I know Art is important but this is just plain stupid.

"Reclining Nude," the century-old painting by Amedeo Modigliani, sold for $170,405,000 at a Christie's auction on Monday.
There were five bidders for the work and the auction lasted nine minutes. The Long Museum of Shanghai, founded by collectors Lui Yiqian and his wife Wang Wei, is the new owner of the painting.
This is the second-highest price for a painting sold at auction. Christie's had hoped the painting, made in 1917 and 1918, would fetch $100 million.
Yes. Would hit Raw No Condom.

What a bunch of morons to buy that shit. Not even sexy, nothing special about it, yet it's "art". I never understood art or how some shitty as pics can be worth so much.
Bunch of patchouli perfume wearing turds with too much fuckin' money if you ask me.

do they have access to porn in China? If not, then it would explain the price for this crap.

That's a textbook example of nice neat pubic hair on a woman.

a real 'masterpiece' ::)

After going to art shows you'll quickly realize there is no intrinsic value in art. Also, for laypeople like many of us, it's hard to appreciate what makes some paintings more valuable with just a cursory glance...
But I agree, 170 million is bullshit. I would rather see that redistributed to the lower class so it can be blown on quik-e-mart smokes and scratch-offs.

True. I'm never hungry, not a whole lot of stress but could be much more established at my age. But people are never happy anyway, so meh...

Should it turn out that painting was made by someone else...say a pupil of the painter, then usually at least 95% of the "value" disappears overnight....art market is for fools. Giant financial bubble thanks to central bank's free money...

imagine how many Getbig accounts they could buy with that money. Basile, Falcon and Kwon_2 accounts in your possession just after the wire transfer goes through. :o

Which you don't have any of, hence the bitterness.

Try to explain "art" to me.
Hermann Nitsch from Austria:
His "art" consists of throwing animal blood (mostly from pigs or cattles) with a bucket on a white canvas.
His "paintings" are sold for around 200k - 450k (depending on size). If I'd do the same they'd put me in a mental institution.

They did put him there along with prison for a long period of time. The art that sells for that much was done at a time when it was illegal. Newer works go for much less

That's the castle he bought from his "art". No, I'm not shitting you, he lives in a castle, and all he did for a living was throwing cow blood with a bucket on a white canvas.

Of course they have no intrinsic value, they are investments (hedge funds are big buyers and sellers), signs of wealth to show off and also for money laundering.
I would love to expand more on that last point but it would be dodgy to say names. Suffice to say certain people receive gifts of art as a form of bribery, same as expensive bottles of wine and whiskey (now being acted against in China) have been used to "smooth" business transactions.

It's not about what you do, it's about your ability to sell it. Throwing animal blood on canvas is as much art as Apple products are advanced engineering. You can label it "art" "design" "trend" "swag" "catchy" "mind blowing technology" whatever. Sell it! (if you can)
