Title: NFL Football - Total Shit This Year?
Post by: Walter Sobchak on November 16, 2015, 09:35:19 PM
The teams suck.

The player talent seems way down overall.

There is a penalty called on almost every play.

The matchups suck.

The rivalry games are all but gone.

Except for Chris Collingsworth, the analysts suck.

Michelle Tafoya is horrifying.

The whole league has gone to shit and it is painful to sit and watch an entire game.

Anyone agree, or am I just missing the good games?

Giants Pats yesterday. Pats drive the field and win with a long field goal as time runs out.

I like Simms much better than Collingsworth.

Officiating sucks. They can't even determine what's a catch and what isn't. So many fucking rules for the refs to keep up with.

I agree with you on that.  Have to have a PHD to figure out calls! :-\

Very inconsistent when it comes to pass interference!

NFL is now watching over all the Footballs. Most teams were doing something to the Footballs. Now not so much and we are getting the effect of it.

Spot on, especially 1 & 3. The quest for parity has created a league full of 8-8 teams.

Even college football isn't good this year.

There are literally 2 good teams in the world: New England and Alabama. (And analbama lost to Ole Miss, absolute hot trash)

I can't believe that the Texans beat the Bengals last night. That redheaded quarterback for the Bengals is impressive. But I guess JJ Watt stopped him.

Yep.

Penalty on almost every play.

I can never remember seeing so many illegal formation penalties. It's like watching a game of Twister at Basile's house.

Funny you bring this up.  Just had the conversation this weekend.  People were over and the games were on and no one was watching when in the past it would be everyone on the couch focusing on the games.  We started to talk about why no one was watching and they all said the same thing that they weren't interested in the matchups.

I think there are a lot of factors in play.

1. Injuries -  Ever since the NFL has cracked down on helmet hits there seems to a shitload of players out on injuries with mid section issues, ankle and knee injuries.  Now players are focusing their tackles on the more vulnerable spots on the body with least padded protection.

2. Refs - You cannot enjoy any big play anymore because you're anticipating a flag was thrown.  I am tired of a TD being called back by some retarded holding penalty that occurred across the field and away from the play that had zero impact on the score. Just stupid refs ruining the fucking game.  I think they're doing this on purpose to fuck the NFL.  They striked a couple years back and the NFL brought in scab refs to replace them and I think they are still bitter about it.

3. Goodell -  He is just not a likeable person

4. Patriots - Whether they cheated or not, the whole taint of it ruins the game.  Any sport when the integrity is questioned suffers from it.  Plus other than NE fans no one else likes them.

5. Fantasy - The NFL is now nothing more than a sport for gamblers.  The non stop Draft Kings and Fan Duel commercials are nauseating.  Watching the score ticker, they focus more on stats than they do the teams.

6. Poor player marketing -  Guys like Vick, Hardy, Rice, Mc Donald all need to be out of the league.  The NFL does a poor job of focusing on the good players.  I don't mean on the field good but good hearted.  There are a lot of positive role models, both black and white that do lots of good but the NFL barely promotes them.  The NBA does a great job showing the off the court stories of good things their players 2.

7. Military dick sucking - it's fucking nauseating how much military dick sucking the NFL does.  It turns out that when the NFL has a tribute to Salute the Troops they aren't doing this out of their hearts but the military pays the NFL to do this as marketing for them.

8. The country hill billy theme.  Why is every fucking NFL program intro song a country song?  Do they think all NFL fans are country folk?

9. The Breast Cancer awareness shit.  I can understand 1 game, but a whole month of the bright pink?  yet the NFL doesn't promote any awareness to diseases that affect men or the players on the field.

10.  The CBA.  The players negotiated less practices and more short and T-shirt practice and the shitty play on the field is directly correlated to it.

11. Lack of future super stars.  Brady is old and a dick, Manning is done, Rodgers is a bottom, Luck sucks shit, Russell is a religious nut.  Who is leading the NFL?  Who is the face of the NFL?

Solid post, especially the first point.

Regarding head trauma, there's been a lot of evidence presented to the league that padding on the outside of helmets could reduce trauma significantly, but the league doesn't want it because of how it looks.

As far as the face of the NFL, you saw him last night, JJ Watt.

The NFL a league where 68% are black loves to focus on the white players.  There are a lot of cool black guys that do a lot for their communities that you never hear about.  They love to focus on the thug blacks like Dez Bryant and Hardy and forget about the ones that are trying to make a difference.  There are a bunch of San Diego Chargers that give out over a thousand Turkeys for thanksgiving to the poor.  NFL don't give a fuck to promote that.  They are too busy saluting the troops for money.

One of the most annoying things is how a big play happens and in the past you'd see a bunch of replays of it, now they cut to commercial immediately.

When the NFL has the Breast Cancer awareness month, they had over 500 items on their website for sale related to it.  only 8% of the revenue generated actually went to Breast Cancer research.  NFL using breast cancer to make itself more money.  They are fucking cock suckers.

And the Patriots--haha....It's funny how Brady has basically been turned into Alex Smith with a clever coach and the benefit of chronic cheating in every phase of the game.

That and a schedule against teams that are all sub 500.  Must be nice to have to play 4 games against the shitty AFC East.  Hey, they're winning.  Belickeck knows how to build a winner.  he even figured out a way to sub in offensive linemen during a game to keep them fresh.  this is unheard of.  Usually defenses do this but the O-line is pretty static but he thinks differently about all aspects and how to tweak it.  Funny though, as much as the Patriots cheat, they never broke any rules since the rules didn't exist at the time.

he had something like 6 TD catches last year.  More than most receivers on other teams had.  The guy is a beast.  Saw him in the post game interview and he makes Ray Lewis look like a midget troll when Ray himself was a beast.

Whenever he gives me a play breakdown, I always feel like saying, "No shit Collinsworth, I just saw that."

He was much better than an "average wide out" in his day.

He only played 8 years due to injury...4 1000 yard seasons and 989 in a 5th. 1000 yard seasons were huge in the 80s!

He was a pro-bowler, but he wasn't spectacular really. At least not in my mind. 3 pretty good seasons, but that's about it.

1. The fantasy side of things is annoying me more than the Coach with his right wing fagotry and Anabolichio ever did.  They need to ban those fan duel commercials, those things make me want to turn off the TV.

2. Why can't I pick which game that I want to watch (with out the NFL package)?  I am sick of getting games in my area that are more retarded that Vince Goodrum.

You're in USA where gambling is largely illegal though. Try watching football (soccer) here. Teams sponsored by betting companies, ad hoarding everywhere and ads with floating ray winstone heads pushing not only gambling but the ability to change your bet before the result (ie preying on gamblers' weakness). I know a couple of ex gambling addicts and they cannot watch sport anymore. Especially as every company, the government (srsly - tax free winnings), and sports team shoves it down your throat.

It's only illegal when the state isn't getting a big enough piece of the action. The NY Attorney General has a bug up his ass about Fantasy Football, meanwhile the state has a daily pick 3 numbers game that pays 500-1, but the odds of hitting it is 1000-1, a 50% takeout.

Only reason I'm posting in this thread is to agree with this.

Chris Collinsworth is a fucking tool. Sure, he knows football, he was an average Wide out when he played, but he's a fucking ego driven tool.

Whenever he gives me a play breakdown, I always feel like saying, "No shit Collinsworth, I just saw that."

Sunday night I watched the entire game with no sound just to avoid is mouth, it was a lot better.

I think Collingsworth is better than a lot of the shit they trot out there.

Once in a while John Gruden is okay.

I just can't stand the number of penalties that are being called.

Sounds like a lot of disgruntled Jets fans in this thread.

The Pats-Giants game was Super Bowl quality.

With such a short season compared to other sports, if you get a few games like that, there's not much to complain about.

I do agree fantasy is a bit much these days, but you don't have to get sucked into it if you don't want to.

For christ's sake the Packers lost to the Lions!

Patriots are 9-0. So far, the 2016 NFL season has been like McDonalds.

I'm lovin it.

Here's why NE can go undefeated.  Must be nice to have a shit schedule.

Remaining games and the quarterbacks they will play in their final seven games are Tyrod Taylor, Brock Osweiler, Mark Sanchez, Brian Hoyer, Marcus Mariota, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Ryan Tannehill.

It's very, very hard to go undefeated in the NFL. If the Pats go undefeated, you can't simply say, oh, they had a sh*t schedule. A few things go wrong in a game and it's very easy to lose. No sh*t team wants to lose. They want nothing more than to knock off the Patriots.

Fact:
Apart from the 1972 Dolphins, three NFL teams have completed undefeated and untied regular seasons: the 1934 Chicago Bears, the 1942 Chicago Bears, and the 2007 New England Patriots.

When the dice line up perfectly like they have for the Pats.  They got to face Dallas with their backup, Denver with their backup and basically don't play any other playoff team all season

Seems a lot of people feel this way.

Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports

1. Is quality of NFL play worse than ever?

This was said by Super Bowl-winning quarterback Trent Dilfer on ESPN this week: "The football has never been worse in the National Football League. The quality of product is horrific."

People like to hate Dilfer, but the truth is, he says some interesting things. And smart things. Like all of us, sometimes he's wrong and sometimes he's right. On this topic, I think he's right. It's a sentiment I've also heard expressed repeatedly by assistant coaches all season. I heard it again when I ran it by some coaches after Dilfer said it.

Many people across the league agree with what Dilfer said. Many, many people. The NFL is a mess.

Over-officiating has ruined the game plain and simple. There's a flag on almost every play and it has gotten to a point where you can't even celebrate a big play without scanning the field for a yellow flag first. It's fucking ridiculous how the refs can skew the outcomes of these games.

It's interesting that the refs are flagging more at the same time that Draft Kings and Fan Duel are all popular.  You don't think they're making some big money on the side?

Anything magnified becomes transparent as atoms are mostly empty space.  Hair, if magnified at the atomic level, would look like nothing empty light.

I have larger arms than you do and larger than you ever will, not to mention leaner.  That is something you are going to have to go through life dealing with, Not I.

No doubt. The holding call is the primary tool for doing so, as it can be called on every play, and can turn a big gain into a 10 yard loss.

I have no doubt that a group of refs are raking in cash on those daily fantasy sites.  The NFL would have to bury the story fast when they find evidence.

Looks like Manning will now be the backup.  If Denver is locked in at the number 3 spot I can see Manning playing the last game of the year to break the wins record but he's essentially done in Denver.
