Shawn Ray had/has a legendary physique. Size, density, balance, great lines, great presentation.......NO GUT. It's truly an outrage that he doesn't have a Sandow. To me, he is the uncrowned Mr O.

Yes 2 Professional wins in 12 years ::) would have been 3 if he didn't fail the diuretics test , thats not great by any standards , Shawn Ray an excellent bodybuilding with a excellent phsyique and a great ability to market himself , one of the best ever not quite .

The Arnold, the O, the O, the O, the O again...........the O.........hold on a minute, looks like he entered nothing but the Olympia for about 10 years! ::) with the politics in the sport is it any wonder he never won more (1992 Olympia was a definite)
As for his personal life, regardless of what he gets up to i fail to see how it is any of our business? This board is about BBing and in that context there isnt a solitary bad word i can say about Shawn Ray. The man was the personification of symmetrical and aesthetical perfection for over a decade. What he does in his own time doesnt affect the fans in any way

It doesn't matter if he mostly entered the Mr Olympia , he shouldn't have placed all his eggs in one basket , always a bridesmaid and never a bride , he entered the smallers shows and did well , in 1990 he " won " the Arnold Classic and failed the diuretics test , and he also won the Iroman and in 1991 he won the Arnold Classic and that was it , in 1996 he entered the Arnold and placed 5th , the Ironman he placed 3rd , in 14 years as a Pro the best he could manage was 2 Professional wins? thats not great by any standard
Well you can say " he always came in shape " he supposed its his job , and you can also say " he was top 5 for the Mr Olympia in all the times he competed " again he was consistant and that should be applauded but great ? I don't think so , compare that to Lee Labrada who has 8 Professional wins in 10 years and NEVER placed below 4th in a Mr Olympia contest with two runner-up spots
In the 5 times Shawn & Lee competed in the same Mr Olympia , Lee beat Shawn 4 times out of 5 , couple that with 6 more wins now who is really great? Lee was much more of a Professional than Shawn , he never bitched about his placings , the only reason people go on about how great he is , is becuase he was great at marketing himself as great , with Labrada he was more low-key he didn't constantly brag about how good he was or how he was ripped-off or how the Mr Olympia was his destiny
Compare Ray to Flex who won more shows in his rookie-year then Shawn did in 14 years , Levrone won the same ammount of Pro shows Shawn did in his whole career in his rookie-year !! so all this talk about how great Shawn is , is in my opinion not waranted , excellent bodybuilder , excellent competitor , the title great is reserved for others far more deserving .

If the importance of a bodybuilder is only on the number of titles then Ronnie is the greatest of all time (he is but for other reasons), then Vince Taylor is greater than Arnold, Levrone better Yates and the list goes on. I disagree with this logic.

Levrone lost his legs and was given more gifts towards the latter part of his career than Santas favourite kid. Flex decided that he couldnt compete unless he filled himself with oil. Shawn has no health problems - probably due to the fact he only competed for the Olympia, no money problems and never had a weakness with his physique other than he was deemed too small by idiots. 1992 Olympia, Shawn got 4th and Lee Labrada got 3rd. Hell Shawn won that show. He was a great BBer and theres nothing that can anyone can say which will alter that. Who cares how many shows he won, how many he lost, his physique spoke for itself for 15 years

I never said the importance of a bodybuilder is soley based on the ammount of wins he has , the sole goal of ANY bodybuilder who turns Pro is to win the My Olympia that cements your name as the greatest of the great , another goal of any Pro is to win , NO ONE competes for second , now you can go on and on about how he should have won , but the fact is he didn't , and neither did Taylor , or Labrada , or Gaspari .
Shawn one of the top 15 bodybuilders ever? you can include the 10 Mr Olympias and I can think of 5 other guys who are above Shawn .

Many people believe otherwise and if you believe Milos Sarcev, the use of Synthol is NOT as prevalent as one would like to believe.
Hard to know whether it would be wise to believe Milos Sarcev for everything he says. People can cherry pick as it can't be possible that he lies about everything nor can it be possible that he is entirely truthful in every comment.

Regardless of whether you are the greatest uncrowned Mr. Olympia or top 20 in the history and all that, I have to wonder at what point in time did you first look at Wheeler and say " There's something not quite right about that guy!"
And then it took you several years before you actually said " um.. those calves ain't right!"
Why the calves?
Why not the trap area where it attaches over the shoulder blade. the " outer middle back/trap " area so to speak.
or the shoulders?
Or the Biceps?
So, when we are talking about the greatest champions, do we lump into that group for assessment, people who used Synthol to bring balance to their physique( or create a truly out of this world physique ) as well as those that chose not to use Synthol?
The other things (AAS) were equal across the board.
Did you smile when you heard him say " yeah, I fell on knitting needles. !!"
I realize that you two were once friends and perhaps have reconciled in your old age. But it begs the question.

Yep. I do with pro's.
They must comply with the strictest standards of condition all the way up to the age of 60 where they may degrade 5-10% per decade.
Otherwise I'm going tell everybody that "it was all steroids" and that they're losers for not spending their time in the gym and eating right.

Why wouldn't he? That is what he wants and what just about everyone who enters the shows wants. Applause and people responding to every whim.

He IS smiling now that it was asked however as it must have been gnawing at his insides to have Flex - or should I say Kenny - Wheeler lauded over ( here on these boards as well as in the magazines ) when Ray knew that one of the reasons for the accolades was the Synthol injections.
It would be interesting to know just what the other pros guys talked about when Wheelers' "new and improved" physique showed up. Sort of like Manfred Hoebbels' biceps - just so out there that it couldn't be believed.
When you add up all the money Wheeler won ( contests as well as seminars and posing exhibitions ) due to his Synthol enhanced physique, over other worthy competitors - it must be close to a couple hundred thousand. Kind of a kick in the nuts to the other guys when they saw the money flowing in the other direction.
At what point did someone take off their shoe and stamp it on the table saying, " Enough is enough".
And then Shawn Ray- the mouth- strode to the microphone.

I have given you a hard time in the past, but I admit you're a great champ. And also, I think you should have won the 96 O based sheerly on your astounding proportions, even though Dorian carried some 55 lbs more of muscle than you did. You are definitely a bodybuilder hall-of-famer...

The Yates was The Yiiiiiiikes! I was at two Olympias he competed at and...he ain't pretty. When you take into account his density and dryness, he even trounces Ronnie. As Lee Haney once said, during an interview to FLEX Magazine's profile interview, when he was asked to define Dorian, this is what he said:
