Title: GnR Reunion: Anyone Care?
Post by: The Ugly on November 14, 2015, 09:37:39 PM
Can't say I do, not with Axl's voice as is. But seems it's happening:

http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/report-reunion-tour-of-classic-guns-n-roses-lineup-close-to-being-revealed/

Appetite was lightning in a bottle, no question, hit me as hard as any record ever. But not much of a legacy - almost gotta One Hit Wonder the sumbitches; album-wise, anyway.

So, what about it?

I'd rather see the original band but with only Myles Kennedy singing. Axl was done a long time ago, and he's an grade A a-hole.

Could you imagine Steven Adler and Axl on the stage at one time?

I saw them in 2012 in Hollywood and Axl actually sounded decent. They would sell out every venue if this happens. I would by tickets. And they have more than 1 good album. Their whole catalog is pretty decent including Chinese Democracy

If Axl could still sing like this i'd pay any amount to see them perform. Fact is he can't sing anymore and looks like Keith Lemon, i saw Slash & Myles live and have yet to hear better.

I would have to pass.  Not much a fan back then or now.  I like Def Leppard more and they only have a few songs I enjoyed.  ;D

I pretty much associate GnR with the Dirty Harry film "The Dead Pool" that has  Jim Carrey's character lip synching to "Welcome to the Jungle".  It's not that GnR are bad, but I don't think I'd make an effort to see them at this point in my life.

'tGnR used to be one of my favorite rock bands in the late 80's. I wasn't particularly fond of their work in the late 90's.

Besides the fact that he looks very old and doesn't move at all like his old self, Axl has lost his voice completely. It wouldn't do the old GnR brand any justice to have them go out again.

Also, unless Slash and the rest of the original crew agree to do this, it's going to suck tremendously.

Axl can't carry this alone with his team of clowns (buckethead and the rest).

The whole point of the post, originals (Axl and Slash, anyway, maybe Duff) tentatively agreed. I'd never start a thread about Axl's goofy tribute band.

Ok, Lies was excellent, but more of an EP; Illusions should've been ONE record, lots of filler (and nothing that matches Appetite quality); Spaghetti was kinda fun, but certainly not amazing or significant.

Chinese D isn't GnR, it's Axl. And I could only stomach the first few songs. Voice is shot.

So what was the story behind Axl being able to retain the rights to the Guns and Roses name? Was he the only one raking in royalties all of these years?

Why on earth would the other band members sign off on that?

Obviously they all get paid back when they were together as a band, but what happened after Axl retained the GnR name, and everyone else left? I'm sure that the rest of Guns have not seen a dime off of all the tours that Axl has been doing with the band's songs.

I could be wrong, but I'm sure someone knows the details.

axl owns the name

but the royalties are split across the writing so the drummer gets shit

part of the reason they split up was axl tried to make slash an employee after they had signed the name over

axl was a dictator in the band -  the rest of them were so fucked up all the time they never noticed

id be surprised if slash would resign he hates him

unless he needs the money which is surprising his solo stuff is great and sells really well

id only go if its the original line up

That was my point. Why the hell would they sign over the intellectual property of the Guns n Roses name to Axl?

If anything, they should have kicked his ass out of the band. We have seen numerous examples of bands who continued to be successful with a different front man.

if you saw STP two years ago, it was not Weiland, but Chester. If Weiland was signing, then it was with his band called "Sctoo weiland and the wildabouts"

They came to MTL last summer I passed on going and the reviews were horrible. Scott sang for 45 minutes, was not moving much said he hurt his ankle in Quebec city the night before.

Sure....

This is nothing more than the Slash n Axel reunion tour. No one really gives two fucks about the rest of the band. As for making money, no rock bands really sell any records anymore so neither one has made money from royalties except from sales from their heyday catalog. The money is in touring and merch and that's where they'll clean up with this tour. How can Slash turn down an extra $15M?

from the record sales from when dave was in the band,   behind daves back.  dave found out sued and won .

Why anyone would give Axl one penny after he's been SUCH a crud human/performer for so many years is beyond me.

The turd can't sing worth a shit (his studio work was unique and compelling at one time, I admit), he's always making audiences wait ... and wait ... and wait, his extremely limited musical output since the glory days has been beyond underwhelming, his antics toward his ex-bandmembers (who are every bit as important to Guns' onetime monolithic success as Axl is) has always been deplorable ... etc., etc. etc.

Without exaggeration, the man is mentally ill and plagued with an enormous and destructive ego.

Screw W. Axl Rose.

that's fascinating.  Still, I'd rather see 2015 Fat Axl GNR version, than some new "rock" band like Brekaing Benjamin playing boring filler rock for 110 minutes.

It'd take a lot to get me to really go see any band.  I see pro athletes and actors, musicians a lot in naples playing resorts and events... they're more annoying than anything else.  Out of my way, I'm on break and have to pee, your 'entourage' to the urinals moves too slow.

I have been in proper singing training for a few years and what Axl did in his prime was phenomenal and would grind the shit out of my vocal cords in minutes.

I did get the karaoke track for November Rain but I haven't had the guts to have people in my house hear me ruin that for them :)

His versions aren't that bad in that vid.  01 he sang it clean without much distortion and seems to have gone back to that in 2014 and the fact is, if you don't distort high vocals, it can sound pretty rubbish - particularly when everybody is used to hearing that dirtier tone.  I thought he had lost it in 01, but that was a stylistic choice, it seems - because he sounded back to normal in 06.

it's funny seeing how they intro'd more backup singers along each step of the way.  By the late 2010s, the chorus is a 3 or 4 part harmony.

That's almost 25 years of screeching some seriously hard vocal parts.  In his prime, Axl was one of the best overall singers/entertainers we'll ever see.  he sang all that while running around like a madman the entire show.
