two great fights at the top of the card

Lawler/Condit should be epic, but I fear it may be a let down with one guy choosing to play it safe.

I think conduit will tag and run
but robbie will catch up with him

I have that feeling too, if they make it that far.
-
I'll take Lawler..
Duffy is also another to look out, I hope Arlovski wins but Stipe may take this

Weird
-
Lawler will slowly break him down and break his will as carlos plays the same way he did against Diaz using distance and fighting in spurts getting in and out, I do think Robbie is still suspect to head kicks especially as he keeps coming forward later in the fight, but outside of that threat I see robbie slowly beating him up with his power shots, if he takes him down and gets in his ground and pound Carlos will be gone a lot quicker than McDonald, carlos might love to fight but Lawler is an animal from that position, scary what he can do with a few punches.
Stipe to outwork and use superior cardio to beat Arlovski, most likely stoppage in round 2 or 3

Post your links here gentlemen!

I used it afew times but very few others do. Why not have the big fight polls on this board?
Anyway I got lawler, arlovski, tumenov, brandao and trujillo on the main card. Ortega v brandao will be a great fight

Excited for the arlovski foght, duffinator and lloler

Shit, just started a thread to see what getbiggers thought. I really don't want to pick a fighter in the main card, I really like both fighters and really don't want to see either lose. If I was honest I would like to see Condit win but think Lawler is the tougher more durable guy. Hopefully it is going to be a barnburner of a fight, but sometimes these fights fizzle and bomb.
Same with the heavyweights, pretty even fight, I am going to go with Miocic.

Going with Lawler by knockout, round 1, 2 minutes in.

Condit didn't look himself at weigh in. And weighed in 1lb under which I found strange as he's a big ww

I am still unsure how his leg is after his ACL injury. Pretty serious injury that derails and ends careers. Robbie lawler probably isn't the guy you want testing that leg shortly after recovering from it. (this is only Condit's second fight since recovering from the injury)

Robbie isn't a leg kicker as such but his pressure style will have condit on his toes the whole fight, he dominated alves in his last fight though and alves is a muay thai fighter and his leg stood up
-
Cage fighting tonight. I'll take Basile in the 2nd round via choke.

McDonald winning a fight spectacularly after being dominated for the whole fight. His only strike in the fight was a few seconds in, good ground skill to win

Dude, he absolutely raped Thiago Alves in his last fight. A guy that is both bigger and stronger than him.

Thiago is about 5'7, condit is 6'1

Bigger physique/strength wise. Condit is a stick figure in comparison.

Not entirely, but they are both fall into the brawler category. Robbie is just at the top.
Did you see what Greg Jackson's camp did for Overeem against Dos Santos?
A great fighter, coupled with a great gameplan, is hard to beat.

Robbie Lawler is a robot, you can't hurt him (in the last 4years anyway)
This Ortega guy looks good too
-
such lame entrance music. Darude Sandstorm ??? 1999 called..
-
Before fight:
Ortega is all excited and confident looking
Brandao has a nervous fury look about him, in a rush to get it done
We will see if this transfers into the fight

Bullshit. Rory Macdonald beat the piss out of Lawler, in one of the greatest fights I have ever seen. Robby was on the verge of being stopped several times during that fight. But that is why I give Lawler the ultimate credit. He is a champion, a brawler, and has the heart that separates him from most fighters.
He has definitely earned his belt.

Ortega giving Brandao extra motivation to punch him in the head with that hairstyle. ;D

Ortega looks better here imo think he will take it

Exactly, he didn't get finished did he? And no way Condit, and I am a longterm fan of him too, will damage him like Rory did

Don't forget Condit finished Rory by TKO. The dude knows how to finish.

Physical damage? Probably not, but Condit almost beat the best Welterweight (GSP) in the history of MMA, with a head kick that St. Pierre barely survived.
One thing is for certain: Condit will not be scared of Lawler.
-
Don't forget Condit finished Rory by TKO. The dude knows how to finish.
Baby rory 1.0, totally different to rory 2.0 who fought lawler.
I have lawler tko anyway, I may be wrong, Hurrah for the lads

I think Robbie will win also, but my heart is rooting for Condit.

great movement and footwork on Ortega

that was impressive

Yes, but his hairstyle is unfortunate and an embarrassment.
-
What's with these moronic hairstyles. Looks like he just had a session of chemotherapy.

Let's see how Arlovski handles a striking tactician in Miocic. Arlovski will be in trouble the longer this fight lasts.
I want Arlovski to win. Miocic is boring.

That's heavyweights for you. Doesn't take much.
-
I just said that Miocic had the striking advantage. There is a difference between an elite level striker (Stipe Miocic) and guys like Travis Browne and Frank Mir.
I wanted Arlovski to win, because he is a bigger name, and he could sell a better fight. Stipe is obviously the better fighter at this point.
I figured that Stipe would slowly pick Andrei apart, instead, he just dismantled him easily. He clearly deserves the next title shot.
-
Sssssh shaun you're drunk
-
The Condit/Lawler fight is very similar. The longer this fight lasts, the more likely Lawler will lose.
Condit will be perfectly happy to win by decision. Lawler has to dictate the pace of this fight.
-
Think Lawler is getting hurt with leg kicks
-
Condit on his way to a decision right now.
-
AFter end of rd 3 Condit's work rate is phenomenal. I have him winning 2-1 so far. He is definitely dictating pace and fighting his fight.
-
Is Lawler there to fight or be a punching bag?
-
Lawler needs a ko, or a very dominant round, to win a decision.
-
Is Lawler there to fight or be a punching bag?
HA HA. Condit has made him look lethargic. Both men are dangerous under pressure so Robbie hasn't been able to overwhelm and intimidate the way he sometimes can.
-
he cant handle that volume.
who knows though could suprise.. has alot of KO power
-
Fight the last few seconds...smart strategy. ::)
-
No way Lawler won that fight.
-
Should make those fuckers go another round.
-
What a fucking fight. I can't believe Lawler had that reserve in his gas tank. That man is a beast, you can just tell he wanted to keep fighting after the bell, there is no quit in that man. I hope they give the decision to Condit though, but sometimes judges favor the champ,
-
I told you, talk about robbed. Feel bad for Condit.
-
well.. gotta knock out the champ
that how it is usually
-
Rematch, immediately.
-
What a shit decision. I guess volume of strikes means absolutely nothing, when you throw a few wild, desperate haymakers in the 5th ::)
-

You'd know about drunk haymakers.
-
I love Condit, all class. No Homo
-
How on earth does Lawler win 3 rounds in that fight when he only threw a few punches in the second and did nothing else until the 5th? Dana has his favorites and Lawler is his top dog in this division since Dana hates GSP, can't stand Hendricks boring ass wrestling, and Condit is fighting out his contract. Total BS.

Condit won three rounds clearly bad decision.
-

Def class act and clearly won three rounds,
-
:o
CONDIT LANDED MORE STRIKES THAN ROBBIE THREW WTF !!!!!!
-
By points alone, I had Condit up 3 rounds to Lawler's 2.
But then, Lawler came alive in the 5th round and delivered the most damage, while displaying the most control and aggression.
Like Maxx said, sometimes the only way to take it is when you knock the champ out.

I think it's a few factors. The judges will always give more consideration to the champ in a decision, although I thought the enormous discrepancy in strikes (favoring Condit) would nullify the champ's bias.
You also have to take into account the fighter's popularity. Lawler will always be the more popular fighter (most exciting) and the biggest draw between the two. At the end of the day, the UFC is a business. They want the biggest draws, and the most exciting champions.

Don't be a fucking retard with this 5th round BS. There are only 5 rounds. None of the judges scored the 5th round 10-8. So two of the judges gave Lawler a CLEAR Condit round. The announcers, Lawler's corner and everyone else had Lawler down 3-1. There was no other way to see it. How on earth did all three judges have MacDonald up 3-1 headed into the 5th round last time out and all three judges had this one 2-2. Fucking moron.

sherdog forums just crashed :o

Yes, but Lawler is the bigger draw. Lawler is also a punch-drunk zombie with knock out power.
Condit is a great tactician, but casual mma fans can find him boring at times.

Relax. I had Condit taking rounds 1, 3 & 4. Lawler clearly ran with round 2 after landing that solid strike that put Condit on his ass. Sometimes, the 5th round needs to be definitively won by the challenger (regardless of his possible lead in the judges' scorecard) in order to get the decision.

I have no clue to be honest.
I didn't see Robbie taking anything past Rounds 2 (barely and only by a technicality) and 5 (more likely).
Maybe the judges might have seen something during round 4, but it's hard to tell. I was just as stomped as everyone else.

Round 4, Condit landed 7 times the amount of strikes Lawler did in that round. Lawler only landed 6 strikes compared to Condit's 42.
-
Never let a fight go to a decision. Lame cliché, but absolutely correct.
Countless fighters have been screwed via terrible decisions.
It's almost as if the reigning champ goes into the fight with a 1 round lead.

Like I said, hard to call. Truly, I couldn't have seen Robbie taking it by points based off of effective strikes landed, but lets remember that when it comes to judging these fights, they look at other things.
Judges shall evaluate mixed martial arts techniques, such as effective striking, effective grappling, control of the ring/fighting area, effective aggressiveness and defense.
Evaluations shall be made in the order in which the techniques appear in (c) above, giving the most weight in scoring to effective striking, effective grappling, control of the fighting area and effective aggressiveness and defense.
Effective striking is judged by determining the total number of legal strikes landed by a contestant.
Effective grappling is judged by considering the amount of successful executions of a legal takedown and reversals. Examples of factors to consider are take downs from standing position to mount position, passing the guard to mount position, and bottom position fighters using an active threatening guard.
Fighting area control is judged by determining who is dictating the pace, location and position of the bout. Examples of factors to consider are countering a grappler's attempt at takedown by remaining standing and legally striking, taking down an opponent to force a ground fight, creating threatening submission attempts, passing the guard to achieve mount, and creating striking opportunities.
Effective aggressiveness means moving forward and landing a legal strike.
Effective defense means avoiding being struck, taken down or reversed while countering with offensive attacks.
Maybe they weighed certain aspects heavier than others. I remember faintly that Lawler seemed to control where the fight was going.
Again, I'd love to see what the judges' scorecards look like.

I disagree, Robbie has a tendency to try and bully and looks for opportunities where he tries to overwhelm his opponent, usually after stunning an opponent with a power shot. He couldn't really do this with Condit because Condit has a habit of staying in the pocket and fighting back, he matches intensity for intensity. Making him dangerous under fire, and Robbie sensed this and pulled back any time they got into a moderate exchange. The 1st was a good example, Robbie tried to bully and impose his will straight away, making sure to control the centre, this didn't last long as Condit dropped him soon after and then for the rest of the round Condit dictated the pace while Robbie backpedaled. I believe Condit fought his fight gameplan and Robbie didn't fight his, he was stifled and only had a few brief glimpses of dominance and control. Condit was able to weather any storm Robbie threw at him and still continue his phenomenal workrate until the very end. This was a blatant robbery and makes you question the integrity of the UFC.

Will have to watch again later. I actually picked Robbie to win but was rooting for Condit, so sometimes my bias affects my objective analysis.
-
It was an excellent fight, as most of Lawlers fights are. I wanted Lawler to win but scored it 3-2 for Condit. Round 3 was the swing round. Condit was more active, obviously. But Lawler probably
landed the harder blows. I probably would have scored it for Condit, but it is far from highway robbery that Lawler won.
-
Win or lose.....lawler always brings it! Cant wait to see him fight woodley
-
I predicted both the main fights of course
Main card (PPV at 10 p.m. ET)
Robbie Lawler vs. Carlos Condit - decision
Stipe Miocic vs. Andrei Arlovski - ko round 1
8)
-
Damaging shots might come into play as well. Condit at the end was beat up looking, Lawler was unmarked. Either way, a great fight...
-

Serious. Both looked pretty banged up. This is from the Post Fight Press Conference.
-
Stipe deserves, and gets a title shot. Dana said in press conference and in person told him he gets winner of Velasquez and Werdum. Miocic isn't flashy but with power like that, he sure isn't boring. Yes, I'm biased for a close friend, but he deserves the title shot.
I had it for Condit 3-2 but it was close. Great fights.
