Anybody ever got a really great deal on a floor model of something? What was your experience: good, bad? Was considering a 65 inch tv from costco for $189(!) but decided against it.
-
Lol for $189 and you decided against it?
Floor models carry the full manufacturer warranty. Worse case buy a new one and take back the floor model.

We have two tvs in that approximate size range, don't really need a third and it wasn't necessarily better than the ones we have. The price made it tempting as maybe a Christmas present.

Floor models are turned on first thing in the morning and run all day and night. Don't touch a floor model.

X2 Floor models run all day long. In about 2 months they have a years worth of run time on them. I would not buy one.

Im big into tvs,i always buy samsung led and just recently got a couple 4ks and they are awesome.Ive never bought a floor model just cause they are on 12 hours aday 7 days a week.but 189 that would be worth it if it lasted a couple months.my buddy always buys floor models and he has good luck with them.

Got a floor model tv stand. all the scratches were where the tv sits so it was no brainer.

This is less of an issue than you would think…In Radio and TV stations, the equipment is never powered down…only placed into stand-by…

Depends on the product... a TV? No. But a floor model fridge, washer, dryer, dishwasher? Absolutely. Especially if it is going into a vacation home or rental property. Always buy with your credit card that doubles the manufacture's warranty.

How often are people buying tv's?
I expect a tv to last years... if I replaced it every 2 years then I guess a floor model is fine.

A grill from sears, and the best part is I didn't have to put it together.

As long as it isn't a Vizio. We had a 48" Vizio for about three years until last week then everything went black and white with horizontal lines. Called for repair and was told it couldn't be repaired. Went online too look it up and sure enough. Vizio said it would have to be replaced...at my cost of the full amount. DON'T GET A VIZIO.

Or..get a Vizio
Bought 2 Vizio's back in 2007. One of them finally died a month ago which allowed me to get an updated model. The other is still going strong so the moral of the story is, don't make a buying decision based on one persons experience.

I love putting stuff together! I mentioned in another thread how I'm on this home improvement kick lately, so we've been planning changing the bathroom sink from a pedestal sink to a modern floating vanity. Our apartment is a rental and the vanity we both liked is $1300. So, I'm going to hack a piece from ikea with a kohler sink. It will come out to about $450. The stuff is supposed to arrive on the 23rd and it's going to be my project for Christmas Eve. ;D

Ditto. Nothing like looking at a finished product and knowing that you did it yourself!

^^
You should have bought it on the condition that they offered you an EXTENDED warranty!!!
P.S. I've had so many appliances, cars, etc... benefit from that!

Purchased a sony led aquos - had it for a few years now in my guest bedroom, great tv.
Purchased an entertainment center for my living room, had a little scratch on it saved thousands looks awesome. Both the "dreaded floor models". ::)

Doesn't sharp make aquos?
-
Bought a washer and dryer...high end from Nebraska Furniture mart. Got them very cheap, never an issue. No dents or issues on the bodies. I think a TV would be different.

When your TV (or any electronic gizmo) act up in any way...the first thing to try is what is called a "power cycle".
You don't just "turn the switch off" you go to the power cord and remove it from the electric outlet from the wall. (if there is a battery backup take that out too) This is important...remove all electricity from the device...Count to twenty, then plug it back in...
It's not a guarantee, but you would be surprised how often it works.
-
Have tvs really gotten this cheap???
Yep, if you don't need 4K and curved. Which both are pretty much not needed right now.
-
189 for a 65 inch!! you better take that and give the sales man a handy on the way out :D
