Title: Dog owners: beware of HGE (hemorrhagic gastroenteritis)
Post by: _aj_ on November 29, 2015, 07:42:00 AM
My youngest just got hit and she not out of the woods yet. Bloody diarrhea and bloody vomiting. Our vet sent us stat to the vet ER where she's been for 3 days now. IV fluids are critical early on. They did an exploratory surgery to rule out blockage. HGE doesn't have a proximate cause, so it's really about ruling out everything else.

This article seems to be the best at explaining it:

My dog had similar symptoms last year, thankfully it wasn't HGE but the vet ran numerous tests.

Hope your pup is better soon!

She's still not eating, but doing well otherwise. We are still hopeful we can bring her home today. All the other dogs and the cat are bored as they relied on Zoe to stir shit up.

You've been known to post some really stupid shit.  This is certainly towards the top of that list.

Just applying the standard Johnny Falcon filter renders that post invisible.

She's home. Really doped up and lethargic. She still hasn't eaten, but the vet thinks she'll do better at home. My wife doesn't work, so she can stay with the dogs.

If she doesn't eat in 48 hours then I get to worry (and take her back).

So far, so good. She's got a shit ton of medicine to take and she's drinking water. She's much happier being home. To keep her from trying to jump on the beds, my wife slept downstairs on the floor with the dogs while I got to sleep (that's a good woman). I bring home the bacon and she keeps the home fires burning.

She's now eating and holding the food down and her sisters are starting to agitate to play with with her. Good news, except she needs downtime for the next week. That's gonna be rough.
