the other guy i was thinking might like this format... he would need to step up his game, though, and commit to answers. joking would be great but it wouldn't get him much past the first week.

the people supporting trump are caught up in his celebrity.
they dont care that he flipflops, or will raise the debt by 12 trillion, to bribe the poor to vote for him. He's obama.
they love his rude attitude, that's it.

See, that's what I mean... The number of people like this would diminish week by week. I can't imagine a better way to sort through candidates.

Then WHAT would the journalists do? :D

Sanders is a Socialist. He'll get killed in the general election and quite frankly, he can't match Hillary's war chest

He's a socialist but he would probably never be able to get a socialist agenda through congress...he COULD get elected however...I think most Democracies evolve into socialism anyway..look at all the Eurpean countries
socialism does have its advantages however....look at Europe..almost everyone is guaranteed 6 weeks vacation every year....do you know what I could do with SIX WEEKS VACTION???????
Norway is going to a SIX HOUR WORK DAY.....wow!

obama was a socialist too. obama had many dems voting against him due to skin color, and admitting it on CNN. Obama had FEWER donors at this point last time. Obama had a TON of things working again him.
I always want the most liberal to run against the most conservative - that's how we get meaningful change in the USA. But I agree, hilary has been wanting this for a long time, she will likely win it. Bernie isn't easy on the eyes and would need a STELLAR debate performance to do anything but steal 1-2 states.

6 weeks vacation is pretty sweet.
You Americans would like it.

Exactly.....we Americans have been brainwashed that taking vacations is being lazy.....in America, two weeks is the norm and four weeks is amazing

Many people would not cast a vote for someone who has called himself a socialist, even with everything else damned. That's a problem for him, no question.

Yet the wealthy are on full-time vacations. Real fucking funny how that works.

Good point...totally agree ;)
