I think he looks pretty nice. He seems to understand the importance of well fitting clothes and not looking sloppy. He looks so much better with hair on his head and face

He looks terrible in most clothing, as do the vast majority of IFBB pros.
What purpose does bodybuilding serve, when you end up not being able to look good in most forms of clothing and aren't even doing something that actually helps to improve your overall health.
What's worse, we've seen what guys that are as big as Phil do when they go to public pools or beaches, they typically sit/stand in a corner (by themselves), pretend to stand there relaxed, but in reality are flexing their muscles as hard as they can, while people try their absolute best to ignore them or leave them to their own machinations.
This is what happens to them... :'(

Fast forward to the 1:39-1:45 mark and notice how the average girl simply looks over to Robert, as if noticing a caged animal in the zoo and then turns back to the standard, beach-ready guys.
It's just too much. It simply starts to look grotesque after a certain point and you no longer have bodybuilding, but a form of body dysmorphic disorder, in which you think everything has to fit a certain mold and you can't stop until you attain that goal, regardless of how foolish it looks to just about everyone else.

Would that I could look as good. I think this is in Chicago on Lake Michigan prior to (or after) his victory in the Mr. America.
Women loved (and still do) Steve Reeves. The same holds true for Bob Paris although he never reached the stature of Reeves, Paris was very popular with nearly everyone.

I think he looks better than many of the bodybuilders I've met over the years when he puts on clothes. He at least tries to look nice when he goes out.
I will say that when we saw him at an event a lady who was with the group was disappointed that "Mr Universe" as she called him did not look like the strippers that go to the gym. She was unimpressed. Guys like Bradley Martin, Joe Donelly, and others look great in street clothes and are more appealing to women.
This is a good overall post. I always have to laugh at the guys who would make sure to flex or get right in front of me to do curls to show off. It's not that hot and very annoying when trying to have a conversation with someone. I always wrote those guys off.
I also agree that most of these guys have BDD, are extremely insecure, and want attention. You end up feeling sorry for them.

You nailed it OMR. The insular culture of bodybuilding has gotten so off track that the players don't even realize how bad they look now.

not true...someone like flex wheeler in his prime would amaze everyone because if the lines aren't showing only big guys who lift can appreciate the amount of muscle he has...but any bodybuilder in contest condition who doesn't act like a tool looking for attention will get many looks from people at the beach...an offseason guy by himself acting like a tool with a big belly will never get looks..yet people like you and me can admire the amount of muscle he has on his frame because we know better

Wheeler? Nah...Serge Nubret is a much better example. Superbly built with a handsome face. Wheeler was too ghetto in his ways. Would probably be grabbing his "package" all the time and saying dumb things like, "I gots to hold onto it, whitey done took everything else from us!".
Nubret was, again, superb. But bodybuilding is subjective so I do not blame you if you prefer Wheeler.
