Title: My biggest strength coach challenge yet.
Post by: Coach is Back! on November 18, 2015, 09:45:33 PM
Just been extended and offer that I took as the Strength and Conditioning coach for a football team that hasn't won a league GAME in 13 seasons.

Flame on!

I used to play for a rugby team in my teens that didn't win for two seasons. One season we didn't score a point.

It was a tad demoralising, so fuck knows what morale must be like after 13.

Maybe they need to be in a lower division or get a better coach.  Is there still a lot of interest in football at the school?

CIF doesn't allow recruiting. It's been damn hard to get athletes.

Fuck man... That first point scored must have been a hell of a feeling. Did your team have cheer leaders?

I told the head coach after losing for seasons, if they could win just ONE league game it would literally be history at that school.

Yeah, we scored at a tournament. Still lost the game though, haha.

You don't really get cheerleaders in Rugby. We were a bunch of scrawny council estate rats playing against Welsh "teenagers" who had full beards and weighed twice as much as us. Used to be a case of us kicking off, them scoring, rinse and repeat for the rest of the game.

Not a bad gig coach, if they don't win a game with you its no big deal, if they win one you will be fucking insufferable on here taking all the credit.

What drug protocol are you going to put them on?

Your typical high school athlete drug stack?

Being out of shape is why they've sucked that long?

That's delusional.

Not out of "shape". Just poor programming and planning when it came to strength, speed and movement. Will they win a championship any time soon? No, will they win some games? Yes.

I used to play ice hockey, I was on a team that got free skates, amongst other things, everyone wanted to be on the team because it was cool to be sponsored. (obviously we were pretty good too)

CIF prohibits recruiting (all though it's done) or individual sponsorship's.  The only way this particular program can be rebuilt is to start winning and attracting athletes that want to play for a winning team also develop the pop-warner feeder teams and athletes that will be incoming freshmen.

I agree but remember, I'm just the strength and conditioning guy. We have a great receivers coach that's a former LB Poly player, record holder (that I think still stands) at UCLA and former NFL wide receiver. It's actually a good coaching staff that was brought in last year from LB Poly. The problem is this school has lost for so long it's difficult to get the kids to buy into the program.

Good luck Coach.

As a NY Giants fan, I recall Super Bowl MVP Otis Anderson saying that he primarily practiced movements that would actually take place in the game, things like running around obstacles, and running with someone holding him, as opposed to drills like wind sprints or box jumps.

Canada's most famous high school football coach

He donated a bunch of equipment to the team but ended up getting fired. (for comments he made in the media)

After he was fired he demanded the equipment be returned to him  :D
