93% of Americans want Federal background checks. YET...the republican shitbags in congress block the legislation from passing. Why? Because these republican politicians are BOUGHT AND PAID FOR by the gun manufacturing lobby and the NRA.
The mass shootings in America are completely out of control. We just had one at Planned Parenthood Friday, and another yesterday in San Bernardino. Regardless of the ideology or mental state of the perpetrators, the fact is they all have the same access to the same weapons. Cenk Uygur, Ben Mankiewicz (Turner Classic Movies), and John Iadarola (Think Tank), hosts of the The Young Turks, break it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.
"The rampage that claimed at least 14 lives in San Bernardino, Calif., isn't today's first mass shooting. Here’s news you probably missed: A gunman in Savannah, Ga., shot four people early Wednesday, killing a woman and injuring three men.
Police haven’t arrested a suspect, said Eunicia Baker, spokesperson for the Savannah Chatham Police Department. They also haven’t released the names of the victims. The local media barely acknowledged the murder: One local television station covered it in three paragraphs.
And the world spun on.
Then word broke that multiple attackers opened fire at a center for disabled adults in San Bernardino — a center that just hosted its holiday party yesterday.”

a lot more murders take place every day in abortion clinics
-
I suppose it goes without saying but needs saying all the same.
Libtards are fucktards that refuse to make the punishment fit the crime and would rather bend justice to fit their sensitive new age (im)morality than break the criminals by actually punishing them as they deserve.
If you don't want a gun then by all means, do not buy one. Simple.

I was just gonna make a thread about this. Im confused why republicans dont want background checks? I love guns and want as many checks as possible. This issue confuses me evwn more so than republicans who refuse to give up christian wizardry ensuring zero young college age voters vote for them

Im being facetious but does that thinking not give Saudi Arabia the right to say fuck off when they behead and stone adulterers and chop off the arms of thieves? Your constitution says no cruel or inhumane punishment but define that....
-
Look, this is silly. The vast vast majority of guns sold today are for transactions where there is a background check. There's some silly statistic out there claiming otherwise based on a 21 year old survey of 251 people. Most people buy from retailers that are licensed and do checks, Walmart, Cabelas, Sportsmans warehouse and various gun and pawn shops all of which have FFLs and do checks. Some very small amount happens at gun shows from private sellers or between friends and relatives or on Craigslist or backpage. It ain't a lot, though.

Having served on a murder trial I can offer this insight.
We were told that the death penalty could not be given in that trial as State determined "special circumstances" were not met.
After the individual was convicted of murder we were interviewed by both the defense and the prosecution. I asked again about why we were not allowed to impose the just penalty of death and was again told that the much vaunted "special circumstances" were not met in this case.
I then asked if the victim's life was not special.
Case closed.

Not really case closed; first off I know there are fucked up execution laws (if you rat on another conspirator in a murder you can't be executed I think...), secondly, what does how "special" the victim was have to do with the sentence?
If a homeless man with no family and a bad past was tortured and murdered is that worse than a young guy killed when someone was robbing a shop?
I know we all (really) lean to saying the second guy is more special but then we are not administering justice.
-
I should probably add that I am conflicted on the death penalty.
In some cases I wish we had it here. You know, sicko murderers who have no hope of rehabilitation or committed crimes without forgiveness. That said, state sanctioned murder has to be acknowledged if you call it the death penalty.

I've never bought a gun without a background check

Where are you getting this information? Are you familiar with armslist? There are a shit ton of firearms sold everyday without a background check. If I decide tomorrow that I want a new gun, I can purchase one in a walmart parking lot by 10am.

I've never bought a gun without a background check
I've bought 19 in the last 6 months without a background check. :-\

Not saying you can't easily get without a background check, but most people just go to the store and the store is licensed. I said Craigslist backpage, arms list is another one, whatever. Yes, some people kill their own chickens, most just go to the store. I'm not for a database of all gun owners either, but the data that there is some huge non retail gun trade that in any way compares to the sales by all the FFLs is lacking.

America doesn't need gun control, we need MUSLIM deportation!
-
America needs to stop focusing on homos and illegal mexican, and focus on the real problem the Religion of Islam
-
Homo hatred war, Border patrol, #blacklivesmatter, it made it easy for muslims to sneak in here undetected

What are you talking about? To LEGALLY buy a firearm you have to pass a background check. But if you buy it illegally, say, in a Walmart parking lot, then you are correct, the black market seller will not require a back ground check.
Have you ever tried to legally purchase a firearm. Not that easy.
And let me ask you this: What do you think will happen if the US bans all private ownership of firearms?

Lol oh boy, another "your president, not mine" reference.
Coach is anti american. He said that to people who said bush wasnt their president.
Coach the most hypocritical loyalist ever lol

Buy all the guns and ammo you can NOW while it's still legal to do so. These government fucks are going to get their way sooner or later.

Yep this kind of shit has me in the market for an AR and a new glock. One day these clowns will get their way.
-
Forget banning guns, lets just pass a law banning murder. Since insane homicidal criminals obey laws then they will have no choice but to stop murdering people.
Problem solved, you're welcome America.

What? No, pellius, I think you are not understanding properly what he is saying or are misinformed. You do not need to pass a background check to buy a gun. I can sell you my gun and you can buy it from me with no background check. If you go to a store you need to fill out the form and have an instant background check done (some state require more). If people are in the business of selling guns then they need to be licensed and get background checks done when they make sales. But private party sales require no checks and no form.

You clearly have no idea what you're talking about, and are spreading more misinformation.
To LEGALLY buy a firearm you have to pass a background check.
This is completely false. There are more states that do not require a background check for private sales of firearms than states that do.
But if you buy it illegally, say, in a Walmart parking lot, then you are correct, the black market seller will not require a back ground check.
I buy firearms from individuals in parking lots all the time, and it's 100% LEGAL. There are many websites like craigslist, but for firearms. I find something I like, contact the seller, meet in a parking lot, and we make a deal. No paper work, no background check required. I give them cash, they give me the firearm.
Have you ever tried to legally purchase a firearm. Not that easy.
Yes, all the time. I legally purchase firearms in parking lots, I legally purchase firearms in stores, I legally have firearms shipped to my doorstep. It is VERY easy. I've purchased 31 firearms this year, all legally, using the methods I listed above.
And let me ask you this: What do you think will happen if the US bans all private ownership of firearms?
Probably many things will happen. Firearms will be turned in, firearms will be hidden, firearms will be traded illegally, possible state successions, possible civil war, definite economic hit, etc.

There are so many problems in America and this ain't one of them.

To answer the original post, money buys votes.
Politicians make decisions based upon who gives them the most cash, so they can advertise more and increase their chances of winning at the next election. As well as line their own pockets. It's all that matters.
Unfortunately in say, World Cup Soccer nominations, people seem to think these are different and want to crucify the heads of these or cry foul when their country doesn't offer enough money to the decision makers.
Laws aren't made based upon what's sensible or moral. It's about who's got the most cash. Marijuana possession used to result in jail time. Now it's all legal. What the fuck changed? Money to be made.

Excellent insight, but I think it is more about power than about money.

No, murder is the killing of an innocent person. There is no moral equivalence to putting a person to death for murdering someone.

Legally? How?

There are so many problems in America and this ain't one of them.
Correct. On a grand scale, there are lots of things that plague American society more than gun violence. Specifically, child abuse/neglect/maltreatment is the number one social issue plaguing our society, yet you rarely ever hear politicians talking about this. As we speak, there are probably MILLIONS of children being horrifically abused--politicians remain silent. This is even more ironic, considering that child abuse is a GLOBAL problem, not just an American problem. This should motivate politicians even more! Instead, they are too concerned with trying to take our guns away because they care more about their political agenda, than child abuse.

No, not legally. I worked for years at a gun store.
Sure, you can sell me your gun. You can give me your gun. I can steal your gun. But without the proper paperwork it's illegal and if I do something illegal with that gun it's going to be traced back to you unless you also obtained that gun illegally.
Only those with an FFL can legally sell guns.
-
Fact is, the human species is right fucked, and the quicker its extinction, the better.
It pains me to say this, of course. Humans are capable of unbelievable accomplishment and good. Unfortunately, we cannot seem to extinguish our ugly side, as well. And our mental instability, best shown through our limitless sky-god delusions, makes us the ideal candidates for absolute demise.

Actually, I have to amend this post. The laws regarding private ownership does vary by State. In California and Hawaii, the States I'm familiar with and have bought and sold guns, you have to be licensed. Not so in all States. But if a crime is committed with a gun that you privately sold, given or lend it's going to come back to you.
It is a loophole that needs to be fixed. But again, gun laws don't apply to criminals as they operate outside of the law. So passing more gun laws or banning guns will not solve the problems of gun violence.

In a parking lot. 100% legal. I pay cash, and they give me the firearm. Many states do not require background checks for private sales.
