Anyone ever been to Barbados? Planning a trip there....looking for advices.
-
Bring lots of money ..... Expensive island.
-
IF you're going to go, eat like shown here from trucks you'll be able to AFFORD your trip then...
I've talked to Air Canada flight attendants about going there, this was THEIR answer!

Try not to get ass-raped to death while you're there.
Hope this helps.

Cool thanks. Already booked my flight which was pretty reasonable. Planning on renting a place through Airbnb so I'll have a kitchen and be able to get my own food at the supermarket. From what I have seen so far prices are not that bad.

^^
Cook your own BREAKFASTS (everyone just eats eggs, etc... then anyways) when there, but believe me the main thing the Flight Attendants (and their in their late 40's early 50's they've traveled everywhere) the lunches/dinners these food trucks
make are a REAL, LEGIT taste of the Barbados and cost WAY LESS than the same foods cooked in a sit-down place which just puts it on a fancy plate...

Barbados is beautiful. I didn't notice it being more expensive than the rest of the Caribbean.
...because it is so close to the equator, daylight and tides don't vary much throughout the year.
A great place to relax, very few Americans.

I went in October 2009, so a little while ago. Stayed in a place called the Almond Beach Resort in Speightstown which is halfway up the western coast.
Food was really nice, people very friendly/relaxed, and felt safe the whole time I was there - travelled on all the local buses instead of using the more expesive tourist ones, no problems. Weather is practically the same 365 days a year with the occasional heavy downpour. It's too far east of the hurricane belt as well so they don't get any of those. Not strong ones anyway.
Beaches were fairly small but they are all public so anyone can go on them - tourists mingle with locals. The capital Bridgetown has quite a lot of British shops and nothing is any more expensive there than it is anywhere else. Rum is cheap as dirt though.
Can't wear camouflage shorts or similar clothing in public though - anything which has military connotations is banned.
I've also been to Antigua and prefer Barbados by a long way. Thinking of going back again soon.

Went there on a cruise once but didn't see too much of the entire island.
I took a snorkeling excursion which claimed to be over a ship wreck.
I'm no dive wreckage expert , but to me, it looked like someone dumped old file cabinets and discarded bed springs LOL.
Albert Beckles, pro BB legend is from there and competed looking awesome as one of the oldest open pros ever.
I think they love the cricket and I drove by this huge cricket stadium.

Look for circa 2006 Rihanna

Actually just went there for Thanksgiving with another family. Stayed at the Crane Resort. If you stay on any resort grounds, very nice but once you start sightseeing it is very poverished, shanty's/shacks etc. In saying this everyone we encountered was super friendly.
Weather is beautiful and even though 80 at night, you just open the doors and windows and get the breeze of the ocean (if you stay on that side)
The $$ conversion rate is 2:1..... $2 barbados dollars to $1 US dollar. Food there is good. You can get a coke for $1.50 US but remember seeing a bag of Oreos for $8 US
TBH enjoyed my stay soo much I purchased a time share there...
The one pic was from my bedroom window.Other is from an underground cave we visited. If you have questions feel free to PM me...
