I couldn't agree more. You can't train 3-4 times a day while cutting (or not) and expect to come out with no injuries. BTW, I've called out Mike Doulce on many occasions for his bullshit cutting tactics. He's killing his fighters.
-
That heavy sparring leading to injury is a novel idea for Brian Stann, says more about him than about the sport as a whole.
Who ever thought it wasn't damaging?
To train full-on weeks if not months prior to a fight is simply stupid, and you don't see it in any other sport. Freak accidents/incidents can always happen. But quite frankly, in my opinion, a large amount of fighters have themselves to blame and should be fined for their stupidity.

Well, you can't really blame the fighters. They hire coaches for a reason. If they go against what the coaches tell them then it's on them. But on the other side of that, it's not uncommon for the fighter to walk all over the coach and do what he wants to do. At that point they just become "yes" men. In the long run it damages the fighter and the coaches reputation.

It is the fighter that hires a coach, only they themselves in the end can truly assess what they can or cannot do. A coach is simply there to assist them in reaching their potential, providing needed structure and to develop themselves further. There is indeed a fine line, as you yourself must know, between a good coach, a bad one, and a friend who just so happens to coach you.
Considering it is the fighter in the end who is in the cage, whose livelihood depends on success and prolonglivety in the sport, it is their end-responsibility to ensure they are healthy come-fightday. Those who in professional sports still haven't figured out the business-side of their branch, should have remained in their local bareknuckle fighting-ring.

Not that I'm aware but there are many ways to rid water without resorting to harsh diuretics like lasix (I'm assuming thats what you meant). Dolce has made a fortune scamming people and fighters. BJ Penn is suing the shit out of him and I think there there are more. As I've said before and the article concurs, MMA training and cutting is stuck in the stone-ages. The only time water should be cut is if the fighter doesn't listen and fucks around on his diet or if the person that did the diet is inept. Other than that, if the fighter knows he has a fight in 8, 10 or 12 weeks out there should be NO reason why he/she should have to resort to a water cut. I can't really think of a worse way to make weight.

You're a moron. 90% of all fighters cut 10-15 lbs in the final 24 hours before the weigh-in. Cutting the water is the only way to gain the advantage of having 10-15 lbs of added muscle. You think wrestlers are cutting 10-15 lbs of FAT the day before the NCAA tournament weigh-ins?

I think you missed the point, Coach is saying they should train/prep in a way (during the months leading up to the fight) that makes this unnecessary.
Cutting 10-15 lbs of water means you can be 10-15 lbs of total body mass heavier. Nowhere near 100% of that is going to be muscle.

There's no advantage if you're walking around at 170 for weeks and fighting at 170. Coming into the fight/match you're going to be outweighed by 15-20 lbs. If you think wrestling, boxing or fighting an opponent who outweighs you by 15-20 lbs is a good idea, watch this fight:

Why are you posting up boxing videos when we're talking about MMA and Gatti of all people? Are you just going by what you hear or do have any experience of working with fighters or wrestlers? If so, please qualify yourself in posting such nonsense.

coach i could have swore i read b.j penn paid that ass whipe 20k for 3 weeks of diet consultation! thats crazy.
dolce when he talks just sounds like a fake piece of shit to me, i know he was a failed mma fighter. i read his "dolce diet" nothing original there.
i cant believe all these mma fighters are paying him that kind of money just to cut weight. actually i dont evne know why some guys like johnny hendricks allows himself
to get up to 230 and then cut down to 170 thats crazy.
coach do you remember in the 80's when boxers used to have to weigh in the same day as the fight so there wasnt these huge weight gains going on .
-
Coach.....I agree.
You should get a job coaching USC football or something like that!
-
also cutting the much weight in a day just totall drains you , i really dont see the advantage of it.
i have dropped 10 lbs of water in a day and let me tell you i was drained i didnt want to do anything i couldnt imagine fighting like that.
-
Coach- Do you have an opinion on George "Loaded" Lockheart as an man diet guy?
