It was almost five years ago. Let it go. You can't associate every coach to something that happened.....five years ago.

Reputation will always be tarnished.

Paterno did the bare minimum to report the abuse and was complicit in many aspects of the scandal.

Former FBI director Louis Freeh and his firm, including a team of former federal prosecutors and FBI agents, were hired by the Penn State Board of Trustees to conduct an independent investigation into the scandal.[84] In the opinion of writer Michael Sokolove, the mission Freeh was given seemed to presuppose that Sandusky's crimes were not his alone and that people who had reason to suspect him had looked away.[85] After interviewing over 400 people and reviewing over 3.5 million documents, the independent investigation team reported that Paterno, Spanier, Curley and Schultz had concealed Sandusky's actions in order to protect publicity surrounding Penn State's celebrated football program.

Wow, 5 people covered up the child rape going on?

Disgusting.   I thought they'd end the program.  Tough when the longtime coach covered it up.  I guess joepa put winning before children's welfare.

They should adopt the motto Never Forget, not let's get this behind us.  And what should not be forgotten isn't just the kid stuff, it's the cover up and abuse of power.

They should be proud to tell the world to use them as a shining example that shows how crooked establishment types are willing to let anything go to maintain their status.

No one will ever forget, especially the trolls who derailed a thread and started something completely different than what the thread was intended. He doesn't even watch sports.

Look I'm way more blue and white than the next guy, but he has a point, the three administrators haven't been sent to jail.  They covered it all up.

That's the injustice.

What's even stranger is that there were actual Penn State fans who continued to support Paterno, despite the fact that he turned a blinds eye and did the bare minimum to stop the abuse. Why would fans continue to support Paterno? Very strange.

Probably, but five years later trolls are still bringing it up. So what should be done five years later? Abolish the athletic program, give it the death sentence? All of you realize that SF just trolls, right?

Too many crazy Americans love football more than they hate pedophiles.

This.

Americans would rather back a person who contributed INDIRECTLY to the danger of children, than turn their backs on Joe Paterno.

What would posses any person to continue to support Paterno? Is football really that important to them?  ??? ??? ???

Michael Jackson was never arrested so it's not only football fans.

Agreed. I was just using football fans as an example since the topic is about Penn State.

But, you're right, anyone with power and money can avoid prosecution.

What makes Penn State more scary than the Michael Jackson cases, was that Penn State is an extremely large institution, in which people place great trust and care in these sort of institutions. A scandal of such magnitude existing in such a LARGE institution is extremely baffling. Yet, they were able to get away with it for so long.

The richer you are in USA, the more severe crimes you get to commit without penalty.  It is a strange system.

Not sure if this is also found in "Europe" or places like China/Japan/Russia.

No, I'm not Catholic. But one thing proven on here is whether you're a PhD or a PhD student staying on track is impossible on here. Three different topics inside of a two page thread.

Everyone gets a cut-lawyers, judges, etc.

This is why sport stars RARELY ever receive jail time. The average person would definitely receive jail time if they did some of the things that sport stars did. To a certain extent, sport stars are above the law (obviously not in extreme crimes like murder or something).

I'd like to see them move on, but only AFTER those three administrators go to jail.  Right now they are still tying it up in the courts so they do t have to pay the piper.

Yup, but at the same time you can't keep tarnishing the current program with current and incoming athletes by keeping this going.
