Title: Tito/Forrest
Post by: torquemada on March 06, 2006, 04:15:20 PM
Alright, let's hear it.  Who likes who for this one?  Personally, I'm cheering for Forrest, but I'll be really surprised if Tito doesn't G&P him bad...

That's what I'm afraid of.  Forrest is the most likable guy I've seen fight in a long time; class act w/ all his opponents.  Tito...isn't.

I really hope Forrest takes this one.  It seems that most people want Forrest to win but expect Tito to take it.  I think they are underestimating Forrest.

I honestly believe, Forrest has as fighters chance!

He hits hard and can take a punch. After Tito lost to Lidell, everyone after ,has dropped Tito.  So Forrest needs to keep at it ,hang on and it will come !

Well fellows, i've been watching Forrest train with weights at my gym for a while in Vegas and his work ethic is like none I have ever seen.  I cannot believe his conditioning and with a Special Forces back ground, I think i'm qualified to assess someone.  I find it real hard to believe that Tito is training anywhere close to as hard as him.  I saw Forrest train for about an hour/half nonstop with weights going from one movement to the next, jumping rope, doing crunches, leg press, squats, lunges, shoulder press, etc. etc...back to back with no break non-stop sweating profusely!!!  This guy has the heart of a freakin lion.  I take Forrest in the third after Tito gets tired!!!!!!!!

Tito will win this I hate to admit it but is is true. I train with Deigo and he is real good but aganist GSP or Huges he would not win, not enough experience yet in a few years

I hate Tito, but he has been known to train for up to nine hours a day at big bear doing all the things you just mentioned plus some.  There is little chance that Forrest would actually win, but if he does it won't be because of Tito's conditioning.

im sure forest is training hard but make no mistake about it,titos cardio is second to no one,the only time tito gassed was against frank back in 98 or 99 and since then he has probably the best cardio in the game imo,i think it will be a good fight though

I'm with you on Forrest being hungry that's kinda why i'm going with him.  I gotta admit though, Tito seemed to have gained his confidence back by the way he spoke in the interview saturday night, you could just tell he was for real!  Either way, i'd take a pass with either one of them!!! ;D

Ditto. Hate Ortiz with a passion. And I think Forrest deserves the win more if not for his attitude and self-deprecating humor alone. And Forrest isn't stupid, he's training like his life depends on it because he knows IT REALLY DOES DEPEND ON IT! Tito may think it's an easy win so he's hanging back on his training a little....we'll see.

so your basing the outcome on three things .......

1....you've been readin generic accounts of his training (nobody say's their not trainin like it's thier last fight)

2....you don't like tito

3.... you don't like tito

My not liking Tito has nothing to do with my prediction that Tito will win. I have yet to see any evidence where someone's like or dislike of a fighter has influenced the fight.

why are you saying tito's not takin this fight seriously ?

Because I speculate that he thinks he knows he can win. And knowing you can win makes it harder to train with high-end intensity. If you know you are the underdog you are going to push yourself so much harder.

Tito is just such an ass monkey. Talk talk talk, blah blah blah, show boating and just disrespectful in the ring. However, given their experience Tito has the upperhand and you'd think he'd win it. I just don't think Griffen will make it easy, and a mistake on Tito's part could lose him the fight. Anything is possible.

you must be a TUF newbie! if you look at the griffin/bonnar fight .. griffin seemed to have ran out of gas in the 2nd round! i give him credit because he won ... but he still ran out of gas

how can u say that griffin's endurance is better than Tito's?

You maybe forgetting that Tito has gone the distance of 5 rounds with the likes of Randy Couture, Vanderlei Silva, and Vladimir Matyushenko!

tito's cardio > griffin's cardio

FORREST IS CRAZY, THE GUY HAS BROKEN HIS ARM IN A MATCH AND GONE ON TO WIN, I THINK tito has the experience and strength advantage, however i wouldnt say condition, tito has never had a long match, all the long matches hes had hes spent on his back or on bottom, not a whole lot of moement, hes a great staller. the randy match he got broken, i dont think forrest can be mentally broken he looks tuff, he has nothing to loose, if tito loses this its all over for him, so there both gonna be going into the match hungry, forrest wants to be legit and tito dosent want to fall off, im gonna say griffin, titos got a weak chin

you're another TUF newbie!

you say Tito doesn't have the conditioning? try spending 5 minutes rolling trying to ground and pound your opponent, trying pass guard/half guard etc, and trying to avoid any submissions, etc ... thats conditioning right there!

tito's got a weak chin? tito's fought the who's who in MMA ... he's only been knocked out once (and thats from the Chuckie, who can knock out King Kong if he wanted to) .. he's been tagged by hard-hitters such as Ken Shamrock, Vanderlei Silva, Vitor Belfort, Yuki Kondo, etc and he's never got knocked out by any of them!

tito's standup isn't the best but he's still good  ... he occasionally trains Muay Thai with Sol in Houston, TX and not to mention his corner man Colin Oyama! have you seen the standup with put against Ken Shamrock, now that some pretty impressive thai!

Whoever said Tito wont take this fight seriously is nuts.  He has aboslutely nothing to gain, and everything to lose... He wins, big deal he beat a Tuff "newbie".  He loses... It is basically over for him in the UFC, he'll be nothing but a gatekeeper (a really expensive one at that).  He can't live off his name forever, soon he'll actually have to start kicking ass again.
Title: Re: Tito/Forrest

As much as I don't like Tito, his conditioning is second to none and his chin is really solid.  Just look at the size of his head!   :o

Chuck's stand up is great.  He throws shots at odd angles with tremendous power.  If you look at top boxers (like James Toney), they don't always keep their hands up.  Look up Chuck's kickboxing record.  It is impressive.

After the full three rounds with Stephan Bonner I'd say Forrest has the endurance....maybe even BETTER THAN Tito. Hmmm.....

You are basing your argument around a sloppy B-level slugfest. Both Forrest and Bonnar looked stupidly tired in the last round of that fight, so I wouldn't even count the third round as full round.  Tito on the other hand went five full rounds with Randy couture (in a losing effort).  My point is, since Tito's fight with Frank Shamrock, he has not even shown a sliver of endurance problems.  Tito definately has the edge in conditioning, beyond the shadow of a doubt.  Normally I would wish a beating on Tito, but I want to see Forrest exposed already, I am tired of watching him have wars with B and C level fighters.

that wasn't my point, you NOOB! my point is that he went the distance all 5 rounds .. he didn't run out of gas, he was outsmarted by the better fighter, not "out-cardio-ed."

and why are you bringing up age? we're talking about Tito and Forrest .. not another Tito vs Couture

you are doing nothing but Tito Bashing!

we get the point, you dont like him as a person, now stfu .. but its ok i still wont kick you out of bed  ;D

Even though I'm bashing Tito, I still think he'll win. So it's not like I'm saying he won't win. But cardio isn't everything (cuz he still lost).

Point taken there re: 3 rounds versus 5. And given that I have to rework my opinion of each fighters level of endurance. Griffen/Bonner still ranked as one of THEE best in UFC ever. But you say you want Forrest "exposed" like it's a bad thing, though I can't "hear" your tone of voice. I think this is a great CHALLENGE for Griffen because he does need to fight someone who's big time and not B level. So I'm with you on that. He needs to EARN that contract money.

I can't believe you are basing this on our opinions of fighters. This thread has gone to shit and now I'm not really learning anything because you are hijacking this thread with your drivel. Instead of basing your opinion in fact you just resort to name calling like a 6 year old.

I would think a chick who likes MMA would be something cool. I'm eager to learn more but I'm just not getting it here with you.

Told you what?

He lost.

I gave my support for Forrest and y'all gave me crap about that. I said my money was on Tito, BUT that it wouldn't be a fast nor an easy fight for Tito. And that his cardio isn't as good as people on this thread think it is. He was mouth breathing like a m.f. after that first round. All Forrest had to do was survive it. And if they went two more rounds there's no way Tito would win.

Y'all said that Tito would hand his ass to him and that did NOT happen. And Forrest got Tito's, and the crowd's, respect after that fight. He really proved himself to be more than just a TUF newbie.

It would have been bad politics for Tito to lose to the new kid especially on his comeback fight. So that's an understandable judgement. However, this really gets the gears turning as to the strategy Shamrock is going to use. If all he has to do is survive the first round, he'll pummel Tito's melon because Shamrock can hit much harder than Griffen can...and I'm sure he's more accurate due to more experience in the ring. It should prove to be entirely intense.

Please define "ya'll" as a few of us here thought Forrest would do quite well.

y'all in this context refers to 80% of the participants on this thread. They were also the most emphatic and rudest of the bunch, which explains why they like Tito.

Tito will dominate

tito was gassed at 4 minutes in the first and he never got a second wind

great show and great venue there at the pond

arlovski and silvia was pretty anti climatic
