Title: Thinking Man's Bodybuilders
Post by: BBSSchlemiel on January 01, 2016, 06:12:53 AM
Alright, we went over what makes a blue collar bodybuilder. Now can we establish what makes a thinking-man's bodybuilder? Who qualifies?

Yes, these are examples. But what MAKES a thinking-man's bodybuilder?

How come Phil or Jay are not thinking bodybuilders, or even Arnold?

Being a thinking man is great, but I think it's better to forget.

Vince Basile.

You know, before I went to university I knew I could be a doctor, architect, lawyer, engineer or anything I desired. What did I end up studying? Philosophy! Everyone is an expert in philosophy! I had one fool tell me that he had a philosophy, too. "What is your philosophy, Armando?" "Well, he said, when I eat, I eat and when I sleep, I sleep!" Brilliant for sure, because who can refute that? The trouble is that philosophy is completely empty and useless.

Well, it's one thing to think and another to act on said thoughts.  It's like change.  If for the better, then it makes sense. Some thoughts are best left in the dustbin.  Mentzer was a smart man that didn't think out his career very well after his loss to Arnold in '80.

You don't show others the way by running away.

Never got the Mike Mentzer thing. He was always talking about how smart he was. Does dropping out of undergraduate pre med after a year or two qualify as proof he could have been a doctor?

Don't get me wrong. I think I have the definitive collection of Mike Mentzer's writings.  His writings still influence me today.

Yup.  I wouldn't call him a prime example of idiot-savant but one need not be a genius to either compose or see the logic behind his reasoning as regards bodybuilding.  You just need to be able to think rationally about training.

Coleman on the other hand is just prime idiot-idiot or better still fook-tard.

Yates always came across as putting logical thought into everything he did...

Nasser was fluent in several languages and graduated as an electrical engineer

Arnold was the smartest of them all....

Joe Weider. He "thought" he could be a great bodybuilder. He found out that he was better at making money, so he created an empire off of bodybuilding and bodybuilders.

Thinking about what exactly?  ???

I would hazard that anything other than just training, eating, pooping, taking drugs and selling oneself to schmoes.    Stuff like...Music, books, theatre and film.  Travel, cars, women, marriage, family.

Life. Real life instead of the imitation most seem to have.
