Bet the cop's family doesn't regret that he decided to shoot first.

Law of the land, you carry a gun, you better shoot first.  If I get into an argument with a guy carrying an unconcealed gun, whether he intends to use it or not I'm going to shoot  him first.

Good shoot. This isn't the old west where you have to wait for the other guy to draw first before shooting him. He reaches for a gun and its lights out.
