The Good Ole Book says to “give honor to whom honor is due.” But I’m guessing that memo didn’t get to the local Home Depot in Spokane, Washington.
When one of our heroic military veterans showed up to purchases some supplies, he showed his ID to receive a veteran’s discount.
I can’t believe the shocking response from the manager at Home Depot. This is disgusting!
David Carleton posted this on facebook:
So I am at Home Depot today and the older gentleman in front of me shows his ID for a veterans discount. The clerk tells him he does not qualify for a discount so the gentleman asked to see a manager. They ask me to go to another line because this may take a few minutes. I tell them no thanks I want to hear this.
So a young cocky full of himself moron comes to talk to the gentleman and says no you do not qualify. The gentleman tells him he has always gotten a discount there. So the moron says well we have told our people to tighten the rules and we only give what corporate requires we give and you do not qualify. The gentleman says he will then take his business elsewhere. The young moron replies that is your choice. The gentleman starts to leave and I step in.
I tell the moron if one of your idiot friends walked through the door right now you would have the option of giving him a discount and with your attitude you would do it. So step over to the register and give this guy his discount. He says he does not qualify for it.
So I tell him look here is how this is going to work. Either you give this guy a discount and I call Home Depot corp and tell them how good of a manager you are in spite of the stupid policy.
Or I go home call Home Depot corp tell them I stupid the policy is and their manager is a moron, then I blast face book and it goes viral and you get to be the moron you are.
I think you know which one he chose!
So people please blast Facebook with this story.

What a shmuck, he also told the gentleman that he would have to talk to the CEO of Home Depot to change his mind.
I hate people who do not respect our military.
BLOW IT UP PEOPLE
I just can’t believe how HORRIBLE Home Depot just treated this veteran! We have lots of respect for David Carleton for standing up for the amazing veteran. We’re praying our hero gets the proper honor that he deserves and Home Depot shows him a right “thank you” for his years of service!

Home Depot does moslem sensitivity training in Michigan. They lost my business long ago. I would like to know though, why they said he didn't qualify. Was he a reservist, or retired? There shouldn't be a difference, military discount should apply to those who served.
-
If that happened to a Muslim veteran, there'd be a White House invite waiting for him by the time he got home.

Spokane Valley is at least 400kms from civilization in Vancouver. What do these people expect?

Home Depot and Lowes gives an everyday 10% discount to active and retired military members only. On Vets, Memorial, and July 4th weekend, all military can get the discount....no use in yelling at the employees who are just doing their job because they have no say or control over it.
Manager's will usually give a courtesy one time discount but future ones will be likely told to kick sand.

to all active, reserve, retired or disabled veterans and their family members with a valid military.
all other military veterans will qualify for a 10% discount in your area during Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Veterans’ Day.[/b]
Besides active, reserve, retired or disabled, what other type are there?
-
Veterans should get respect, proper treatment from the government they served, etc. What they shouldn't get is a hardware discount. Wtf does fighting overseas have to do with the price of lumber?
It's a stupid policy in the first place. Of course it's doubly stupid to have it and then not honor it. They undoubtedly started it since advertising as being veteran conscious is business savvy and now the whole thing has backfired and it's now impossible to remove the policy without looking like complete assholes. So take your cynically implemented false patriotism profit motivated policy and suck on it.

Retired means you did 20 or more years, disabled means you were forced to retire like Navy-Mike (snicker).....that's leaves the vast majority of everyone else who served including myself

Ignoring this one incident i do not get how you can have military flyovers at ballgames (the fuel alone would cost a bomb) then treat ex servicemen shittily with mental health services, health issues etc. They are not all heroes but if each cruise missile costs 18m dollars surely you could give them some welfare, regardless of how corporations treat them.

How many veterans does it take to change a burnt out lightbulb with a new one, puchased at a discount?
Yeah, that's right. You don't know, man. CUZ U WEREN'T THERE.
-
I don't see the issue here. If he doesn't qualify he doesn't qualify. If he does qualify then Home Depot screwed up.
Does navy Mike get the military discount?

Haha, excellent work.
This bloke probably had a good look around when he pulled out his military ID, hoping that everyone could see that he once stacked rations for 9 months in Camp Leatherneck. Absolute ballbag.

Newsflash: Navy Mike stops shopping at Home Depot.

Why should they get any sort of discount? From what I've gathered over the years, your government refuses to properly take care of veterans, so now you want to go all socialist and force private business to make up the difference? Ridiculous. Veterans were civil servants under contract with the government, so the government should take care of them.
