Shawn Ray was a great pro and came in ripped and ready.
Problem is he gave up over 50 lbs of muscle and then thinks size is irrelevant.
I've seen many of the smaller stature pros from earlier eras refuse to accept wt classes in the pros.
Then, when much bigger pros beat them at the Olympia, they complain about the judging.
The 212 division is one change that made a lot of sense in IFBB pro contests.
MMA, boxing, etc all have wt classes.
You don't see a 260 lb guy fighting a Lt wt. for the belt.

On his Final Countdown he did reps of barbell rows with more.
150 (Final Countdown)-180 (The vid before Final Countdown) pound dumbbell presses. Not bad.

Many of the 212 guys outside of Flex Lewis, David Henry and Al Auguste, Cory Mathews couldn't do well in the open, and they know it.

Also to note, Chris Aceto could never get his wife Laura Creavalle conditioned enough to beat Lenda Murray. Nor could he get her to change her name.

It really is the dumbest title in a while LIke....
Either way, Shawn looked INCREDIBLE competed and did super well in a very tough era competitive wise.
But hearing his voice just wrecks me wanting to be a fan of him in some ways.

Damn. That's almost as sad as Yates thinking he is better then Ronnie.

yates was off but not enough for ray beat him, if lever one ever got as hard as he did in 93 with the added size he could have made an argument but he never got that crisp again especially through his rear legs where yates was carved out of stone. Ray just didn't look like Mr Olympia in the relaxed rounds, he was pretty good when flexing but got lost in the line up when relaxed. Great bodybuilder but never deserved to win.

1994 - Shawn looks better in pics but still way too small
1996 - Kidding? He barely beat Nasser, Dorian was in condition and far bigger
1997 - 3rd, he didn't even beat Nasser
He says Flex could have beat Ronnie in 1999 LOL, Cormier should have beat Flex in 1999. Ronnie was on another level by then. Come on.

I`d much rather have Shawns physique than Dorians.
That being said,I think he`s one of the all time best as far as always being in top shape for a contest,perfect posing,and damn near flawless build..........fuck his height and weight,he looked incredible.
