I will admit, when I used to see older guys in the gym just wearing a weight belt, I thought they were stupid. But, as I am now in my mid thirties and have had back problems for a while now, I find myself wearing a belt while doing any "pulling" exercise. I use it on back day and bicep day. I feel it gives me better stability and helps hold everything together and keep from getting tweaked. I have my home gym now so not looking like a tool is not a concern of mine and I decided to give it a run. It seems to be working. Does anybody else use one on day's other than squat day?

Belt. Buy belt. Wear belt.

No belt. Ever.

This goes for squats, DLs, overhead press..anything.

Get yourself a nice Inzer belt and pull til your eyes pop.

x3 I guess we are geezers. :-\
-
Geezer here. I wear one when I squat.
-
First 5 years training, yes. The last 26 years?... no.
-
I don't think I have a normal lower back. I never felt a single thing from wearing a belt.
-
These old geezers wore belts too when they worked out.
-
If you never wear one, there's a 95% chance you're a pussy not pulling heavy weight and hogging the smith machine in the corner, you selfish bastards. To the 5%ers out there, I wish I had your core strength.
-

Pretty much the same here. I've always had decent core strength.
-
Deadlifts. Last set. Sometimes.
-
I prefer suspenders to a belt because I'm all fashion.
-
Perfectly acceptable as long as it bears standard meathead lingo.

I did briefly when I was young. At 71, I never use a belt. I use good judgement and good form instead. My back says thank you.
I don't use gloves either.
-
Never wear one, feels more comfortable without
-
When squatting and deadlifting heavy, yes, otherwise, no need...
-
No belt no straps.

Nasser and Lee show you may not have to limit yourself to either or...

I found one not necessary there either.....ditched the belt a decade ago.
Took about a month to get used to it and that was that.

I didn't wear one for over a decade, but recently have been dipping my toes back in squats and it helps me to remember to brace my abdominal wall (oh brother).
-
Only on heavy lifts.
-
Old geezer (not wes-class though) wearing belt here.
-
Heavier squats and deadlifts.

No.

if you have back problems and you feel it helps you then wear it and who cares what others think. Injury makes you re think some things.

When I saw top Olympic lifters not using a belt to clean and jerk 500lbs I thought why do I need it to deadlift that?
-
Only on heavy lifts.
same here.

Absolutely. Never did heavy deadlifts though.

I'm older but after decades of trying to do full BB squats with a belt I stopped:
1. Had chronic low back pain 2. Made some strength gains , but legs didn't improve much from 'em.
Made better gains from hacks, and heavy DB 1 leg step ups.
Hope this helps.

Yes a schiek fabric belt and never had an injury.

Step ups I like too. One leg squats standing on a bench holding a db are hard too and save your back.

Chic, Giorgio. Ciao, bello.
-
No. If it hurts back, lower back, I'm doing it wrong/too heavy or shouldn't be doing it.

Lots of beast mode studs lifting light weights in this thread.

More of a corset man, myself.

Agreed
Ive alwasys been taught to only where you belt, tightened where you cant keep it on for more than a few min, during working sets.
I see way too many guys wearing a belt, walk up, do a set, and walk away; never tighteneing or looseneing it. Whats the purpose there? Seems like improper usage.
-
Years ago. Probably ego lifting. Now, control/ good form. Probably that core shit, as well.
/have a lever belt gathering dust in my closet. if you would like it - send me a pm. and pay shipping.

Let's compare best lifts stud. Although I did wear a belt in competition and very heavy training.

How much do you think it added? Srs question

Honestly I felt it just stabilized my back and held me in better form. Stepping back squatting with anything over 600 always made me feel as though my 198lb body was going to explode.
