I heard a radio doc the other day that said Gorby was the greatest man of the 20th century who changed the world for the best. Hmm ok.

Saw klitschko fight in 2009 in Germany... the fight where Haye pulled out (quelle surprise) and he fought some ukranian. Jab jab jab... guy's face was fatter than an ifbb pro off season by round 10. Not a box office fighter but he is best of era in HW. Had Lewis beat til he got cut, one unlucky KO v Rahman i think it was. Otherwise he has just broken down every opponent.

Wasn't his defeat due to a shoulder injury and he had to retire?, his younger brother is the better boxer but he's the tough cun.t.

They would both give any heavy a good fight in any era

You're getting the bros mixed up. Wlad fought Chagaev in 2009 after the Haye fight was cancelled but it was Vitali who fought Lewis.
Wlad beat Rahman a few years back. It was Lewis who lost to Rahman.

Correct.

Vitali had Lewis beat hands down, but they called the fight because of that cut over his eye.

Lewis retired shortly after instead of having to go against Vitali again... He knew he couldn't beat him.

He's the reason heavy weight boxing is dead.  No one wants to see him jab his way to another point win.

Only 20% of his wins were on points.
He's actually the only reason why the HW division has managed to maintain a level of respectability over the past decade unless you enjoy watching the likes of Ruiz and Valuev holding the belts. ::)

Yes he did.

Vitali was mauling him and Lewis had a lucky shot where Vitali got cut because of Lewis' glove catching by the ties over Vitali's eye.

Everyone who watched that fight knew who had that fight won if it went the distance.

That's why the powers that be made sure the cut was good enough to stop the fight. In their eyes.

Couldn't have Lewis go down like that.

He gave Lewis a good go, Lewis was loading up on him as the fight went on tho

The Lewis-Vitali fight was pretty interesting. Both fighters took the fight with short notice after Lewis' original opponent (Kirk Johnson) pulled out with an injury.
Vitali started the fight like a train and really, ought to have put Lewis away in the first 3 rounds. The glancing jab from Lewis which opened the cut changed the course of the fight and Lewis started to get into his rhythm. The uppercut from Lewis in the 6th round would have dropped a horse but Vitali remained standing.

By the time of the stoppage, I would say that Lewis looked the most likely victor having won the previous 2 rounds although both men looked gassed.

Shame there was no rematch since it was have put any debates to bed.

Then the question is, Why did Lewis decide it was time to go?
My opinion is that Lewis didn't think he could beat him.

You can never win, there's always someone you haven't fought who will say you'd rather retire than fight, or an ex opponent wanting a rematch

He fought everyone put in front of him and retired on his terms while still at the top

I think Lewis was finding it difficult to stay motivated and continue boxing at the time. He came in overweight for that fight and was becoming increasingly complacent in training.
I'm not saying he would have beaten Vitali for sure but if you re-watch the fight, you'll see that Lewis was coming on strong at the time of the stoppage. Both guys looked like they were struggling to stay standing though.

8) ::) LL wasn't out of shape and it was actually VITALY who was coming off both a BACK and Rotator cuff surgeries . The cut was a fluke and made worst by KLITS own cutman . Only for that LL would have been KO-ed . Remember LL was going to actually sue TYSON for a rematch  and had promised to fight both brothers ? He was aging like fine wine ( remember ) He passed up on 40 million dollars ? he knew he wasn't winning the second fight after watching KIRK get dismantled
