Not sure, but rumor is he personally oiled up each one of them beforehand.  One guy asked why he needed to be oiled up under his tights and Weider told him it was principal #124 of his so the guy obliged.

Amazing how one man turned his unusual passion (fetichism?) into a whole industry...
I remember seeing this pic of Hide and other bodybuilders shirtless in his office and he's sitting there watching...
