That is very impressive indeed.  Does the guy get paid to do this in any way or is he a pro athlete?  If not then it seems pointless.  While impressive, it seems like a good way to wreck your body in the long term.

He's an (Olympic)Weightlifter from Ireland. He hasn't competed in over a year and while he has always been very strong, his squat, snatch, and C&J numbers have skyrocketed over the course of this competition hiatus.
He's like the Dorian Yated of weightlifting, because he has no social media presence for months at a time, then he'll post a video out of nowhere hitting personal record breaking lifts...then goes radio silent again. 8)

Impressive lifting - those squats with the pauses at the bottom - man, I could feel my back going just watching that.

330kg/728lbs Deadlift. No straps, no belt, and a disadvantage from deadlifting with lifters on... :P

650 for a triple on the bench by Glen Chabot in my gym.....circa 2001

Ted Arcidi doing skullcrushers with 3 plastes a side in imecable form.

A 715 squat where the squatter almost got killed but did the lift anyway.

650 pound deadlifts on many occasions and these are all local guys not even taking the power meets that I`ve competed in way back when with Sandow and those cats!  ;)

Used the hook grip which is what most Olympic lifters use when doing deadlifts. Koklyaev does the same below:

Only if you subscribe to the notion that bloofy useless tear your hamstring from one sprint bodybuliding muscles are what constitutes "strong looking".

When asked why he doesn't like to compete, he responded with:

So many reasons, but the main reasons are: 1: I'm not a fan of competitive sports in general because drug testing isn't equal all across the world. 2: It takes a lot of time off training. 3: The new rules for competing in international competitions for Ireland make it harder. 4: I simply just don't like competing. I will compete internationally in the future, but right now I'm really just focusing on training.

Seems like he's not convinced he'd beat the drug testing.

Drug testing has ruined Olympic weightlifting and stagnated it. Remember Saeid Alihosseini? The Iranian kid who probably would have gone on to break all records but was banned for life before his 22nd birthday. It fucked up Pat Mendes' promising career too.

Yup. I just read that he is banned until 2021 from competing-he will be 33 at that time.

I just discovered that Aleksey Lovchev broke the world record in the C&J (264kg) and total (475kg) last month, beating the previous record set by Rezazadeh (although the C&J is 2kg below what Taranenko did under the old records). I can't remember reading about this on getbig. Looks like it flew under the radar.

Strongest man on the planet? :o :o :o

Agreed. The US tries to play the high and mighty role, but you can't be high and mighty when your best lifters are hitting numbers 15-30kilos below international competitors.
Russia, Ukraine, Iran, etc... they will catch wind of doping officials arriving at an airport, and have them "detained" for enough time to get their mid-cycle lifters out of town.

Why the pause on bottom of squat? I know a lot of O lifters pause on C & J at bottom of front squat (in lift) but that is front squat. The pause was most impressive part. Deadlift I could do til I suddenly saw it rise by 100kg.

Pausing with +250kg where you could leave a shit stain on gym floor in squat and narrow hand grip is fairly sick. Knee cartilage of peace.

Wes, Did you lift at Peps Gym when Ted was there? We were talking about that place the other night (I was at his annual Xmas party).
If it was Peps, did you know Powerlifter John Maguire? I met up with him fairly recently to buy a Powertech Leverage Squat machine off of him, he was telling some interesting Peps stories...
Sounds like it was a great gym of the past.

No I never trained there.

Arcidi was in town during his wrestling career, and he stopped by our gym with all the other wrestlers to get in a training session.

All except Arcidi were dwarfed by regulars Jeff King,Artie Prince,Rich Roy,Chris Aceto,Matt Dufresne and a host of other local animals.

Big Daddys gym in Springfield Mass.

Arcidi sent a young kid to the store to get him a shake and a sub.................told the kid to keep the change from a $100.00 dollar bill.

Shit,I would have flew up there and got the sub for him myself if I knew he was that generous.  LOL  ;D

Ted's so generous still, and down to earth to this day, its almost to a fault.
The guy is unbelievable...
