In Musclecentres thread I read he doesnt do cardio, he does high rep squats as cardio. Does this really work? If so how many reps and how many sets are considered cardio? I obviously need to lose weight and am doing a shit ton of cardio, but am curious about this as I love to squat. Appreciate answers

All you really gotta do is just focus on total calories and getting and then remaining in a caloric deficit. Nothing else matters really.

Cardio for the heart health right, not weight loss?
Doing 8x8 with 225 and short rest is pretty fucking brutal and will have your heart rate trough the roof but squats are really technical and if your form breaks down (which it might do with so many reps) it's easy to get hurt in such a fatigued state

x2
That would be brutal no more than 90 sec rest

Walking lunges with a bar on your shoulders is way better IMO. Way more taxing than high rep squats...

If you had success with what he had you do.
Stick with it.
Don't make what you do to complicated.
Listen to one Person only if you like- agree with what they
Say & Give Them / Their advice a fair crack & time to work.
If you ask to many people likely you'll end up going not very far.
As it's often contradictory & or confusing.

the food craved you works both ways . Try to be more stupid when good food is around works better than trying to outsmart it

Weighted Squats hit the anaerobic, glycogen system, hard.
Once a week, I do a long, slow jog of about five or six miles at an aerobic pace. At no point am I gassed.
Also, once a week, I do a five set squat routine: 20, 15x2, 12x2. By the end of the forth set, my mind is looking for excuses to not do the fifth. At the end of the fifth set, I'm completely blow up.
That said, squats won't help you with running. No matter how much you squat, if you don't run, you'll be gassed by 1/4 mile.

on day 1 I couldnt jog 30 seconds
now I can do a 12 minute mile, which I know isnt fast, but compared to 55 days ago its progress
I did 4 miles yesterday in 50 minutes

I would just stick with fasted masturbation

Jogging isn't about going fast. It's about developing the aerobic system. For humans, run all day pace is about 10 minutes a mile.

Joggin4 miles will put your appetite in overdrive the rest of the week

This is a huge key to dieting imho.
So many fatsos drink a shitload of liquid-calories.

I envy people who can do anaerobic things like squats for cardio.

My body comp improved massively with high volume. I stopped squatting 3 years ago cos kept getting injured. Will do 60/70 reps easy every workout and on leg day i do 20-40+ reps (whatever i can do til i feel i will die/get trapped under weight) often for a few sets.
High rep squats overtaxed my lower back more than my legs though. Might work for some not for me. Same with deadlift. High reps means loss of concentration loss of form and risk or injury. Do what feels right and do it well.
-
I stopped doing back squats about three years ago, they just never "felt" right and I would sometimes get very bad headaches after high-rep sets.
It is too bad, I really liked 20-rep squats.
Still do front squats though, once or twice a week.

The headache thing happened to me twice on leg day in my life. It scared me the first time it happened, as I was almost blinded. Crazy shit.
As far as squats for cardio, I'd think it would make sense. I always got more winded from squats than any other muscle. Intense back workouts were a distant second.

The heavy breathing is a result of lactate buildup which has to be removed via increased blood circulation. This is anaerobic. During aerobic exercise your breathing is only slightly labored.
A squat done at a brisk pace takes about 2 seconds. So, even high rep squats don't take enough time for your aerobic system to take over from the anaerobic.
Squats are a great exercise for lower body development and overall toughness, but they're not aerobic.
-
I do lunges for "conditioning". ::)
It does get pretty f'ing brutal.

I'd suggest finding something similar to what you can live with.

Can you commit to a version of that diet forever? If not you're likely to regain any lost weight.

It's always a mix. The more reps you made, the more aerobic the movement becomes.

Happend to me a few times, pain in the back of my head/headaches, could actual feel a pulse banging away.. I usual cant strain for a few weeks after or it comes back, usualy a result of pushing too hard
-
i used to be obsessed with keeping my heart rate up, breathing hard, etc. while lifting.
once i kept cardio (cycling) and lifting (heavier, more rest) separate, i started enjoying both a lot more. in short, there's enough to focus on while lifting, without having to worry about getting "cardio" in as well. i don't recommend it.

i got these exertion headaches a couple times. i stopped eating a dozen eggs a day, and they went away. not sure if related ;D
scary as hell... i went from being the most workout obsessed person on the planet to thinking "i'm going to have to take up running, i guess" in the span of about ten seconds.

This is a pretty good short primer on energy systems.
