My favourite front man since the 70's with Hawkwind and Motorhead. A sad day indeed.

Motorhead frontman Lemmy has died aged 70 after battling against cancer, the British rock band has announced.

Lemmy was the only constant member of the group, which was formed in 1975, and one of the most recognisable figures in the business.

He was born Ian Fraser Kilmister in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, in 1945.

The band said on its Facebook page: "Our mighty, noble friend Lemmy passed away after a short battle with an extremely aggressive cancer."

It added: "We cannot begin to express our shock and sadness, there aren't words."

The rock star, who lived in Los Angeles, was diagnosed with cancer on 26 December - two days after his birthday.
