I keep a trimmed up set of mutton chops.
When it gets itchy I trim it down.
Can't grow it out long. As you said, gets itchy and sucks.

People are Sheep for the most part. They follow the herd. Whatever looks like it's becoming trendy, they jump aboard. Same thing happened in the 90's with Sideburns, when that Beverly Hills 90210 show came out, wih the main characters sporting sideburns. Almost instantaneously, every dude started growing side burns just like the characters on TV.
It was viral pic of a beard on a French Rugby star about two years ago that started the Beard bandwagon rolling.

This week I had all my wisdom teeth pulled along with a cyst from my jaw so I looked and have felt like shit since Thursday.
Now add that in with starting school last week as well and not shaving since Tuesday AM and by saturday I was shaving my swollen face and my head.
The point is I hate when I go more than a couple days of not shaving, feel scruffy.
I am like the opposite of Samson in that the less hair I have the stronger I feel

Either way, it's uncomfortable and itchy. Unless you have a baby face or are trying to disguise feminine features, than there isn't any reason for a man to have one.

That's actually fine. I'll go 2 or 3 days sometimes and never let it get longer than that. Like you said, it starts to itch and I feel dirty.
It's those bushy trendy beards that are fucking stupid. Its the new tattoo.

It isn't an achievement today. But, firstly you usually have to be older than 15 to grow it, so there is a sign of maturity and therefore status built in.
Also, yesteryear, when everyone was clean shaven, it took balls to go against the trend, it kind of was an achievement. Same applies today, but now it's being completely clean shaven that is against the grain.

Some people have weaker builds (beard wise) so up to two weeks look can still look sanitary on the right one.

I haven't been fully clean shaven in about seven years, but I'm usually just buzzed so I have some shadow going on. I can't grow it long because I get extremely dry, flaky skin when I have longer facial hair and its impossible to keep up with the shit getting caught in whiskers, and for some reason my cheeks never fill in so it just looks stupid IMO, like some Jewish strap beard thing

That's fair enough but why don't these guys just admit the truth -
"I have a beard to hide my wrinkles" or "I have a beard because I look like a baby faced homo without one".
Instead, bearded guys give us all this crap about how "real men have beards" just to justify their decision to look like an ape. Sure, men historically have had them, but that was purely because of a lack of decent shaving equipment in bygone era's.

I know a guy who has a Goatee Beard and while he has a face that suits it, it looks vile because he is quite grey now and a chain smoker. Looks like he has licked a shitty arse.. :-X
